Why is My Ebony Armor rated lower than my Dwarven?

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 11:10 am

My Dwarven armor is rated at 693 (+90 with shield). This was made using armor/helmet/ring/necklace each with 25% smithing.

Doing the exact same thing, my ebony armor comes to 635 (+85). What gives?

Or did you make the dwarven yourself. Any item you make yourself will turn out better then what you find.

Just reread your post, looks like you made both yourself. Are you sure you were wearing your smithing clothes. Do you have the ancient knowlege active effect?

Spoiler
There is an item that boosts the power of dwemer items by around 25%. It's possible you got that at some point.

Did you do the quest that From-Deepest-Fathoms gave you to go into a Dwemer ruin?

It increases the power of Dwarven Armor by a LOT.

Try saving your game, and craft a new set of dwarven armor.

ok, so i went to the work bench wearing all 4 smithing upgrades, and it shows the following

for dwarf:
armor - 288, boots - 129, gauntlets - 129, helmet - 147 = 693 (which is correct)

for ebony:
armor - 321, boots - 141, gauntlets - 141, helmet - 159 = 762 (what it should be)

instead it shows as ebony (when equipped) as 268-118-118-137

its weird, when i wear my dwarf armor, and i mouse over the ebony armor it shows the correct numbers, but when worn it shows the lower numbers........some weird glitch?

To see whether it is your dwarven armor that is bugged to have more armor.

i am equipping shield.......................ok now its getting weird........

i created a new set of dwarf armor, and while wearing the old dwarf armor, the rating went down to 621 (the one that was previously 693)

even weirder, is that if i add up all the ratings, it still adds up to 693, but the rating shows 621

lol and the saga continues...........i dropped all the armor, everything, equipped the original armor, and its back to 693................

it seems that the current armor is getting a boost (or new armor is not adding correctly)

i think its the latter, because when I make new armor, the higher rating shows, but when i wear it (as a set) a lower number appears

i've done this with both dwarf and ebony armor. it SHOWS the higher number, but the total does not add up

Do you have a sickness that is dropping armor rating?

No, new armors you create are not better than armor you buy or find. Only through the workbench can you improve armors, and only through the grindstone can you improve weapons. I just tested, a steel plate armor I added via command line console has the same armor rating as one I craft.

i believe it has to do with the perks on heavy armor

while wearing the higher rated dwarf armor, when i look at the ebony armor on the floor it shows 321. when i un equip any of the dwarf armor (thus not making it a set and not receiving the 2x25% bonus for matching heavy armor and all heavy armor), and i look at the ebony armor on the ground again, it shows as 214 (or a 50% loss)

Pretty sure he did the companion quests like most people do, even none warriors, but especially warriors.
And as such: Disease is not really a problem.

To me the whole "overall armor" value is pretty much broken.
I had some plated steel armor with quality "Superior". It showed 379 of overall armor rating.
I made exactely the same armor again with quality "Epic" and exactly the same enchantments after
I raised my level in smithing. While all individual values of the several pieces where higher, the
overall armor rating was still 379. Pretty weird.

Your armor skill adds in here too, there appears to be some cuts where you get or dont get bonuses.
My first daedric weapon created was a daedric mace. I then realized it had exactly the same damage as an Ebony mace.
I switched and made a sword. Now the Sword had actually +2 damage compared to the ebony sword.
Axes was also the same, even when upgraded.

However, when you start to have 75-80+ in the skill, the better armor type starts to shoot forward further, as the lower one have more or less peaked.

nope, no active disease...........although something weird i noticed

under magic (the left sector) and under active

it shows silver ring 25% 4 times. i can manipulate this to say silver necklace 4 times as well. this is because i'm using a silver ring, silver necklace, and helmet and armor, each with 25% smithing. something here is definitely glitched. under active effects it seems to show random stuff. either silver ring, or necklace, gloves, or armor
