I love the compass. Sure, I'm weird and pretend I have a Compass Of All Knowing, but that's okay. For me, it added exploration. I would see that there was a POI indicator on my compass, and then, I would something that no one seems to be able to do on the forums. Ignore it. I played Morrowind before I played Oblivion. People praise the game for it's excellent dialogue and direction. Telling me that there and Bandits in a cave east of Caldera is not helpful. WHICH CAVE?!?! http://www.uesp.net/maps/mwmap/mwmap.shtml?locx=-6685&locy=19466&zoom=17<(That%27s a Morrowind map link)> How many caves do you think are east of Caldera? It wasn't very effective at telling me where to go, and I don't enjoy having little direction in a game. It's boring. And the compass doesn't reveal too much. It's not like it tells you the enemies, loot, levels, traps and everything. It tells you a location. Morrowind did the same thing. "NO IT DIDN'T" you say? Wrong. Open your map in Morrowind. Yes. Local. See that? The little golden square? That called a location. It revealed the location even if you didn't see it with your own eyes. Compasses are useful. They don't "ruin" exploration. If it bothers you so much, either mod it out, or, and my friend did do this, tape paper over it.
