Some NPCs do look ugly unfortunately. Very ugly in some cases. Then again I shouldn′t say too much, my mirror doesn′t seem to like me either :D

Some are actually cute imo. Methredel and Lyra Rosentia are two of them, and Ida Vlinorman if the lighting is right ;)

They aren't all ugly - Cutter for example is rather cute in a Psychotic sort of way.
Bear in mind that if you are on PC you can always Prettify them right up...

I disagree. Some NPCs do look creepy, but most of them look perfectly fine.Take Arnora, for example. She's prettier than most female NPCs in Skyrim.

You haven't heard about this mod?: http://tes.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=39872

Makes all npc's more unique and more normal looking. Great mod.

Maybe Cyrodil is just really bad for your skin. I mean with all those zombies crawling all over every dungeon in the game I wouldn't be surprised if the air is a bit rotten.

I agree about this mod. Use a TNR version myself. I think the main reason why there are more "uggos" in Oblivion is the face gen slider isn't locked down as much as Skyrim. A lot of people complained about the 'potato faces' in Oblivion so they put clamps on the sliders to prevent those things from happening. That and Skyrim might be using a newer version of face gen as well.

I have to agree with the OP. After playing Skyrim, seeing screenshots that include NPCs in Oblivion make me shudder.

I still find them decent looking, you can't expect everyone to look like a supermodel, or as i refer to them, walking cloth hangers.

Fix'd that for you.

Ugly?! You clearly haven't seen my character http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l528/Lady-Mara-2/Arum3.jpg's handsome looks. 100% vanilla I'll have you know.

Also what about NPCs http://images.uesp.net/a/a3/SI-npc-Cutter.jpg from the Shivering Isles, or http://images.uesp.net/5/5b/OB-npc-Keld_of_the_Isles.jpg Do you not think they are fairly attractive?

I think the faces are pretty good.

I mean just look at http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/299342_269098723109862_100000292093968_1063708_69558649_n.jpg, made on the Ps3, I would link all the good looking NPCs but alas, they are way to much, me thinks he wants those "perfect" looking NPCs, I myself LOVE diversity.

Oh killerpenguin, you′re so

Some people want "beautiful" all the time. I think it's boring.

Most of the time, when I create a new character, I start with the "Random Face" button, and just click it until I see somebody interesting. I might make a minor adjustment, or change the "age" slider to fit the character, but those odd faces really speak to me.

I like the strange-looking NPCs. Blotchy, weathered skin is appropriate for people living in a tough medieval society without running water or bathtubs. These folks don't have health insurance to pay for dermatologists and dentists. Go look at the old family pictures, and see how "pretty" everybody is. (Do you realize that your great-great-grandmother probably made her own soap out of animal fat and ashes?)

Back in the days people knew how to care for themselves. Life was rough and that naturally was reflected in their faces. I′m beginning to think the Oblivion NPCs look too beautiful now! :P

They aren't really ugly. Might want to look at the unmodded Morrwind NPCs sometime

Oblivion was a big step up at the time of it's release.

One issue is that the heads are out of proportion to the bodies (they are larger than they should be; and that gives them a slightly cartoonish feel.

And by the way, there aren't many character's in Skyrim that I'd call beautiful. In particular the various elf seems to be less pretty than Oblivion. They might be more "realistic" but not really prettier than Oblivion. In my opinion.

It wouldn't be quite so bad if they didn't push up into your face when you talk to them. Just be glad you can't smell their breath.

Setting the zoom in the ini file helps with that.

Oh yes, we certainly have a beautiful elf around here- http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/vv43/Acadian6/Epic%20Buffy/ScreenShot960.jpg I don't think anyone could call her ugly.
