Why is everyone obsessed with Whiterun and Lydia?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 12:17 pm

Solitude is my favorite, and Markath is my least favorite out of the larger cities. Also, I really wish they flushed out Dawnstar and Falkreath more. I feel like the holds had potential but were just thrown together at the last minute.

The Reach, and Haafingar are my favorite. Markarth is beautiful with it's waterfalls and vistas. But it's somewhat marred by Cidhna Mine and the Forsworn. Solitude's architecture, places to visit add to its appeal. Vlindrel Hall (?) and Proudspire Manor are both great houses with former overlooking most of Markarth.

I like all of them except for Windhelm. That place is a [censored] to navigate. I always get lost, and can't find any shops at all.

I'm not obssessed with Lydia, and I'm not obssessed with whiterun, but I like whiterun. I dunno why, it just feels like such a nice place to be.

i like marthal, dawnstar, or winterhold the most. they are all out of the way ad have a nice country side to flee into (if i had to pick, i think dawnstar is best because thats the only ony you can get a "house" in i think)

@ magyaronny, to buy the windhelm hosue you have to get into the stormcloaks and play a few quests (i forgot how many), has nothing to do with helping the normal people

White run has a smith right in the area you spawn and next to that is the house up the rood is a general store. So yeah...

As for Lydia don't use that character, using that other character who uses plate armor but can't find any of them who won't say your not suppose to be here in some area.

lol that avatar is awsome  but if you dont mind walking east and killing a couple of respawning bandits i might have found http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Traitor%27s_Post, its not perfect, but its all i found (it says http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Houses where the non-respawning storage is, "has two wardrobes and a cupboard that you can store items in")

Yea Whiterun is my favorite. Centrally located, my house is next to the blacksmith (smithing is my only crafting) and there's several guys I can buy ingots from when I get to another level of armor/weapons (For both Orcish and Ebony, the instant they started appearing I wanted to craft matching suits of armor for me and Mjoll).

Solitude is nice.

I hate Windhelm and Markarth. Windhelm because it's such a dump. Don't they take any pride in their city at all? It looks like it hasn't seen any maintenance for the last century.

Markarth because it's such a pain to get around. At least for me.

Wow, I guess I'm one of the few who loves the Riften and its house 'ey? Come on people, Thieves Guild love!

It's close (very close, the alchemist is literally a jump down) proximity to shops is nice, the city-on-lake atmosphere really gives off a natural and unique vibe to it. As for the house itself, it's not to big and not to small (plus it has mannequins).

I like Whiterun as it's the first place I see, and spent most of my time there (my first house is there after all). Solitude is nice, and it really feels "grand capital" instead of mere towns like Windhelm or housing complex like Riverwood.

Lydia is a good companion. She doesn't complain much except when I try to give her better armors :banghead: I'll try to mod that complain out

What's your favorite Holds?

I prefer Honeyside in Riften, with Solitude's Proudspire Manor a close second.
I do NOT like Whiterun's Breezehome, simply because house attainment forces the MQ on my characters. Quests should never be forced on your characters. Period.
As for followers/companions? None. I venture alone. Housecarls can sit in my home and eat my food, but all ventures are mine and mine alone.

My questing priorities upon character creation:
1. Travel to Alchemist's Shack for a free flop w/storage until I can afford a home
2. Hircine for the Savior's Hide
3. Misc favors to get Honeyside in Riften.
4. Then, and only then, begin questing.
5. Once Lvl20, do just enough to get Proudspire Manor.
