Why is everyone obsessed with Whiterun and Lydia?

Haha, yeah and the way she says "My love" in that husky voice...

Solitude is my favorite, especially with all those pesky Imperial's out of there. Second would be Markarth.

Markarth is a confusing 4 level stair-athon

White run has your house surrounded by multiple merchants, its a L for most of what you want

Its nice and small but packed with what you really need.

Archery
Blacksmith
Potions
General
Inn

All in a straight shot

I hate whiterun haha. And lydia got killed off half an hour after I aquired her. I like windhelm the most, followed by solitude.

you go to whiterun as the first big town by following the main story, and Lydia is the first follower that you're lead to automatically and linearly. Everyone's obsessed because everyone's automatically led to these things. Those smart enough to investigate everything and decide for themselves are different with the occasional exception that genuinely chooses lydia and whiterun.

Well, my Dunmer Mage lives in Windhelm, weird, I know. But that was just because it was better then my Whiterun house, I don't play her anymore though.

My Khajit, I haven't bought a house yet. I'm thinking about Solitude though. It's just so cool, and I'd be the only Khajit in the city, not to mention, it's a richer city and that makes it easier for me to rob if I live there <.<

Stenvar and Meeko are my companions. My character is blind and Meeko became his guide, and Stenvar decided that he'd help out my character because he felt bad for the unfortunate events of his eyes being sewn no longer being able to see the world. I really like Stenvar over Lydia and Stenvar is super cool.

I pretend he's blind I use the shout Aura Whisper and I briefly glimpse at the map. I pretend the map is raised and is in some form of braile. He listens to Meeko's barks and knows locations by sounds and smells.

I remember the first time I gazed upon the wonderful city of Markarth. It was when I awoke, hungover, in the Chapel of Dibella. Oh what a great night that was! Markarth in my opinion, is the most beautiful city. I also have a fascination with Dwemer ruins and culture so this certainly adds to my love for Markarth. My Altmer, Umarlezohn, is also a cannibal. It was quite a coincidence that he found a group of cannibals who also worship Namira located in Markarth. Besides Markarth I enjoy Falkreath. I LOVE the pine forest, especially at night. The large graveyard located in the isolated Falkreath is very convenient for Umarlezohn's necromantic practices. I would also purchase property in Solitude. Not that Umarlezohn necessarily supports the empire, he just hates Nords and the nationalistic, racist, ignorant ways of there culture. This is why Windhelm is my least favourite.

Personally I like Riverwood and Winterhold. Two lovely places with completely different settings.

I wish I could marry http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Malur_Seloth, he's one of the best looking Dunnmer males in the game.

Wanted to try the house in Windhelm, but I can't get the quest to trigger. Those that got it to work should count themselves lucky. That quest is bugged from beginning to end it seems.

So I bought the house in Solitude instead. Don't really care for it. Figure I'll try Markarth next. Whiterun is nice, but not quite right for me.

I have a house in every city except for Windhelm, because I can't get the one quest to trigger (so hopefully, I can soon, unless it requires me to swear myself to the Stormcloacks, then I will wait until I do more with the Imperials). I generally do most of my living/storing in Solitude, just because I craft and sell there the most. My favorite place is probably Riften, because the house is the perfect size, great storage, everything is close by, and you have a pretty view of the lake. I am also a huge fan of the Thieves Guild, so it makes perfect sense. I only ever go to Whiterun if I need to sell items. I ventured with Lydia once as a companion, but since the followers generally get in my way, I choose to adventure alone. I suppose it depends on personal preference. :)

I haven't been to every city yet, but I really like the convenience of Whiterun for selling items and smithing. It's really that simple. Number 2 for me would be Solitude.

I had Lydia with me for a while until I beat up Uthgerd the Unbroken in a bar fight. She's then traveled with me for a few levels and complained a lot less than Lydia. She also looks a lot tougher. When I found the Steed stone (for carrying loot) I decided I would rather travel solo, so that's what I prefer at the moment.

Whiterun, I like it mainly because of the blacksmiths there, and my house is right next door to it.

And I use my house there to store about 1,000,000 coins worth of stolen goods.

I like Whiterun, but it's not my favourite city. The reason I like it is:

- There are two Blacksmiths.
- There are many people to sell crafted items to.
- The house is there is extremely easy to get to.

Having said that, I don't really use that house anymore - I have purchased all the houses and my favourite is Hjerim - it's just unfortunate I do not like Windhelm all that much.

As for Lydia, I had her as my main companion after getting her until I got Jordis. Lydia was alright, but I much prefer Jordis - the way she speaks sounds a lot less whiny, even though she says the same things.

I'm not a fan of Lydia at all. After I got Vorstag for my follower, I went to Breezehome & found Lydia chilling in my room like a creep. So I killed her.

Whiterun is good for selling things, but I much prefer Windhelm & Riften. Windhelm because my character is a Stormcloak, and the city is so diverse- and Riften because the Thieves Guild is my favorite faction.

I live in Riften, i like it 'cause unlike the other cities it ain't full of nords, there's more variaty in races. Also since i restored the thieves guild there are more markets than in any other city and they are close to the house, and tonilia has 4000 to sell your stuff.
The house itself is not that great but it feels cozy, and the best of all is the easy access, you're just one door from skyrim, you can even park your horse im the porch!! How awesome is that :P

I also own a house in whiterun and markarth, the markath house is really nice and the city is beatifull... But i hate every single ppl in it!!

Oh and lydia, she pretty much dead already so.....
