Why is Fallout 3 so hated?

Post » Sun Jul 29, 2012 5:57 pm

Never understood this. Will somebody tell me why? I see people say on this forum that it was the worst game ever and i don't understand, if you hate it so much why do you post in its forums?

Not to many people here hate Fallout 3. I don't hate it, but I don't think it's that great. Why are we here? Cause we love the Fallout Universe and Bethesda owns Fallout, so we come here to talk about it and maybe even get heared.

This is a forum, a place for people to debate and discuss. If all we did was agree it would be a very dull place.

hate is such a STRONG word, i would say i love fallout for bringing the series back to life, but i hate them for the Fannys who insist that Bethesda makes a better fallout the Obsidian. i can say more, but im too buzy being the top post on every single topic on the Elder Scrolls: Online fourms

The fanbase is divided and for some reason, can't get along. examples, this comes straight from my sig:
Hipster Hater

:

Spoiler
Often a http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FoeYay fan. They insist that their obsession with the object of their hate is "ironic", or insist that any work which becomes mainstream has "sold out" and cannot be http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TrueArt:http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ItsPopularNowItsvcksThey cannot be an acknowledged fan to a popular work, so they are this instead. This tends to overlap with business hatred, too. Many of these guys will buy alternate brand names or other such stuff to "Stick it to the man". Expect many of these people to complain about businesses trying to make a profit, such as saying it is "unforgivable" that businesses *gasp* have terms of service or ask

money

for their works. Corporate creators have no problems with this sort of Hatedumb, either.

These are the people who hate fallout 3 for its success

Pop Culture Snob

:

Spoiler
The opposite of the Hipster Hater, they actively avoid anything outside a narrow range of popular shows. Anything over five years old is "for old people". Anything involving an animal must be http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Yiff. Often overlaps withhttp://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ComplainingAboutShowsYouDontWatch. The inverse of http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ItsPopularNowItsvcks. Their battle cry is It's Unpopular, So It svcks

The Willfully Blind

variety will refuse to acknowledge any potential strengths or possibly even anything that was done correctly. The willfully blind may also try and convince everyone else to

the strengths because they

do not exist

. They are prone to

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AccentuateTheNegative

arguments or reviews. Sometimes, they may have a single issue about the work and hate it solely because of that — usually because they stopped watching afterwards. Expect even in-depth reviews written by this hater to discuss

only the parts they know and can't stand

. Even if the production staff ran every decision by them, they would complain about how they "weren't asked enough". No matter what, the willfully blind will fixate on a single flaw or

any

weaknesses.

a big problem with fallout fans, some will never point out the pros, only their opinion's cons

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ItsTheSameNowItsvcks

:

Spoiler
These haters are commonly known for having a minimalistic view of fandoms they don't belong to. Sometimes, entire franchises or genres will attract these types of haters. They will pull the "It's the exact same as this"-card, sometimes http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ComplainingAboutShowsYouDontWatch . They sometimes have no moderate or casual likes; they view everything they aren't an outright fan of narrowly. For instance, somebody who does not like High-School dramas might view every show set in high school as being like Degrassi . Note that, in such a case, it is possible that they likeDegrassi and just think all the others are redundant (since they're the same) and thus pointless — in which case, they're likely a Rival Fan. Many times, they invoke the " http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheyCopiedItSoItsvcks " card and accuse everything of being a ripoff of something they consider quality.

"TES with guns so it svcks" crowd

Nostalgia Inversion

Spoiler
: Nostalgia Inversion is when http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HypeBacklashh ,andhttp://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DidNotDoTheResearchmix. The hater refuses to realize that something wasn't made in the present day, and refuses to make allowance for it. They cannot put themselves in the correct mindset to watch a work made before its genre got deconstructed. Or they expect special effects to look the same in the '50s as in the '00s. The opposite is the

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NostalgiaFilter

You will notice that we have a trope for this - because it is such a common behaviour to trash on the modern stuff and idealize the stuff you liked when you were younger, because it's skewed through the years that you only remember the

good

parts - not the fact that there was a

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PeripheryHatedom

for something that was marketed to you at age six. Not the fact that even advlts were criticising it for the same reasons you criticize the modern stuff for...only the good parts, ie, the pros. For a more in-depth example, check the article, but this is an unfortunate type because it's being

so

propagated and encouraged in fandom.

It's true, some people really hate modern times and cling to the past.

The Science Snob:

Spoiler
People with a http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WillingSuspensionOfDisbelief thinner than a razor. One "inaccuracy" will cause them to scream http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DidNotDoTheResearch and makes the show a pile of unwatchable dreck and "not properly researched", regardless of whether or not they http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Irony. Very commonly blind to http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AcceptableBreaksFromReality , and may often be found complaining about "unrealistic" aspects of the shows. Sometimes, someone will respond to their claims with "in a show where people can do magic, I don't think they're really going for realism, here."

With some of the criticisms i've seen, this one fits perfectly.

I don't get this idea that if someone doesn't think Fallout 3 is the best, they must hate Bethesda and Fallout 3.

I wouldn't say many people here hate it.

I personally don't like that Fallout 3 has attracted so many TES fans and believe that Fallout should be made the same.

I also don't like that people come along, play Fallout 3, then beleive they know everything about what a Fallout game is and should be without even touching the originals.

I don't hate Fallout 3, just that Bethesda seems to want to cater to TES fans.

Well i'm saying i've seen threads attacking Fallout 3, people attacking people who's opinions say Fallout 3 is their favorite, [censored] even in the what got you hooked to fallout has the anti fallout stuff in it. Even when someone asked help for a quest. and some of the criticism is like dirtymutant said, The Science Snob, and they are just little things that never bother me or many other people.

It really isn't because they hate Fallout 3. Its mostly because alot of the things have been repeated many times. Also I noticed those comments pop up when someone acts as if the only Fallout game is Fallout 3. But mostly it's the internet and people need to learn not to get their backs up everytime someone makes critical comment. If you see something that you feel is nothing but a flame comment simply report it and the mods will deal with it.

About the criticism thing, I actually like it. Why? they make great memes  Literally, every fallout meme i've seen has been a criticism and big deal for people on a certain fansite. So i say just keep lettin'em do it because they are funny. just look at em https://www.google.com/search?um=1&hl=en&rlz=1C1GGGE_enUS463US475&q=fallout+memes&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&biw=1366&bih=624&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=upAUUIyXNIqm9AT7w4GYCQ

What i've learned is that the threads named "Why do people hate Fallout 3" or "Fallout 3 is da best in the series" are always made by people who have never played the originals. I sense a connection.

Oh and dirtymutant, I'm looking at the fallout memes just now. None about fan hate but some of those are hilarious. Don't know why i haven't seen 'em before.

Most of us just criticize Fallout 3, and point out it's flaws. Hoping Bethesda will take notice and fix those issues with the next Fallout game.

Fallout 3 isn't hated, completely.

It's just disliked by Dino Fallout fans (people who love the lore and have played older ones), misunderstood by noobies (people who showed up at Fallout 3, thinking this is what the series should be), but overall accepted as a game.

Most people will agree that Fallout is an OK game, but not a great Fallout game

Fix'd.

But yeah this post sums it up mainly. Myself, I think Fallout 3 is a fun game and much better than standard fare, but is not a good Fallout game at all.
