Why Fallout maps are King!

Post » Fri Jun 14, 2013 4:58 am

Recently I was reading a debate between others about why Skyrim was better than both F3 and FNV. It included a user poll, and one of the categories that Skyrim won in a landslide was "better map". Now I concede the fact that Skyrim has a larger and prettier map, but that is all down to the new ultra-powerful engine. But there was something that nobody brought up (not even the defenders of Fallout). Fallout has by far the more memorable locations! In skyrim there were 5 large walled cities, and I cant even remember their names anymore. The things you found exploring were castles, draugr tombs, draugr tombs, and more draugr tombs. But for me Fallout had an amazing combination of areas that make its (dated) map superior.

- Megaton

- Rivet City

- The Pentagon

- New Vegas

- Every single Vault

- Nipton

- Little Lamplight

- D.C Metro

- The Divide

- Big Mountain

I could go on and on, but for me that concludes that even with its technological limits Fallout maps are king.

( If I missed a city/location that you found memorable please tell me)

Skyrim has a much better map and map diversity to it than any of the previous TES games, with the exception of maybe Morrowind. That being said, the Fallout games do have more of the memorable locations than most games do. Probably for me because I can see myself more so in the Fallout world than the TES world. I mean we are all a button push away from being in our own Fallout game.

I think Fallout has more memorable locations because most of the map is a wasteland, so anything of interest sticks out better, and becomes more memorable.

Even in Morrowind, the joy of the map was just stopping to take a look around. In Fallout, the joy of the map was finding someplace that did not want to kill you.

Skyrim is pretty due to the fact that it has vibrant colors, like bright ass green and blue skies and large snowy mountains.

Fallout is definately more memorable due to the fact that the Wasteland itself is Brown and Yellow and flat/rocky, but when you see a town in the wasteland, it pokes out more. Yaddamean?

"new ultra-powerful engine"

Hah! That's laughable.

Anyway, who gives a [censored]? The map isn't even half of what makes Fallout, Fallout.
