Why 'Fallout 4' Will Never Be The New 'Skyrim"

Post » Fri Jan 22, 2016 10:19 am

No, it's not. But it's super easy to digest cause there's nothing to think about, so of course a lot of people play it. I play it too, avidly, and keep hoping there's something more to it than just gunning my way across the wasteland. And to make a comprehensible list of everything I need to mod.

I love Fallout, and I will probably keep playing Fallout 4 for quite some time to come. Graphics are way better than FO3, obviously, and it actually runs smoother than Skyrim did for me, so it's sort of a good mix. I just wish it was actually interesting, but that's where mods come in.

Took me 800 hours to find out just how boring Skyrim is. Now I can't play it. I can bare4ly watch friends of mine play it.

We'll see how long Fallout 4 lasts. ;)

I hope the many races of TES will make it impossible to have a voiced protagonist in the next one. But watch it be Skyrim 2 and you can only play a Nord lol

Aerosmith once had that song, going by the title "Dream on". That's my thoughts on future games not having voiced protagonists.

There is actually plenty to think about, people on these forums have been thinking about the content in the games a lot. Head on over to one of the faction debate threads where people are questioning the morality of the factions or if they're good for the commonwealth and you'll see how many people actually think about it. Plus there are quests that can be solved without violence as well as several random encounters. Of course there is still going to be a element of fighting in there because, well, what do you expect from a game in a very hostile wasteland? I'm sorry Boston isn't a completely intact city that revolves around a series of detective cases that just for some reason happens to be in the Fallout universe but that's not a game that would make sense.

Unlike ME, most of the races in ES don't have voice modifier, some may have accents, but depending on the environment they were raised in, they may not. I hope ES has voice, it has to play games with no voice now that I have played games with voiced protagonist.

If only that was the initial case. Instead, the moron opted to just face unjust execution for no reason. Completely ruined my RP as I no interest in playing such a mentally weak individual. Hell, I would've been happy if we could even run like Lokir did.

Sound like the shortest game Beth ever made.

I think we're talking about two different things. I don't really care about speculating in the various factions motives, I think those are pretty much stuck right in your face the minute you make contact with them. I'm talking about having multiple options for solving quests, including some that doesn't involve you gunning down everything that moves. I may have stumbled across one or two of those in about 100 hours of gameplay. In the previous titles, shooting people was for the most part optional and rarely a requirement for finishing a quest.

And we can actually run around solving detective cases if you finish Valentine's quest line. Haven't done a lot of them yet, though.

Anyone would be utterly sick of a game after 800 hours. I learn to stop way before I get tired of playing it because I want it to remain a positive memory. I played Skyrim for around 250-300 hours including all the DLC. That's a LOT of time for me. I'm right around 150 hours on fallout 4 and starting to taper down now. I think I'm close to feeling done. I won't compare Skyrim to Fallout, but if I had to choose a preference, I would say Skyrim because of my pocket spectral horse. That was quite special.

Say anything about Beth, but their games would always take days to finish, and it's worth more than a typical 6-20 hours game you get nowadays.

Voiced protagonist, the dialogue not being that great, and some technical problems on my machine are what keeps Fallout 4 from being my favourite game compared to Bethesda's other works.

I can say this is the second release that I have some elements that I don't like, the first one being Oblivion with its really wonky level scaling, but then its still Bethesda and its still by far the best game to come out in 2015, at the very least in my opinion. I think Skyrim is going to be a high water mark in a lot of respects, that's what brought Bethesda from mainstream and respected AAA developer to completely crazy blockbuster levels of success. Same with Oblivion in 2006 taking them into that mainstream from the huge cult following with Morrowind that expanded upon the heavy cult following that already existed with Daggerfall.

Huh, maybe TES VI will be the next big one?

In my Eyes Fallout could be the same Gold Cow like the Elder Scrolls. I just feel sorry for the Franchise for the less Love i see here. Fallout 4 Shooting + Fallout Dialog Depth from previous Games (so far i know) could be the best for it. Even the low Content compared to Skyrim wouldnt be that bad anymore. Many People say Fallout has less but better Quests but so far i like both Games, they have both good Quests. But has FO4 better ones? I just can say no...

Um Fallout has guns and mini nukes and Skyrim has magic and swords, ofcorse they will always be different OP, that's like saying "bread will never be the new water" they are completely different things.

All these games basically consist of what I call the FedEx simulator. Go, fetch, go kill, go liberate, repeat. I can't see any improvement with FO4, but I don't see it getting worse neither.

I think ive always liked Fallout a wee bit better since its been a consistent post-apocalypse aesthetic every time, and I like that a bit better than the more generic fantasy stuff in Oblivion and Daggerfall.

If the patterns hold out though Fallout 4 will sell more than Skyrim but not drastically more. Then the next TES game will absolutely blow open the sales records and cause some pure insanity to flow forth. Skyrim was pretty damn big though, we might be hitting some sort of situation where the maximum amount of people who would be interested in a Bethesda game have already bought a copy and there's not much room left to grow.

During my 20 hours of playing Skyrim, I decided to check out the forums for it.

This was just after launch. There was just as much (if not more) [censored]ing and moaning going on over there as there is here.

F4 has been out for just over 3 months.

it is amazing. There's just something about Bethesda games, for whatever reason people just can't let go. It would almost be interesting to get a professional opinion, psychologically that is. I mean, I bought and played games that I didn't like. I've had it happen with stand alone games and sequeals. Even times a game has been completely changed by the sequeal like RTC3 and mech commander. But never did I feel some uncontrollable, primordial urge to take to the internet and cry, [censored], and complain for months, and in some cases years. The behavior of people who don't care fore the game, the paradoxical obsession with it, the feeling they've been personally snubbed, the desire to disparag it endlessly; is perhaps one of the most fascinating things I've seen in a long time
