Why 'Fallout 4' Will Never Be The New 'Skyrim"

Post » Fri Jan 22, 2016 3:33 am

Quoted for truth.

oh god people went on and on and on how Morrowind was bethesda selling out to the graphics crowd choosing style over substance. And if you were an 'old school' fan you would understand not some noob. Every time Bethesda has released a game during the internet age it has been a so called disaster by the naysayers. Yet every title has sold better than the last if only i could be cursed with bethesda's history of disasters in all my endeavours.

Uhm... I remember back in the day of Skyrim a lot and by that too many people said they couldn't role-play because there was no character classes so their immersion in role playing was gone. :P

I am not saying you are wrong, just thought it was funny reading this after reading how bad Skyrim and horrible Skyrim was. It seems Bethesda was correct after all. :) That being said, seeing how a lot of negativity was in the beginning of Skyrim and seeing how Bethesda got it right, I am sure Fallout 4 is just following the same path and come Fallout 5, we will have come full circle and people will be saying how Fallout 4 got it so right and Fallout 5 doesn't.

Only real evil option you have in this game, is when it is time to decide the final outcome, after the linear quest splits into 4. Nothing else "evil" that you mention for example, will have an impact on the world. What's the point in being evil, if that choice ultimately doesn't matter, other than in the end, where at least one faction will view it as good or a necessary evil anyways? FO4 in my view can't be black or white, only a lot of grey.

Oh so you need a quest to make it evil?

Join the brotherhood. Get a quest to secure food for the troops. Go to said farm murder everyone secure the farm for the brotherhood. Does that make it evil enough for you?

What it's not evil unless it is fun? Just because it is "boring," a subjective adjective if there ever was one, it isn't evil?

You have choice you just don't like it. If you can't role play an evil character in FO4 it is not because FO4 doesn't allow you to do so, it is because you can't role play period.

Can't you also sell his parents into slavery along with him as well?

Damn and here I thought Fallout 4 couldn't match Fallout 3's level of evil. Just without the mustache twirling.

The BoS could send you to the same Farm but the Settler you need to end the Quest is just dead and you cant complete it. Its a nice... Bug and not a Evil feature. I already did that too.

So ur evil because of one Quests? :chaos:

I don't remmeber people complaining about Morrowind compared to Daggerfall when the former was released. Maybe it was because of it's popularity back then, the games were not as massively played as they are now, and several people were discovering Bethesda's games for the first time. So the vocal minorities were not really as loud.

With Oblivion I did read some comments over the internet about it, but it was mostly well received, all that changed with Skyrim though, getting praised everywhere also ensured that everyone and their mother played it, that meant shortly after you would find lots of people complaining about the game and comparing it to oblivion and to morrowind, at this point people still ignore Daggerfall by a huge margin because the first two ES are treated like if they don't even exist. The conditions are really different now because Fallout 4 had to be compared with The Witcher 3, with Fallout 3, with Skyrim, with Fallout New Vegas, with Oblivion, Morrowind, and people always brings up the aspects at which those games do something better, people rarely compare Fallout 4 to point out where this game is superior to the games I listed.

So as expected Fallout 4 has a lot more competition than Morrowind, and the likes, it is expected to have everything and much more. When in reality this game is really not much different from other Bethesda games, at least in my case I can say I am used to play new Bethesda games that add a lot of new stuff, while also missing other lot of old stuff. They have always done that with all their games, I find it strange that people didnt start noticing that until now.

Let's not forget complaints about being forced to be Dragonborn, or the 'chosen one'. Now they complain about being an average joe with a family.

Ok, I don't want Fallout 4 to be the new skyrim? I want it to be, well, Fallout 4 which it does well. I don't understand the idea of a game having to be "the new x" why can't we just look at the game in it's own merits?

I don't want Fallout 3 2, I don't want New Vegas 2, I don't want skyrim or oblivion with guns, I just want a new Fallout game that is massively fun to me and that's pretty much what I got.

People hated that Morrowind was so small compared to Daggerfall, and that Beth mostly cared about graphics.

There's always going to be a group that hate everything Bethesda does. And then suddenly like/ their older game/s.

Then why the Metacritic score is so low, looks like of all the BGS games this one is the most hated. Why this one, why not Fallout 3?

I went back into FO3 the other day on an old character save, wandered up behind Meg and the Vault, and climbed to the top of the wrecked overpass, and enjoyed the view...and it was good, and that was all I did.

"Let's climb to the top of the Corvega plant, have a picnic and enjoy the view", said no one ever.

He's been putting out negative stuff about the game since it came out. He doesn't like, and for some reason can'tlet go.

I don't need F4 to be the new "Skyrim" I want it to stand apart on its own even from the fallout classics.

Plenty of reasons. First of all you don't need to buy the game to rate it on Metacritic, so alot of the negative reviews are just trolling. One of the other groups is people that express their opinion like this "OMG CRAP GAME CAN*T ROLEPLAY. CALL OF DUTY!?!?!" and then you have the people that actually have good critique about the game, and they feel like it strays to far away from what Fallout should be.

Because people have too much time on their hands and people know that metacritic is a really awful site that never moderates it's user reviews or the users themselves unless it's clear the account is a dummy account made only to make a bad review and even then it's really awful at that. Lesson of the story, don't trust user reviews for metacritic, not the first time a game has been astro-turfed on metacritic.

Also, playing evil; since when did Bethesda really allow this? You have never been allowed to RP a chaotic evil character in any Bethesda game. A couple of quests here and there does not count. The only game I can think of, that I also like, is SWTOR. Specifically if you play a sith warrior.

Playing a hero is the almost absolute norm in gaming. And it's boring, Imo.

Don't you worry, FO3 is very hated too ;)

But now the new kids on the block stole the spotlight. If you're asking me why, i'd say because the many changes are not in favor of RP (poor dialogue, voiced actor, forced backstory, a lot of fetch 'radiant'quests that don't motivate to replay)

Forced backstory really isn't a new concept in RPGs, even in the Fallout series it's a pretty common thing. 1, 2, Tactics, 3 and New Vegas all had forced backstory. New Vegas just toned down on it until you get to the DLC stuff but it's still there. Then you have numerous other franchises that do this, hell Witcher 3 and Deus Ex don't even allow you to make your own character yet both are considered really good RPGs.

I think most of the forced backstory hate is primarily TES players or new players who don't understand Fallout is different in design from the elder scrolls when it comes to this stuff.
