Why do I find being a higher level more boring?

Post » Wed Jun 27, 2012 12:35 pm

Hey, y'all! I was playing Skyrim as my 'Shadow Mage' and reached level 51 and I jus got insanely bored. I walked into Solitude and just killed everybody... everybody! Out of boredom! Is there anything I can do to make this better? I've completed every long storyline besides the companions and the bards guild... HELP!

its because the game is too easy once you reach a certain level, if you haven't already done it i suggest cranking up the difficulty to master

I tend to build a new character around that level. I'm trying to flesh my latest character out a bit more though. I'm hoping to find some dragon scale armour.

Aha! Turning up the level helps alot! Thanks, man! I appreciate that! You probably just kept me from deleting my 'Shadow mage', which I would've regreted later on, down the road.
Thanks, Charles B.

Personally, I've never made it past level 40 before, usually start a new character around level 25-30, which seems to take about 150-200 hours each time (playing on Master) and doing one or two faction questlines.

The vanilla game world encounter zones are designed more for characters between level 1 - 50. It's not scaled unrealistically to the extent that Oblivion is, for example. Instead, there is a form of scaling like FO3, where there are higher level areas and lower level areas. Once you get up around level 30-40, a lot of the combat encounters become less challenging in lower level areas.

If you are on PC and want to experience more challenging combat above level 50, I'd recommend installing some mods that spice things up at higher levels, like Deadly Combat, ASIS, Deadly Dragons, Realistic Wildlife, Occupy Skyrim, etc.

Also, keep in mind there seems to be a leveling multiplier bug in the Civil War quest resulting in the CW enemies spawning at very low level, so if you are above level 10-15, the CW battles are probably too easy. You can fix this specific issue with the Unofficial Skyrim Patch.

It's probably partially because you no longer get the gratification of leveling up every 5 minutes.

I would say you bore from higher level characters which is fine but only you OP truly know why you get bored.

I personally like leveling my character and the feeling of being powerful I will play my main character for well over a thousand hours.

The human psyche is one that desperately craves and needs achievement and feedback. So as you level up, you are getting constant feedback from the game in the form of numbers. Level 10, level 20, level 97 smithing, and your consciousness loooves this. It's a constant bombardment of pure success and growth in skill. You feel as if you are getting better and it makes you feel important, and really, to the brain, winning a trophy in sports is no different than reaching level 50 in Skyrim. But as you begin to level, this begins to drastically slow down. You level less. You don't get anymore perks. Fights become simple and provide no challenge, thus providing no pride or feeling of importance for winning them. You begin to amass gold and items become so much less rewarding because you already have much better. This is why games like Call of Duty and World of Warcraft are so immensely popular. WoW in particular. The leveling system stays relevant and you are bombarded by a feeling of success that is so hard to achieve in life, and it is a psychologically addictive affect. So in basic terms, this psychological effect begins to diminish as the game gets easier and levels become less frequent.

I could not disagree more. Low level is boring. Higher levels = tougher enemies, more epic Mage battles, better loot.

I agree about level 20-45. But when you are a super high level rocking maxed out equipment and you can cut down enemies in one slice, it gets a bit tedious. You have so much money that you don't even bother with loot, and there isn't a single better piece of equipment in the whole game. That get's boring.

Hi,

if on PC, you can dl mods that will make the game very challenging irrespectively of your lvl. Unleveled World and Requiem will make you sob just as much at lvl 81 as at lvl 1. And play DiD for increased immersion...

True. At level 41, I was a millionaire and by level 50, I had my second million. With Dragon armor, I can run through dungeons full of Draugr and practically ignore them all and just b****h slap them all to death with Daedric swords with dual enchants if they get too annoying.

The strange part is that Alduin is now dead so who is resurrecting those new dragons? Since he died, 4 dragon mounds have been disturbed and the dragons from them are flying around but there's no more main quest to indicate who is doing it as far as I can see. They are still about the only thing that represents a challenge now but with the Dragonrend shout and Daedric swords it's not too difficult.

Turn the difficulty up to master. Try all the smaller quests, or clearing up every single cave you come across. I'm sure there is still a lot of content you haven't even touched yet :)
