Why no footage on PS3 and PC?

Post » Wed Oct 12, 2011 1:34 pm

Whats even more sad is that if the new consoles were on par with high end PC's, they would cost ALOT, so therefor Id say the new consoles will be midrange PC's whenever they release. They will age even faster than the PS3 and 360 did (keep in mind the current consoles have been old for awhile)

Unless they made snap in, plug play simplistic upgrades for future consoles. Then they wouldn't have to come out with a new system every "x" amount of years. The idea from Nintendo 64 with that red add in pack that made graphics look better supposedly...but using it as a example...certain games would have certain requirements just like a PC...consoles are for the simplicity, and comfort. Make it easy, portable still, but upgradable and upgrades would not require a install, just snap in and close the lid per se.

Man, I almost feel sorry for our PS3 friends. 360 users get a game tailored to their console, PC users get mods and PS3 users get a product that is very obviously a port from either of the other two.

Goodness, it's already been confirmed that ALL screenshots and ALL video footage is on ALL consoles. Bethesda is just not saying what media is from what machine.

There isn't anything worth showing, that's why there are no pictures

At the very least, the UI is worth showing (in video preferably) so we know how it'll work and how "comfortable" it'll be to use. It's also to give credence to Todd's "it looks way better" and Pete's "it will melt your face" comments. They want us to believe them, but without pictures or video, won't give us a reason to, particularly since it contradicts previous statements.

Pete Hines was wrong, then... and this is certainly not the only time. At least for footage, everything has either been outright stated to be on the 360 and/or it has 360-exclusive button prompts in it, hence we've only seen 360 footage and as for the screenshots, the fact of the matter is they're, almost childishly, not confirming which are which... although we do know which, of some, are 360 screenshots. I'm pretty sure a majority of them are from the 360, anyway... seeing as all the footage is from the 360. Observe the 360 button prompts in the footage and direct confirmation from Todd or Gstaff about what we're watching being the 360 version and observe the blatant ignoring of the PC and PS3 fanbases. It's obviously clear.

They are pretty much useless then. We want to know what the game will look on our console of choice, not play a guessing game.

They all look the same anyways, so who cares.

Please continue, my good sir. and gtfo 360 flamer. That last poll was cluttered by 360 gamers who are required to fill out each poll in order to submit it.

And Todd Howard said: "I can assure you the PC version looks even way better."

Yeah, I'm pretty pissed with Bethesda for not showing off ANY PS3 or PC footage and leaving us on these forums with 360 gamers while we have no evidence of a better-looking game. Some 360ers can carry on a pretty good conversation about gameplay mechanics, but the vast majority make me want to rage, scream, and insert every single idiotic remark of theirs into my signature as a Wall of Shame.

Y'know there IS a massive difference between other Bethesda games between ps3 and 360.... on 360 the game works great and it looks virtually identical to ps3. on ps3 the game looks virtually identical to 360-except the game crashes every 5 minutes.

Hmm...

Oblivion looks and works better in PS3
Fallout 3 has better textures in PS3, and it hasn't show me any bug.
Fallout NV is not from Bethesda.

Can not add 64 bit (and thereby larger levels, more stuff, more NPC's, etc) support.
Can not add DX-11 functionality, as the actual code base and game resources have to be designed from the start with this in mind.
If the render pipeline only used DX-9c shaders and code, then that is all the modders can play with.

I'd imagine there isn't PC footage because the 360 kids might get a bit jelly (not saying 360 users are kids, i'm saying kids are 360 users)
I'm puzzled about the PS3 though. Either its a bad port and they don't want you guys to see it or micro$oft is paying beth to only show 360 footage.

I'm confident of seeing footage from other consoles before release though, even if it is only a few days before release.

Omg 30 days to go.

Arguably though, I suppose as long as we can determine that all the shots are of a roughly eqaul standard, we have nothing to worry about. Even if some seemed a lot better and the rest were on par with each other thats probably PC which are higher grade whilst PS3 and 360 are the same.

I feel a bit left out in the cold, but at the same time, the way they handle modding makes them eternal supporters of PC gamers.

Blunt answer? Microsoft probably paid them to showcase 360 footage.

Wow. I never knew you were a developer, as that is the only way you could know something like that..... :shakehead:
And that is my point. The facts of the matter are that it is looking like every other game studio who has utterly blown their game ports, and are desperately hiding it, hoping to get a quick burst of impulse sales before the word gets out.

Very few. But then again, the majority of studios seem to release their chosen platform first, then port; not try and be all things to all people.....except they expect you trust that one platform can tell you all you need to know about the others.

Yeah, I doubt you've actually played many "PC ports" nowadays, or you have high standards...

What can you tell?
Lighting model behavior differences.
Shadow system differences.
Drawing range.
Audio fidelity (if it is a straight screen capture, not an assembled and overlooped piece)
Geometry behavior at different resolutions (rounding or popping errors for example. Or backfacing polygons that were missed)
Texture quality and mapping.
Displacement mapping quality
Normal mapping quality
Animation engine behavior with a more robust processor behind it (you can see motion stutter in the demo footage. Maybe framerate, maybe lack of resources. Which it is would be obvious in an unclamped environment).

Hows that?

So you cannot see these on the 360 version because...

Oh, you mean they would improve it for the Pc and PS3?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
