Why am I getting such horrible framerates?

Post » Thu Nov 11, 2010 5:03 pm

I have a quad core 2.8Ghz processor, 6GB Ram, and a ATI Radeon HD 5830 Graphic Card.

For some reason my framerate will drop to around 20fps and I have no idea to fix it.

- Sometimes it'll work fine though getting me around 45fps on extreme settings, but on days when it drops to 20, i just can't play.

What is causing this, and how do i fix it?

I restart it multiple times, but the same issue occurs. Sometimes i'll get lucky and it will work, but it's a pain to have to leave MP games because of this issue.

Sounds like a heating problem.
Am i the only one on these forums that puts there settings lower
so they can play at 60fps?

possibly outdated drivers? have you updated to patch 1.1? and sorry to say but the 5830 isn't the most amazing graphics card for running on extreme especially in MP trying to render all the players and action at the same time

it doesnt happen to me to often but when it does i just either restart or let it sit there until it starts working again. this is a crysis problem, a few other people have been getting the same issue.

your not in xfire are you?

no I'm not.

- Also, I've tried turning down the resolution, changing the graphic option from high, very high, and extreme. and it's not a heating issue.

It really doesn't matter what i turn it to, it'll remain on 20fps.

but sometimes i'll get it too work by changing the resolution down, and then back up. It just doesn't make any sense to me, and I agree it has to be a problem with crysis. have no other problem like this on any other game.

Do you have a program to check gpus temp? You should alt tab out when this lag happens and see how hot it is.

Besides that, I've heard some people report same fps drops as well. Maybe its the game.

this IS what exactly is happening on me!!

setting runs perfectly on SP could be disastrous on MP
and i think i know how it is triggered: the first map on whtever mp game would work perfectly fine, but then after loading the next map, i keep getting strange stuttering and during firefights my fps drops significantly. the situation gets worse during the 3rd, 4th 5th... maps. my game would stutter so much that even quitting the game takes a very long time.

yes restarting the game 'fixes' the issue but i dun think one should restart the game everytime a new map is loaded... this is frustrating...

i suspect there's some kind of memory leak or data on the previous maps not being cleared

i have the afterburner monitoring the temps. absolutely no overheat issues. its about game code or connectivity to servers, i guess

Check your processor temp. I doubt this is the game issue. I have old q6600 at 3,4 ghz + 6870. game runs smoothly all the time. install catalyst 11.2 if U have older. If this won't help, reinstall the game and defrag your hdd. Maybe this will help.

i serious doubt this is overheat issue because it keeps happening at the SECOND map of a restarted game
such regular condition which triggers it has nth to do with hd issues IMHO

i'm using n-card drivers, everything's up to date and at proper condition (and probably the same for other victims here) and have no similar events in OTHER GAMES so i think we could skip the usual 're-install this n that'

2.8ghz is a joke? are you retarded?

I'm getting 40-60fps with Core 2 Duo 3.0ghz. It's not his CPU.

No, perfectly far above average intelligence. That's for damn sure.

Anyways. Yes. 2.8ghz is a joke. That's literally half the speed of decently clocked i7. You people are n00bs here, so I don't expect you to know about overclocking.... lets just say 4.0ghz+ or nothing.

My 4.2ghz Core i7 says "Hi". ;)

its obviously memory leak issue
frds with top spec setup are also getting this stuttering
unless youre giving out your 4.2g i7, i dun see how your reply is helping

Jesus, more of you coming out of the wood work eh?

Yeah your CPU is slow dude, it doesn't do any of what you said it did, telling to "phuck" off or whatever. Bit of advice, I've been doing this for 17 years+, my word is **** law, and 2.8ghz i7's are slow. Got it?

Especially now that Sandy Bridge is out. Learn how to overclock dude, replying to me with an insult with anything less than 4.2ghz was really stupid, obviously you would have just got owned when I mentioned my 4.2ghz i7.

Another one! Yay!

I was just screwing around. Calm yourselves.

2.8ghz i7's are slow still tho... no arguing that one!

i3 540 OC'd to 4.39ghz with twin frozr MSI gtx 470 say's Hi.

Top of the line i7 is not needed at all really, unless you're running a server you're wasting the processor power and your money. i7 is what 950e? I got my i3 for 120e back in January and it run's perfectly fine with anything I throw at it.

As for the OP, it seems very unusual that you would have such issues. However, after you said you've checked drivers/overheating etc. and you havent found them to be the problem I would have to say that you should give overclocking a go. You could get that clocked to around 3.8ghz I would say easily, maybe pushing it at 4.0ghz but overclock it above 3.5ghz run the game again and see if you get the same problem.

I haven't seen a post about you checking temps of your GPU and CPU? Did I miss them?

ok
i truly worship you guy's oc'd cpu
and as mentioned before, its not overheat problem, setup runs fine in SP as well as OTHER GAMES, and stuttering in MP only started after a few mins or for me the seconded map
if its related to insufficient compu power, cpu/gpu, switching to low res and least detail should have solved it, but no
frds with 980x is also getting it
so its probably a memory leak issue but not everyone's getting it, making the 'cause' uncertain
