Why do hagravens witches and forsworn mutilate animals?

In forsworn camps and hagraven/witch nests we always see maimed and mutilated animals. Why exactly do they do this? Is there any deeper answer besides "they just don't like animals"? Because these animals are ripped apart and put on spikes, this is more than forsworn just using them for food/skins.

the forsworn seem to be inspired partly by Paganism and early Celtic tribes..

as such, animal sacrifice is part of their religion, an act of worship
