Good day ladies and gentlemen,
I have created this topic for one reason and one reason alone, and if you've read the title, you would know what that reason is. I wish to share with the world, the cause of my loathing towards a species that exists within the Fallout Universe known as Ghouls. Perhaps this can remind Bigots why they are Bigots, and put things into perspective for Ghoul Lovers.
Before you read this, you should know, I am generally impartial in my conduct, and always enter every place with an open heart and mind. And I do not hate all Ghouls, and even the ones I hate, are not inherently because they are Ghouls. But because of their behavior and actions which I shall highlight shortly.
Let us start with the first Ghoul you meet in the game. Gob. Now, he seems nice enough at first, explains what he is, and if you choose to be okay with his condition, he even helps you out a bit. Good right? Sure, whatever. While speaking to Gob, you learn that he is from a place known as Underworld. He also continues to state how he has a family there and when his contract is up, he would like to perhaps return, obviously wishful thinking from his side. However, if you so chose to put an end to his contract by killing Moriarty, the Saloon Owner, instead of carrying on with this innocent desire, he shamelessly and selfishly takes over the Saloon to meet his own ends, and become rich. What happened to going back to Underworld? He wipes his tears with caps.
That is, assuming that zombie even has feelings.
Let us move on. The Ghouls have settled in a city called Underworld, this is where we shall meet most of our examples. Before we enter, we meet Willow, the guard to this place. She also seems nice enough at first. Upon speech, she seems nice aswell, if not a bit judging, but we missed something. Guard of Underworld you say? What gives her the right for that position? She must have proved herself in combat. Who would she fight though? She was raised in a city full of Ghouls. Does that mean she fought others? Not to be trusted, however I shall give her the benefit of the doubt. Moving on, we enter Underworld, this is the part where we shall have most of our discrimination. We are greeting by Winthrop, who kindly allows us to look around, trade, and sleep. But he immediately draws a distinction between us and them. We are smoothskins, they are Ghouls. We have passed no judgement so far, but they have told us. We aren't one of them, and they aren't one of us. Some say Ghouls are people too. How are we expected to believe that when they themselves don't?
Further down in this ghastly place, we find their Guard-Dog Cerberus. A likeable Mr. Gutsy. His dialogues prove to me the most refreshing and truthful in all of Underworld. He was programed to be "Pro-Ghoul" and state that Ghouls deserve equal rights and whatnot. But wasn't programed well, as he also mentions that he sick of the "Pansy zombie programming". Great fellow, he is. Lets enter the bar here. We find a Ghoul named Azkhural who want us to kill his competition so he can give us the contract to his employee Charon. If we chose to do this, Charon blows Azkhural to bits. Lets just ignore that. (You are also offered to simply pay for Charon, but that gives the same result). Then, moving further, we find another Ghouls who offers us to kill a bunch of 'bigots' for caps. He turns out to be a liar, and uses us for his own ends. I am being overwhelmed by their dishonesty now.
Finally, we see some light at the end of the tunnel, the only two good Ghouls in this settlement. Carol, and The Doctor. Carol is a very old Ghoul, and she explains the history of things. Neither does she whine about the discomfort of Ghoulification, nor does she resort to evil. Same goes for the Doctor, who is trying to find a cure for Ghoulification. Very admirable. Another notable good Ghoul is the one who is making Ultra-Jet, and their barber, but thats not what this is about is it?
Further away from Underworld there is Tenpenny Tower. A building which a rich business mogul claimed, and rents out to customers. In this tower, the citizens aren't the most compassionate, but they earned their way in all the same. Trying to enter this building is a Ghoul named Roy Phillips and his groupies. One of them is his girlfriend Bessie Lynn. Roy says he is willing to pay caps to enter the tower, but claims Tenpenny won't let him. How does he respond? I know! Lets kill them! This is his attitude. Tenpenny isn't trying to kill you, he simply doesn't wish to give you business, all business's have that right. He won't accept though. What do you want to do there anyway? You're perfectly well settled in the Metro. Nope, its not good enough. How selfish.
If we decide to help him in his campaign to enter Tenpenny Tower, the peaceful way, we work hard to convince each resident that it would be alright. They comply. Once the Ghouls are inside, they seem happy enough, but not a few days pass when you find that Roy Phillips has slain all the non-Ghoul residents. He explains that "they had it coming". No further explanation. When you question the seemingly sweet Bessie Lynn (who is a whiner, by the way) She also responds saying "They must have done something to deserve it". No comment. I have been deceived, and used, and betrayed. I am speechless.
Lets travel to Point Lookout now. We come across Desmond, a lonely Ghoul living in a mansion. His attitude is the only bad thing about him, and his condition doesn't seem to have brought him down in any other respect. But now we find Plik. His story is equivalent of cannibalism for us humans. He takes Feral Ghouls from other parts of the area, brings them into one, so humans may kill them. Like a game. Sickening.
There is also the case of a Ghoul who tries to sell a cure in Underworld, in the Broken Steel DLC. He actually sells regular water. (Radiated even) to them for caps. Can you imagine fooling your own people for money? Despicable.
Let us now come to a conclusion, Ghouls are all selfish, this is universal. They fall under two categories, whiners or murderers. And they will deceive you, given the chance, and the reason. They won't think twice about it. This has been proven. Now, I won't try and defend humans, I will say, they are just as bad, if not worse than Ghouls. But thats who we are, and we can't change that.
Hopefully, the above shall prove to you that Ghouls are vile creatures, and are not to be trusted. The reasons given above are the ones for which I despise Ghouls. If I have forgotten anything, please add it in yourself, and feel free to share your opinions, thoughts, comments. Etc. Please keep in-mind, this is not to offend any person Living, or dead, or in between. And is purely for entertainment purposes. Have a nice day!
