Why I Have Given Up With FOS

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 2:51 am

There are several things inherantly wrong with FOS but even more so since the update. Here is my personal Top Ten reasons why I have got to stop playing it.

  1. Damage from enemies affect everyone in the room.... so you are scrambling to heal everyone at once and because the game is such a pain to select the right character you end up with people falling dead because they keep running behind another friendly. Because the health bars drop SOOOOOOO darned fast and trying to select the right one that is nearly out of health is so hard that it's not so much a combat game as a REVIVE ME game now.

  2. Damage from enemies are WAY overpowered. Radroaches do nearly as much as Deathclaws it seems. They certainly do more damage than bandits.

  3. There is nothing in the Overseers toolkit to really defend against intruders. Where are the turrets. Why can't we lock doors. Why can't we barricade doors.

  4. When your dwellers are in the same room as the enemy WHY THE HELL DO THEY JUST KEEP RUNNING BACK AND FORWARD WITHOUT SHOOTING AT THE ENEMY. It's this as much as anything that makes the game frustrating as you try to heal them but they run behind someone else and you heal them instead.

  5. There is no pause button which would make life so much more simple. It would help when trying to issue orders for sure.

  6. When collecting the output from production rooms you can ,instead of getting the food, energy, water etc, you can repeatedly click on a character and open their stats instead of getting the goods from the room. This can be a real pain in the ass.

  7. Automatically zooming into events can be a pain in the asteroids. Why do we need to zoom in to see the 200th conception animation. When this happens you can be sure I am in the middle of moving another character and I end up dropping them in with the opposite six by accident and then it leads to more rugrats. I hate backseat drivers.

  8. Why can't you drop an Dweller onto an enemy to tell him to chase the enemy and kill him? It's a no-brainer imho.

  9. Why can't you drag groups of dwellers? Why is it one.... at..... a..... time..... that..... ends..... up..... like.... OOOOPS I DROPPED THAT GUY.... now where did he go?

  10. A lot of times when trying to scroll the screen I end up telling someone to swap rooms with another dweller. Where is the UNDO button?

The game had so much potential imho but these niggles turn what could have been a fun timewaster into a chore.

Note: These are my personal niggles... they might not affect you and that's fine...Some people are just masochists though heh.

Note 2: If you can read this... you are way too close to the screen!

Although I think Bethesda looked at this first mobile game as mostly a marketing gimmick, I think they are discovering the harsh reality of the mobile app space ... although there wasn't much depth or explanation, this game clearly was a mid-core strategy game ... for those who like that genre and are familiar with it there have been few issues with the game (other than the standard crashing and memory problems ... which have improved substantially since launch) ... for others less familiar with that genre who approached the game primarily as a sandbox game, where you could play around with it and there was no real strategy to the play, there have been problems as the changes have leveraged the strategy elements of the game ... I think Bethesda is also discovering that there are a lot more mobile gamers than PC/console gamers so the audience can be far more vocal about their displeasure with the product

Hopefully Bethesda will continue to support FOS until the launch of FO4 and add more features that enhance game play for the serious gamers and offer alternatives for the casual players who only want more of a sandbox mode

I agree as well with these, and I posted most of these and some of my own over in the Support Forum. Far too often I have to fight to pick someone up in the game. The game usually fights back by going "You want to scroll right?" I would rather click on the room they are stationed at, select them from a list and then click where I want them.

As for Bethesda's track record, I can't help but feel that they introduce interesting new concepts to their games, but screw up something about the first generation of their concept ideas. This is noted, but is not fixed until they come out with a sequel later. I hope they don't do something similar with FO4 and FS, as fixing the game people have already bought would be a much better prospect. As such I have withheld my pre-order for FO4 and will instead wait to see if there are any broken features that will or won't be addressed after launch.

As for FS, I don't think I'm buying a thing until something is done about the controls in the game.
