Why haven't Dogs been affected by the radiation

Post » Fri Mar 19, 2010 2:27 am

I'm just wondering because mostly every other animal got affected by the radiation, The Bloat Flies, Yao Guais, Mole Rats, Radscorpions, Mirelurks, Geckos, Ants, etc.

Ever seen a dog?

Well their skin looks like its been through hell and back. And possibly their behavior is changed too, remember, most dogs were house pets.

They live for years in Fallout (100+) and are torn up.

Such as Dogmeat.

I thought it was odd they have not changed much.

Every other animal has mutated a lot.

The dogs look normal and furry if they are kept by people.

In the wild they look mangy and insane.

I would have thought they would have horns or spikes at least.

Or long sabre tooth fangs.

A lot of dogs have a bald and ragged look; not as extreme as other animals, but still.

No. Dogmeat in Fallout 3 isn't the same dog as the one in Fallout 1. IIRC its canon that the first Dogmeat dies during FO1.

He does return in Fallout 2, but its in a joke encounter. He shows up in a cafe, along with several other characters who also died in FO1.

Who's to say they haven't? The dogs we've seen so far have not been mutated, but that doesn't mean that there are no mutated dogs at all.

He can still be recruited. It's like the Gatekeeper - it's canon if you do it. And Ian shows up, even though he didn't really die in canon F1, he just asked Vault Dweller to give him a glorious death in his memoirs.

ya, mange isnt hereditary, or a mutation.

lots of present day wild dogs have it.

perhaps the dogs in the fallout universe are the descendants of domesticated dogs that werent exposed to FEV and/or radiation (allowed in bunkers, vaults or in non bombed locales), and all dogs that were died off?

or perhaps the DNA of dogs simply doesnt lend itself to being bent by exposeure to radiation and/or FEV

See my other quote. They live for many more years then humans.

They dont. Dogmeat the First dies in FO1. In FO2 He comes from the death in a random encounter with other characters who died in FO1.

The one in FO3 could be a descendant, but is more than likely a legacy character.

The only dog to actually outlive a human in Fallout is Rex, who is a special case because he is a cyborg.

In loading screens in fallout 3 it said dogs escaped the nuclulear war without much radiation. or somthing like that

also if d.c dogs aren't mutated I doubt there are mutant mutated dogs
