Why haven't Dwarves been a playable race for all these years

Post » Tue Nov 29, 2011 2:02 am

the dwarves in skyrim arent really dwarves...like the name Dwe M E R already tells you they are an elfish race...and they are dead...the only knowing survivor was a dwemer in morrowind

I want to be a tiny bearded man :sadvaultboy:
(I'm actually looking for a lore reason, I know theres Drawven armors, but i've never seen a Dwarf)

this is getting old...

the DWEMER are not the "dwarves" you know... they're actually fairly tall, and they're elves.

they vanished ages ago before the games even started, they were never around for us to play as them, there was only one dwemer left, in morrowind, and he was bloated from the corprus disease, and he only had his upper body, the lower half was a multi-legged dwemer construct to get him around.

im sure there are more posts explaining this stuff, so i wont bother going into anymore detail.

Doesn't "Dwemer" mean deep elf, or elves of the deep?

Oh, of course. I'm a bit tired right now so I must have missed that, so sorry about that.

no worries. besides, my keyboard is messing up so a lot of letters were missing from my message. it was rather incoherent.

Arent they all dead but like one of them and any way if they made them super short it would require them to make a whole new little way of playing them like how they would run an jump attacks would be different and i cant see a dwarf out running a dragon  if their not strong enough to deal with the dragon

the dwemer or dwarves as the imperials referred to them as have unfortunatly been missing from nirn for quite some time. some say they're dead others say they ascended to a higher state of being like the daedra while others have even suggested that they became the golden skin of a gigantic mechanical man made god known as the numidium. also the dwemer were no shorter than any other tamrielic race they where also a race of elves.

Well the Dwemer did just randomly disappear...(I know there's a lore reason)
But it never said they died, they could be stuck in the Void or Aetherius or even trapped in a gap in time.
Who's to say another event like ie, The Warp in the West, couldn't just bring them back?

Dwarves randomly disappeared, right? If they come back, I want a damn good explanation that is lore friendly for it.

Game played before they disappeared? :D If new race was introduced, I would vote for man based dwarf rather than mer based dwemer. But I think their height would be problematic - consider how we don't get to set any character heights at all (not even within reason), and I expect it to be a reason for it. Would be very strong and high endurance, with a good cut into their speed.

The Dwarves of TES weren't dwarves at all. They were normal height, and were actually elves.

They were wiped out as a race when they became the golden flesh of Numidium. Their ghosts were able to be seen in the Tribunal expansion of Morrowind, and the last surviving one was also in Morrowind, in Divayth Fyr's Corprusarium. That's why they aren't playable.

My god this.

If TES came out tomorrow and said "We're adding a race of small, bearded, traditional fantasy dwarves that we're calling Tinys and injecting their entire lore into the one that already exists so just act like they've always been there" there isn't a single thing that anybody can do about it.

The level of obsession about the fake history of this fake world is mind-boggling and so irritating.

so anyone who voted at all?

Tolkien is the source of any game that represents dwarves as miners/short/bearded and with his books it actually make it seem real cause its bible pretty much so more people are at ease to use such.

Elder Scrolls is somewhat original not having em at all instead of elves which again is also part of Tolkien lore

Jesus, so many people still think TES dwarves are the cliche fantasy dwarves. You will all soon learn that beneath the beauty of Tamriel exists a lore so fascinating and confusing it boggles the mind.

Some things are better left alone. Ten playable races is plenty and having more whether it be Dwemer, Falmer, etc. would spoil some of the mystical feel that TES has worked to build for so long.

They are actually not extinct. People just look for short people and they are not short.

The dwermer got bored of living underground and moved to some nice green land in tamriel and live their happily, the sky god munkaloo turned them all pink skinned and they got new names. The really short ones left to live in new zealand and can be seen in peter jacksons movies. Though recently they refused to be involved in the latest film "The Hobbit" they were eventually pursuaded with the promise of mead, wenches and a big scary dragon called Sherlock Holmes.

The end.

That's because to a lot of people (including me) the lore is just as important as gameplay/graphics. It's what takes this series a level above most fantasy games.

Also, if Bethesda kept making major changes to lore when they felt like it no one would bother putting their time into learning it with no trust, making the whole thing pointless.

I don't think they would really be that bothered as a company if no-one learned the lore but carried on buying the games.

The people that wrote it might feel a little dejected though.

Would you be cool with GRRM suddenly declaring that all the people who died are actually still alive, that Jaime and Cersei aren't really siblings, and that Robert gave them his blessing before he retired to Essos to be with Daenerys? Lore is what keeps a world together, randomly changing it ruins the point of having it in the first place.

Or, if we're so obsessed with fake history, why are some others so obsessed with bringing in other fake histories (short Scottish dwarves)?

As much as I'm interested in seeing other races, I'm not sure how Beth would make them a viable option. The Dwemer are gone, and the only other race I can think of off the top of my head that would be marginally different would be the Maomer. Than again, how different and unique you can make use of elves of the sea would be finicky at best.

EDIT: As to how seriously people take the lore around here, well, its a part of it that makes the game for a lot of people. I'm not surprised and I'm all for it. Its nice to see people passionate and anolytic about it. It shows how much work in of itself goes into the series.

I know leave it to Bethesda to make tall dwarves, which are just tall elves with beards. How about some tiny giants, handsome trolls, and minotaurs with bull bodies and man heads?.. Oh wait because thats completely Fing pointless?... I just call them dwemer so as not to sully the good name of true dwarves.
