Why haven't sea monsters been used yet?

Post » Thu Dec 23, 2010 5:02 pm

With all the far-fetched stuff in the fallout universe I'm supprised and dissapointed that I have yet to be able to fight a sea monster. I don't expect to see this any time soon, but I would really like to row out into the middle of the pacific/atlantic/gulf of mexice and fight a sea monster. Obviously it should not be as simple as thowing up vats and gunning it down, but there are plenty of ways to go about make it quest worthy.

This idea really is that well thought out, but I just wanted to put the concept down somewhere.

Hmmmm seamonsters would be a reasonable idea as there is so much radiation. Great idea!

Maybe not rowing into the open ocean... but a large inland lake...
Maybe even the Hoover Dam reservoir. I could see that.

Fallout was to have http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Giant_Leech. Water creaters would be great to have in fallout. Something to attack me while swimming. In fallout 3 I just swim to most locations that are close to the water. It would have been good for Mirelurks to attack while swimming but they don't. So something in the water would be great.

In the fallout New Vegas form there is a topic on sea monsters/lake moster. For New Vegas and future games there should be water monsters. "Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water."

As long as I can fight back while being attacked in the water, why not.

Good point there. The whole being radiated thing bites but being helpless against a monster would just be too much.

I'm thinking killer cat-fish for inland and Giant Cuttlefish of Doom in the ocean.

The biggest sea-monster is the nine-headed hydra called Radiation.

I thought about this a lot. Hell, I was pissed that there were no reptilian, amphibian, or aquatic enemies in Point Lookout. It seems like only people, insects, arachnids, and generic mammals get mutant counterparts to serve as enemies in Fallout.

It is difficult to get the PC in to deep waters, although I suppose FO2 did manage this. However I could see getting aboard a large patched up boat to travel somewhere allowing for such an encounter.

Only if the sea monster is called "Nuked Whale" would I support its inclusion.

Such creatures would be doable in future Fallouts, consideration would have to be given as to which weapons function underwater and which do not. Past Fallouts were not really setup for maritime encounters, and trying to fight sea monsters from land would have been akward, at least it was akward in the isometric view post apocoylptic game Bad Blood.

Hmmm amphibian creatures... well, just make the Crab Mireluk family be able to fight underwater, add the Catfish Mireluk (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Giant_catfish) that was cut from the game but DOES exist in the Fallout universe, and Giant Leeches (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Giant_Leech). As for the oceanic variations of mutated creatures, well, I don't think that would be such a good idea UNLESS you had like a quest on some distant oil rig or secret underwater base. Just imagine, mutated seaguls, those already deformed fish of the deep which would now be EVEN MORE DEFORMED, mutated Sperm Whales... oh, someone also mentioned a rad kraken, yeah that would be cool :tops:

Maybe an underwater colony of bloodthirsty, man-sized sea monkeys?

I used to have a strange nightmare of swimming in a dark ocean with a monstrous moray eel closing in for a snack. If they had sea monsters it would be quite amazing.

if someone were to do something like stand on the side of a lake and then have a giant irradiated squid come out of the water and stand still and shoot radioactive muck kind of like the centaurs, that could be a cool little random encounter, i could really see that as something for Point Lookout. that or a random encounter where smaller radsquid monsters crawl out of the ocean and attack in groups of four, it would resemble something from cthulhu's little mythos yeah, but that would be awesome.

realistically i dont see much life ever existing in the water after a nuclear war, actually the nuke would vaporize the water down to the atmoic level, there would be no water. ever.

This weekend, I was playing The Pitt, and I heard a raider in Uptown mention that slaves that get past the guards might get attacked by the "river monster".
I'm not sure if this is real, because there is no monster in the river under the bridge. On the other hand, it could be in the northern river.
I think the dialogue was: "If any slaves get clear of town, there's still the river monster."

So far theres been very little reason to go into the water, apart from a few isolated examples. Even just being in the water is deadly enough, what with all that radiation. But its a good idea, I'd imagine being constantly in radiated water would make sea creatures even more mutated and deadly. A Radoctopus would be particularly nasty, they are ugly enough as it is :o

It really isnt though. radiation was incredibly inconsequential in Fallout 3. It should be deadly, but it just isnt.
