Nope, I would have to go through every single page. I removed quite a few but it's still full of posts that break rules.

Give "helbeards/spears/polearms a break for the night.. Like 12 hours or so and see if folks can calm down a bit.

Thrusting spears...

In order to continue, you'll have to realize that some have trouble discerning between an advantage in using a particular weapon (for instance, spears let you strike from slightly further away), and a weapon being unbalanced (for instance, Sonic's Final Smash in Brawl allowing you to kill almost everybody twice).

right but the fact that TES games are never multiplayer games kinda makes that arguement invalid. In Oblivion, mages who knew the parazlyze spell+ a destructiuon spell had a unfair advantage over warriors and thiefs. does it bother me? no. because i never had to fight them. the true advantages of the spear do not overpower other weapons (reach ). the CPUs in TES are easy kills. there will always be silly glithes that allow "people" to take advantage of the freedom TES gives you. this isn't COD, if someone wants to use unfair tactics to win, let them. they are harmless noobs in their own TES world.

I would like both. and any other peripheral weapons that are on the fence as well. I want as much as possible and i am not happy when they cut one for another.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you. Nothing the people of this forum call unbalanced or game-breaking really are, they just like being sensationalists.

I gotta disagree with you here... http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1174542-a-game-breaking-daggerfall-bug/ the bug also happens if a quests time runs out... so I'm pretty screwed...

I knew we would have some fun once Sleign showed up! :celebration: Now here's some fun little facts about spears!

Fun little fact about spears A: They had the lowest damage of all weapons and except for crossbows they were the weapons with fewest different materials.

Yes, I hear the "lowest damage" argument alot but the fact of the matter is just because you had lesser damage, spears were amazingly overpowered weapons. When you attacked, you not only did damage but you made an ultimate shield, the attack zone being between you and the enemy, not allowing a counter attack. That is the issues with spears that got them removed. With halberds, you swing, which swinging is a tried and true system that we know that works well, allowing for counter attacks.

Fun lttle fact about spears B: They removed moving backwards incredible speed so therefor they are not overpowered anymore (which they weren't in Morrowind!)

Doesn't require backpedaling to pull off the ultimate spearshield. I can stand still in Morrowind and still pull it off.

Fun little fact about spears D: In real life a spear would be a far better weapon than a sword. (How would you kill me if you can't reach me?)

Come at me with a spear and I'll use a sword and we will see who wins hehe. Swords are a far better weapon than spears, thus is why spears were all but phased out from combat except for perimeter defense while swords continued in use up until the first half of the 20th century. Spears can be easily circumvented plus swords have a very large range of motion being able to slash and stab, as opposed to spears only stabbing and only at range. Once someone passes the range of the tip in close combat, it's over for the spear wielder. Not to mention that the shaft of the spear makes a very large weak point when it can be grabbed. I wouldn't want to try to grab the blade of the sword.

Do you want any more fun little fact about spears or are you satisfied?

Interesting factoids. Glad to be discussing spears with you again, it's been awhile. One thing I don't get though is why bring up vikings? They weren't really a warrior caste known for their indominable fighting skills. Or maybe you meant it because it's Skyrim and it's based loosely on vikings.

We both have differing opinions on spears, I just say that they need to work on spears to bring them back to be balanced and apparently Bethesda agrees, since they removed them and aren't bringing them back at least in Skyrim. Maybe TES VI when they have time to balance them, but they have compromised at least by possibly giving other polearms to us. I'm never opposed to extra weapons in the game as long as they aren't ridiculously strong where if I use them I laugh at Alduin as I tear his eye out with it without taking any damage

Of course, once someone got inside the range of your spear, you'd be almost helpless while they carved you up with a shortsword/etc.

Not that nearly every game in existance has never satisfactorily dealt with weapon lengths before..... (like, say, sniper rifles in FPS's. Once someone gets close to you, it should be impossible to hit them. Since the end of your barrel's over their shoulder.)

re: more options = better.

Not always. I'd much rather have fewer options done well, than many options done poorly because there wasn't enough time/programmers/budget/whatever to spend on them.

edit: out of curiosity, I checked the Nexus. Considering how enthusiastic some people seem to be for spears, there's really not alot of spear mods.

Personally, I think this is a fantastic change. More differentiating between character builds is good news.

i would agree, but only if stealth characters have some sort of evasion perks . . . otherwise it sounds terribly unbalanced

stealth characters have lower health, less armor and dont carry shields, and now we have a lot slower backpedaling . . . oh and arrows are scarce . . . how on earth am i supposed to fight?

Well TES games have so many things like this... ever enchanted a weapon with paralyse for the exact time it takes to swing the weapon p+ half a second? Or making a paralyse for 1 sec on target spell in Ob? Or experiencing a weird bug in Daggerfall which do so that you won't loose mana for casting spells (no idea why it happened)?.. But spears weren't overpowered for people with 0 fatigue, a weak agility, and a skill level bellow 75... in Other Words me... and also since we can block whenever we please now spears would have a long recoil, leaving them worthless once an opponent have blocked your attack...

Doesn't require backpedaling to pull off the ultimate spearshield. I can stand still in Morrowind and still pull it off.

No you can't, a blunt spear attack in morrowind equals 1 point of damage (max)

That's completely unfair... barely have any hight...

Well yes vikings weren't warriors (but most people tend to belive that), they were simply skillfull traders with a different religion and because of the different religion the remaining world looked at them as barbarbariens... but when they raided they used boats, axes, warhammers, spears, and a few other weapons, swords where for noblemen and rich people only... but the reason I brought this up was (yes) because nords are loosely based on vikings...

We both have differing opinions on spears, I just say that they need to work on spears to bring them back to be balanced and apparently Bethesda agrees, since they removed them and aren't bringing them back at least in Skyrim. Maybe TES VI when they have time to balance them, but they have compromised at least by possibly giving other polearms to us.

we are still only 99% sure they're out... he coulda meant that there aren't a spear skill... or that the game won't just be spears... but yes they're mostlikely out... but as long as we have spears in the Argonia TES game I'll be happy...

Spears and Halberds are either overpowered (Like in Morrowind) or underpowered. Balancing them is very difficult and will most likely not come out right.

About Helbeards: not all of the forum-users are native English speaking.

When I want to say "Yes" in French I don't spell it "We"
