These arguments all have good points except one: The whole "age of the weapon" debate. Two reasons why it's a null point:
1. We can't assume weapon evolution is the same in this world as ours. The lore never speaks of the inventor(s) of arms or armor. It is entirely possible that people learned to craft swords and then decide to point a point on a stick instead of vice versa; that's just how it went down for real.
2. Comparing the age of weapons inside TES universe and ours oughtn't be made since Skyrim takes place over 200 years after Morrowind and Oblivion. Considering the presence (and relative abundance in the games they appear) of halberds, crossbows, full plate armor (not just lorica segmentata, the real s**t), and modern lutes (as present in Morrowind taverns), the time equivalent for II and IV to our time would be roughly 1300-1400 C.E. Add the 200 years, and with the help of basic math, one can see we'll be in the 1500-1600 range in V (not factoring in the possible advancements caused by communing with the gods or the intervention of magic). By this time not only are all the aforementioned arms and wares available, but arquebusiers, canons, and muskets will have either faced the field or are currently emerging.
Therefore, all arguments concerning weapon age are invalid.
