I never said they should remove it. Never said they should stop you from roleplaying as a gay/bi character (heck, I had a FNV character who ended up having a crush on Veronica because I thought it would be a interesting twist for her story). What I'm saying is that an RPG that forces some background elements on your character for the sake of having a more fleshed out story doesn't make it any less of an RPG.

I'm not quite ready to start flipping tables just yet. The cultural setting makes sense for having a beard. Or for having a 'man' if you're female. I will, however, start flipping tables if there's no option in game to let my freak flag fly high and true, the world's gone and my closet is nuclear ash. I want all the wang/vag. Bethesda seems to be a bit behind a lot of other devs in terms of same-six representation so here's to hoping they get with the times.

Personally I am disappointed over the fact I will have a set background. People are making the argument that Bethesda is making it like this to tell the story of a character. However, this is not the Witcher. It makes sense for the Witcher to have a backstory because that was always the intent of the developers from the start.

However in every Fallout game the developers has always made the story about ME. Yes they have me a vague background but in svery fallout game that background can apply to both gay and straight communities. As in, any one of us can go through these situations and behave the way we needed to.

The problem with having a heterosixual relationship is that they take that away from us, the LGBT community. People are saying "Oh you can just pretended" or "Oh it is the 50s so get over it. My problem with that is that if you are straight you don't need to make up reasons why you are straight. Straight people have relationships, straight people can get marrieds, and straight people can have babies. No matter what your feelings of that actually are, all of that can be explained away and you can make fallouts story about YOU, just like in every other fallout game.

I don't have a problem with the character being straight. People keep saying that this is a gay issue. It is not one at all, in fact I DO NOT want him/her to be gay either. I feel like what the LGBT community is miffed about is the fact that they given us all, gay or straight, a chance to be in this world and be ourselfs.

Now they have taken that away from a select group of poeple. Again I want to put empathize on the fact Fallout has always given us an opportunity to be who we wanted no mater the sixual orientation.

Now they made it so that striaght people can play like they use to in other fallout games without much explanation of the backstory. Where as gays have to come up with complicated and unnecessary reasons why we are married to a woman, why we where able to surpress our homosixual feelings and have a baby with her.

That is what we are miffed about. The fact that straight people have the freedom they want like in the other games. Where we as fay people have to work to explain why we should have freedom like we did in the other games.

In the end though, I do trust Bethesda. I will play this game no matter what. Hell, I even ordered the Pip boy edition. I just hope we are simply seeing a tibit of information. Maybe they will surprise us and this whole thing turns out to be another silly little worry that shouldn't of been worried about in the first place.

Yeah, just pretend. I certainly won't be playing as Mr 111, as a guy who came from before the Great War, I'll play whomever I want to play and just ignore anything that doesn't fit in with my head cannon and you should, and can to, simple as that.

I would rather Beth make the game that they want to make instead of peer pressure. However Set Background though is a bad idea for a number of reasons, not just the forced sixuality which you can still probably Roleplay.

We'll see what happens, set backgrounds always leads to less Roleplaying options so I'm hoping things are different but I don't expect them to be.

And I will too if I have to, I love fallout nothing will change that. Once again they gave us a vague background in the other games. The great war, vault 111, being in the wasteland can be applied to ANYONE. So it can be easy to ignore.

Being married, having a kid... that might not be so easy. Especially if throughout the game they remind you that you had a wife, kid, and that you straight.

Hell even having a kid can be explained because gat people have kids too. I just hope I am not repeatedly reminded that my WIFE is dead.

I just don't think it's fair we have to ignore anything where the other half doesn't have anything to ignore in the first place.

I'm not playing someone who is married or has a kid either, or who was in Vault or probably anything else Bethesda can come up with.

I mean I can kinda see your point after Skyrim but this game has, for whatever reason, decided to go for a more set in stone protagonist. It's not a gay rights question though in my book, just a poor decision choice that affects everyone who enjoys a more open narrative.

You seem to think this is a big deal for me wjere it's not. I am simply explaining my dissatisfaction of them going this direction. Dispite that, I do realize this game will still give me the freedom to be whoever I want.

If I can't be myself, I will be a mother who lost everything and has to start anew. Now THAT sounds like a great story.

I realize that the story can give me great pleasure no matter what. I am just mildly annoyed that they made it harder for the person in the story to be me ontop of the fact that it is the year 2077 on a wasteland.

As someone pointed out.. Guarantee you see your kid again. They said you're the sole survivor, but they put too much work into the family for it not to come back beyond the tutorial.

What if I want to roleplay as a person who refuses to go outside and would prefer to elect to remain inside the vault and restore it.

Possibly the most ridiculous thread I have ever had the misfortune of reading. The whole point of roleplaying is you make up what your character is and does.

But FO has never been set in the US. Our characters could be homosixual or Bi in other FO games..

I don't understand why you guys are defending being limited to what kind character you can be for some [censored] story none of us will remember or care about.

Because the author of every work of fiction gets to choose the characters and the story. That said, after you exit the vault, you can then choose to be whomever you want to be. You can view your PC as having made a mistake in the past for marrying when they never wanted to or you can view her as a surrogate Mother for the child you longed to have. (or sperm donor) You can make your story after that. But everyone no matter their sixual orientation would love a baby born to them regardless of the circumstances by which it was born.
