@Lady Selene: It wouldn't sell many copies at all, but Bethesda is trying to reach the largest customer base it can which is heterosixual. I wouldn't have a problem if the option to start in a same six relationship was provided, but as far as I can tell for now, that option is off the table. It just strikes me as a petty reason to not play and enjoy a game.

Maybe it isn't really even a true family.

Perhaps it is more railroaded than that, but based on what we have seen, we can't just assume we can't largely make up our own backstory.

They can, but people have to get over the fact that the only pre-determined thing about your character is the fact that he was married with a child before the one. That's it. Nothing else. Heck, we don't even know why he was married. If they're really they hung up on the fact, then they can just roleplay a homosixual who married before the war as it was normal thing to do then and being openly homosixual was frowned upon.

This for real. This is not Bioware, Mass Effect 4. It's getting old and redundant to keep seeing the same sixual orientation questions with every highly anticipated game that pops up. If it bothers you that much to be forced into a heterosixual relationship, just bypass the game and don't support it.

I'm not heterosixual, IRL or will be in the virtual world of Fallout. It's just less pain and misery (because prejudice and violence) to live with a man than a woman (unless you meet a man who treats you like dirt, but this one does not, hopefully) - how I will RP, before the bombs fell in a 1950's America. Now afterwards it's up to me to decide. No husband and I'm free to search the wasteland for the woman of my life. Or whatever, I most likely won't care about romance in the end. I will be to busy with killing raider, collecting things, making a better power armor, building houses, tell my dog to bite raiders, etc.

In short, you can make it work by using a little role playing.

The KID turns out to be the Sole Survivor of Vault 111, and is horrified when "Mom" or "Dad" show up and informs them they can't be his parent. His parents died in the Vault.... You are just an android, designed and created by the Institute and implanted with false memories to get close to the kid, who is now the leader of a prominent faction, for the Institute's own nefarious purposes.

But I don't think the player will turn out to be an android.

I do agree with you. I tire of people always wanting perfect political correctness. Boycotting Game of Thrones and The Witcher 3 and what not are ridiculous (although I haven't actually played The Witcher 3). I also agree with you that Bethesda does seem like a largely "clueless heterosixual" studio, but as a studio that CONSTANTLY CLAIMS to be 100% about player choice, create whatever character you want, yada yada I feel there is nothing wrong with criticizing their choices and expecting better. If they want to truly take their NPC interactions, stories, atmosphere, etc. into sophisticated, mature, well-written ways like they claim, they should include diverse characters! I'm pretty sure everyone knows some gay people and there are probably some at Bethesda, or do they live in a bubble?

You know, this would have been reversed if they had gone with a homosixual relationship as the default in the beginning. We would've seen a bunch of threads from people who would hate it and complain about the "gay agenda". The same way a bunch of people got offended when they found out male Shepard in ME3 could have a relationship with a dude who's romance was exclusive for mshep.

Hmm, good point. Honestly, I don't think I would ever be interested in having a homosixual PC, but really its not as if you are actually in the game as the protagonist.

Nice first post...I pretty much agree with everything you wrote...for the record, I think that is far better way to bring the PC into the game.

You can role play that the woman/man you live with, is actually your sister/Brother who has a child... they know you're gay, but they accept it.... So you live with them as a charade and have a gay lover that you meet in secret. When the bombs fell, you didn't have enough time to reach your lover and you ran with your "wife" and "child.

I bet 70% of them play gay female characters, though.

Honestly I think its part of the inevitable complaint about all the good ones being Married or straight.

Calling someone "ridiculous" is considered flaming, and going into a thread just to make sure everyone knows you don't care is also not productive. If it continues then warnings and suspensions will have to be handed out.
