Why isn't Skyrim immensely popular?

It's very popular here in Norway. Even my uncle is looking forward to it.

Lack of PR compared to other games.

Personally, I like how popular it has become. I was kind of mad at all the F3 band wagon that are planning to get off when Skyrim comes out, but I'm glad. I like TES tight fanbase of dedicated gamers, most of which are the veterans that KNOW what a good game is when they see it. Most of CoD boys= 12-15 y.o. where as TES=wide spread across many different ages. I wouldn't want it any other way. Rock on TES!

You must live in a dead zone where people are five years behind in newest video games, because Skyrim is pretty much on EVERY gamers mind. Every gamer who's a gamer will probably at least rent Skyrim.

I don't know many people who like it but my Gamestop said there was a large amount of preorders at my local Sac store so I guess it is popular in my city. :)

Mute @ all in the server (except those in my XBL party). Problem solved.

Sorry, that isn't the only reason I avoid those games. I forgot to mention they are overrated overly hyped pieces of fecal matter.

Oh God if all the CoD and Halo junkies showed up here i'd hang myself.

You forum goers are my family................. my sadistic, mean, sarcastic family.

So i think the TES popularity level is just fine.

Not sure what planet you're on or what rock you're living under, but Skyrim is insanely popular in my circles. This game is seriously the topic of the day when it comes to gaming.

At my school it's somewhat known. Not every kid knows about it, but a fair amount have at least heard about it. I think it has a more specific fanbase though, so not every average Joe likes it. And thank god, that means they haven't mainstreamed it to death.

How can anything really beat TES. You get to do whatever the hell you want, and moreover it requires some actual skill and tactics to survive and fight enemies.

Ummm it is immensely popular. Your friends must be living under a boulder or they are under 18. Any RPG fan of age is awaiting Skyrim with great interest, I assure you.

What, no? TES games have always been effortless. Thankfully, people seem to be able to look past that.

Skyrim is pretty popular, although here at the uni of Warwick people have expressed strong interest in it and yet I haven't come across anyone who's preordered it like myself.

All I have to say is you better pray Skyrim and it's following iterations in TES stay about as popular as they are now. Any drastic deviation will inevitably alter the game to a point where it's current fan-base will abandon it.

looking over the last eleven months of this forum makes me feel like that wouldn't be a bad thing.

RPGs are niche. open-world RPGs are even more niche. coupled with the fact that Bethesda's been pretty much mum since the trailer as far as marketing goes, i don't get why people would be surprised.

It would be a terrible thing, and I brought up because when a game loses the fanbase that birthed it, it wretches itself onto the floor and leaves only a broke shell behind.

I'm looking right at you Fable 2 and 3.

And the abomination that is the "kinect fable."

Maybe because not everyone likes same things?

I know a guy who claims that TES is totally stupid game for mindless people and can't understand how can someone play a game which doesn't have an end (he plays liner games which have standard beginning and end).
He also laughs at Skyrim story and claims that it's idiotic since 'How can a mere human, even though he has dragon blood in him, can fight of a dragon who is so large that he can eat world?'
He also claims that it's a game for pathetic people who don't have life so they have to live an imaginary one trough a video game (this is also his opinion on RPGs in general). >_>

It's really popular here, I live in a small town and my local Gamestop has over 250 pre orders for it. I would say that is pretty good seeing as they only have 300 for MW3.
