Why isn't Skyrim immensely popular?

Post » Sat Oct 15, 2011 9:12 pm

I notice RPG isn't in there.
You have your answer.

It's amazing popular here.

I was going to say that.
Skyrim is popular and if is not around you for some weird reason, it is your role to make it popular !!

it is far more popular with people 18 and over, Oblivion came out when most of us were just getting done with lord of the rings movies and such. and TES has been around for a while.

the gamers now can't even appreciate Halo for what it did to bring FPS to consoles and all they want is instant gratification in games like cod or gta...

thats why

That's what I meant by etc. The majority of them LOVE Rpgs, and are awaiting Guild Wars 2. But they don't know that Skyrim comes out the same month 0.0.

RPGs are not the big kid on the block.

Skyrim is huge in the RPG community.

I am also confident that as time comes closer, that we will start to see more hype spreading around, also if they did those teaser trailers like they did with Oblivion with the countdown. I know those alone drew a lot of new interest from people.

RPGs tend to have smaller, far more knowledgeable and passionate fanbases. Shooters tend to have enormously wide, but much more fickle short-term fanbases, who switch from one game to the next whenever a big new release comes out (which, for shooters, is every few months).

It's not quite as cut-and-dry as this, but it's sort of the same divide as between hardcoe and casual gamers.

Skyrim is immeasurably popular among people who care about games beyond their multiplayer capabilities. It's only next to the mega-brands like CoD or Warcraft that the game seems unpopular. It's like comparing Burger King to MacDonald's. MacDonald's is the world's most recognised brand, and next to it Burger King is miles behind in the number of people who prefer it - but there's still countless millions of Burger King fans.

I know A LOT of people that are getting it. A lot of my older friends, that is. All my friends my age are too stupid to play RPGs and just play CoD. I'm not kidding, one of my friends thought Fallout 3 was "super dumb" because it was "too complicated".

Sadly, in Mexico, Skyrim is not very popular, popular games here are Halo, Modern Warfare , FIFA, Zelda.

It was Game Informer's readers choice for most anticipated game of the year. GI is THE most popular gaming magazine. Skyrim is very popular.

well you did say grade, which implies an earlier level of school. I never described myself as a first grade college student.

I suppose I should'nt have put 10th grade, what I meant was Sophomore year. There really isn't a difference between them where I go.

I mean, I go to a school with over 60 gamers in my grade, and to my surprise, none of them know what Skyrim is. And I mean, they aren't just the COD players, they play a wide variety of Rtss, Fpss, MMOs, etc.
This is pretty shocking to me.

Don't be surprised. Since when can you depend on the masses to have good taste?

All I have to say is you better pray Skyrim and it's following iterations in TES stay about as popular as they are now. Any drastic deviation will inevitably alter the game to a point where it's current fan-base will abandon it.

It is extremely popular. Even by checking the view count on Youtube you can see how much attention Skyrim is getting. Although most of us watched the gameplay trailer 5-10 times :D . It doesn't matter Skyrim is one of the only True RPG games out there. It gathers all kinds of Rpg gamers and non Rpg gamers. I've been waiting so long after New Vegas for a proper Open World Rpg game and now there is just 26 days left!. Exciting stuff.

I'm quite disappointed that Skyrim isn't as popular as it is good.

Judging by the quantity of pre-orders, Skyrim seems to be quite popular.

As of October 8, there were nearly 900,000 pre-orders for Skyrim on PS3 and Xbox. This excludes PC retail and PC digital downloads. Across all platforms combined there have been probably well over 1 million pre-orders, comparable to games like Battlefield 3, which is only a couple of weeks from release date and http://games.ign.com/articles/120/1200238p1.html based on 1.5 million pre-orders.

And that's when those people say games like TES are for "nerds", just because they're too lazy/stupid/narrow-minded to get the scope and depth of those games. So the game and the fans must be bad, because it can't be themselves, can it? :)
