Why isn't Skyrim immensely popular?

This game could be bigger than most of the releases this holiday but they seem to have waay to little faith in it. We′re now 4-3 weeks from release and I′ve yet to see ANY ad for it on TV or even in magazines around here.
It′s almost like.. they wont release it on 11-11-11?

This game looks so damn amazing, I wish they would just show it to the public some more.

Whatever- while I still think they may delay it (you know, it′s Bethesda, they don′t know what they′re doing most of the time) the ads will probably show up a week before release and in the days/weeks following release. Rage marketing on a bigger scale seems like it has just kicked in.

You know, I meet more RPG gamers than FPS gamers around here (Eastern Netherlands). I like where I live. ;)

It's popular...
Even in Brazil! Imagine how popular it is in USA (Videogames are too expensive in Brazil, 100-200% more)
I know it, because I live here.

We don't have lots of videogame fans here... Really...
But whoever plays videogames is aware of Skyrim

To be fair, one of the appeals of games like Call of Duty is you can play a level and walk away. Get online, get some shots in, then go do something else.

I love Skyrim but a lot of people these days don't have the time it takes to really immerse themselves in the game. It's easy to say "oh, you can play for an hour or two" but you KNOW how addictive these games are :)

I think this game will be one of the most enjoyable games I will ever play, and honestly, I think that it will be one of the best games of all time. However, I'm quite disappointed that Skyrim isn't as popular as it is good.
Why aren't gamers across all genres talking about Skyrim?
I mean, I go to a school with over 60 gamers in my grade, and to my surprise, none of them know what Skyrim is. And I mean, they aren't just the COD players, they play a wide variety of Rtss, Fpss, MMOs, etc.
This is pretty shocking to me.

I don't know where you are referring to OP, but here in Kansas City, Missouri (U.S.) it's massively popular. Most every GameStop in the city is having a midnight release party for it. And have you been to any reputable video game review sites (such as GameInformer, Gamespot, Eurogamer, OXM, Playstation Magazine Online, etc.)? Now that we are at the 30 day mark, most all of these sites have another article about it every day.

Like someone else said, I notice in your list of game genres that RPG's aren't listed. Is it possible that they don't know about it because they simply aren't into RPG's? Before your witty rebuttal, MMO's are much different than a standard RPG, so MMO's don't really count.

I've got many friends on Xbox Live who won't shut up about Skyrim, and I am happy to fuel their crack-fiend-like discussions about it.

It is immensely popular, you are just talking to the wrong people.

That's what I meant by etc. The majority of them LOVE Rpgs, and are awaiting Guild Wars 2. But they don't know that Skyrim comes out the same month 0.0.

Guild Wars 2 is an MMORPG, not a single player RPG.

As said already in the thread, its quite popular.

The reason some kids might not like it, it has no in game chat. So no "noob" talk and all the silliness that comes with in game chat. Love not hearing or reading about Chuck Norris,Noobs, and why everyone else svcks but themselves. It gets old real fast.

I am a rare bird in I love both FPS and RPG type games. I go back to Wolfenstein, Quake, and DooM. Along with playing the original Zelda on a Commadore 64. That is why I had a stroke when I heard of Fallout 3. An open ended TES style world with the guns. I had discussed this very genre of FPSRPG back when Morrowind came out. I like games like COD and HALO, but they get to be too short and repetitive.

This is why I fell in love with TES with the Morrowind release......Reading the back of a disc case saying it was open ended and play the way you want as the character you want????? WTF??? I gotta buy this game. Now I am and always will be an avid TES fan. I wish they would put the original games before TES 3 on disc. I have found them but I can never get them to work on my PCs. Bethesda and Microsoft should find a way to atleast get them on 360 somehow. So I can experience TES even more.

And that's when those people say games like TES are for "nerds", just because they're too lazy/stupid/narrow-minded to get the scope and depth of those games. So the game and the fans must be bad, because it can't be themselves, can it? :)

I know, I get called a "nerd" when I talk about a game that isn't constant action and killing. I even tried showing the demo, right when the guy was walking down the path they called it "stupid".

They all like the boom boom shoot em up CoD and stuff.. Not that I don't, its just I prefer an RPG over a FPS anyday..

I'm confused by this topic...I thought most forumites didn't want the game to be popular so that it wouldn't get dumbed down anymore, and the devs would instead ceaselessly pander to the vocal minority of the fanbase. :whistling:

Considering it has about 800,000 console pre-orders so far (and about 60k preorders a week between the two consoles), that's pretty good considering it's not counting PC sales, digital sales, and day one purchases.

If that's not popular, I don't know what is.

Me too. My point exactly.

And I see many of you are claiming that it's popular in your region, I suppose it's because I live in TX :(

Its not as widely talked about here but the advlts sweep new elder scrolls games off the shelves like they're trying to get a crack fix. And I'm surprised too, considering I'm in Mississippi.

Judging by the quantity of pre-orders, Skyrim seems to be quite popular.

As of October 8, there were nearly 900,000 pre-orders for Skyrim on PS3 and Xbox. This excludes PC retail and PC digital downloads. Across all platforms combined there have been probably well over 1 million pre-orders, comparable to games like Battlefield 3, which is only a couple of weeks from release date.

Nice, thanks for the info. That's a lot of preorders!

TES would become the most popular gaming series of all time if using mods on consoles was possible. :D

Go to any Gamestop and really any video game store here in Tennessee and you'll get your fill of Skyrim advertising. And I may not be in school anymore but the gamers I do know are all looking very forward to it.
