Why isn't Skyrim immensely popular?

Post » Sat Oct 15, 2011 3:13 pm

Its quite simple, Kids like guns, find out about cod, beg they're mother to buy it for them, they get brainwashed, and I'm glad Skyrim isn't as popular, could you Imagine all of the CoD kids on these forums?

"MMMMAAAAAAAN Beth, nect elder scrols gam u mus put ak-47 and rocketlonchers!)

Urgh, totally agreed. I don't want codkids running around these forums...

The simple horror of that topic has left me in absolute fear for my sanity.

Just having to deal with immature people in general is a pain. Thankfully my circle of RPG fans I game with keeps to themselves and says absolutely nothing ill nor good of COD/GoW/FPS Gamers.

I have been playing RPGs since before the turn of the century and I did not know about Elder Scrolls until after Fallout 3 was released. I tried Oblivion and was not impressed with it. It is an OK game, but not good enough to get me excited about the next installment.

On the other hand, New Vegas gave me some hope for the next Fallout game. Hopefully Fallout 4 will not be TES with guns.

I was going to say that.
it is your role to make it popular !!
Go forth and spread the word of Todd.

RPGs are not the big kid on the block.
Bethesda open world games may very well be the top game genre one day.

It was Game Informer's readers choice for most anticipated game of the year. GI is THE most popular gaming magazine. Skyrim is very popular.

Number 1 rated game on xbox live.

It's very popular here but most users are going to buy it for PC because of mods. Role play gaming in italy has taken over the years the hardcoe route and most users found OB too casual for a hardcoe player, hence almost everyone is playing it with level scaling mods and such. We're basically a bunch of unpleasant elitists who repute OB no more than a tool to create a game. I don't know anyone who's going to buy Skyrim for console.

Well, most games typically work like..
They start advertising mostly cheaply, depending on their core fan demographics.
Then, toward launch, they start a marketing campaign that includes magazine and T.V Spots.
Although I feel like you might have a bad sample group of gamers there, in my experience Skyrim is immensely hyped at the moment.

i know loads of people that are excited for this.

I think this game will be one of the most enjoyable games I will ever play, and honestly, I think that it will be one of the best games of all time. However, I'm quite disappointed that Skyrim isn't as popular as it is good.
Why aren't gamers across all genres talking about Skyrim?
I mean, I go to a school with over 60 gamers in my grade, and to my surprise, none of them know what Skyrim is. And I mean, they aren't just the COD players, they play a wide variety of Rtss, Fpss, MMOs, etc.
This is pretty shocking to me.

They are, and it is already being held as the game of the year. So what game are you talking about?

You know what, I have noticed this in New York too. I mean, people know what Skyrim is, but they aren't even excited.

you just happen to be in school with 60 of the most sheltered gamers in the world, i guess?

seriously, PAX was... packed... with people who wanted to see and play skyrim, and there were huge lines of people at the skyrim food truck, wearing the skyrim helmet plushes, taking pictures with the truck, etc.

i recall seeing a topic made by someone mentioning his company was actually worried if the workers there would skip out of work just to play the game... which is strange to hear, but i guess it was true.

skyrim is extremely popular... hell, the people at IGNorant made that stupid "dark souls is better than skyrim" thing just to draw alot of people to their site, taking advantage of skyrim's popularity.

trust me, skyrim is plenty popular, and its going to sell extremely well... and all those gamers you goto school with will feel beyond foolish and like complete shut-ins for not knowing about it before hand.

I think the only thing keeping this game down is that it is an RPG and people are just generally not into them as much as your typical FPS.

Yesterday wandered into my nearest game store...and there, boldly placed in the middle of the store: huge Skyrim display. Asked how pre-orders were: well over 400. Think it is going to be immensely popular.
