Don't assign companions to specific tasks, they will auto change things they are doing regardless of what you want them to do.

It needs to be producing a surplus, so harvest/replant them a few times until you have ~20 of each, you should be good.

Yep.. as above, companions don't seem to enjoy the manual labor. You can assign them to defense and that's about it. I've never been able to assign codsworth or cuire any task.

You put up a settlement beacon or tell settlers from other camps to go to the camp you want them to.. then assign them. No idea what an assign cap is. If you have a huge amount of crops a settler will only do so many. .. Also, you need to harvest these things yourself. Yes, sometimes some food will show up in your workbench but you'll get a lot more by running around and picking it yourself.

Assign settlers to jobs you want them on permanently. You also need to be producing a surplus of food before it will collect in your workbench. Also be aware that if you have supply lines set up, your surplus in one settlement might be used in another thats deficient.

Most human companions seem to be ok with farming and guard duty most of the time. Codsworth though just likes to sit there being a lump in my game. As other people have already said the most reliable way to assign settlement duties is to make the nameless masses of settlers you have recruited perform the jobs.

soo i waited 24 hours with the reassign codsworth did and now no one is assigned to anything at all...

am i supposed to just o out to diamond city kidnap some random townsperson via knocking them unconscious and dragging their ass back to sanctuary just to get a vegetable farm going ?

all my settelers have names, its a new game and i haven done anything to attract randomly generated settlers to my "town"

Put up a beacon and get some settlers into Sanctuary, and assign them all a crop and a bed, and make sure you have 6 plants for every settler you assign to farming.

Then you will not have much of a surplus of anything. You need multiple settlers farming if you want a surplus to craft with.

Usually only takes a few minutes to get the first settler to show up, but after that you need to go do some other things and settlers will show up in time. Also, the higher your CHR the more settlers you can support (and the faster they show up).

It is 6 food worth of plants, not 6 plants.

OP: If you only have the folks from Concord, Assign one of them to the plants. Marcy is my favorite to get to do the heavy labor. But Jun, Stergess or Murphy will also work. Codsworth, as others have said, doesn't stay assigned and Preston isn't assignable until after being a Companion.

Also, it is a surplus of food. If you are only producing 6 or so food, you will not see any show up in your Workbench and you will have to pick it yourself. If you want to see a lot more food produced, you need to assign more people.

One or two people should show up relatively quickly. After that, it depends on the number of open beds, surplus food and water, overall happiness, etc. And Max Population is CHA+10.

i cant assign more people if the food isnt growing so i can plant more and shops arn't selling it either x.x

also Marcy became detached a single settler arrived i got them farming the vegtable things (in theory so what do i need to keep them assigned ? i put them on 2 corn 1 tato and 1 nut fruit and a bed i built specifically for them right next to the plants

Put the beds under a roof, they don't like being out in the open. Also, the Preston group will just do what they want, like companions, you really need settlers for what you want to do. And plant enough plants that every settler you have farming adds up to a total of 6 foods (I have forgot that a lot of plants are .5 food), you just need to assign the settler to 1 plant, they will automatically take care of enough plants to equal 6 food.

Some issues.. you have 6 people, but you only have 5 food being produced. You need at least 6 in order to just support the number of people in the settlement. You need much more being produced if you want to produce a surplus. You also need an assigned bed for every person in your settlement, so 2 beds is not going to be enough.

Also put beds under some roof. Old houses are OK for that. Beds under the roof makes inhabitants more satisfied and satisfaction level influence how effectively they grow food and collect scrap.

As said before, you need to produce more food (as displayed on the top of your screen) then there is human inhabitants in your settlement for surplus to be collected in the workbench. One settler can work plants worth 6 food. Mutfruit plant is worth 1 food, everything else is worth 0.5 food. That means you need 1 settler for 6 mutfruit plants or 12 corn plants. Or 2 mutfruit AND 8 corn (as an example of combination).

Robot inhabitants does not need beds, water or food. Only humanoid does.

Preston's group all can be assigned jobs all right. They will leave their job occasionally to "repair" the old house but that have no negative effect on their jobs. Only companions have some problems with assignments. Some work, some don't. I was newer able to successfully assign Codsworth to anything.

If one of the stat's is red then it's not enough. TBH I think you're trying to peak a bit early. To make a vegetable starch farm worth while you need about 10-12 settlers or your going to be producing about one can a day, it'd be quicker just going out and looking for scrap. I've got at least 6 farms of 10 -12 settlers and I think I'm getting about 10 cans a day.

Btw, you won't need that much vegetable starch early on anyway. For modifications of guns and armor you have access at that level, you will find enough adhesive and oil just by scavenging.

I ran into a problem where my water farm wasn't producing anything (300ish water at the time) and realized that my farm overflow wasn't reaching the work bench either. I looked online and others said to clear out everything in the AID tab and put it into another container....and it worked! It's a pain in the ass but it fixed the problem. Hope that helps.

If you're having trouble finding stuff to plant, there is a new glitch introduced in 1.3.

1) place crop

2) store crop

3) (this happens very fast) you will now have stored the crop, there will briefly be a phantom crop in its place. Store that (you will see crop name highlighted). This must be done very quickly or the Phantom will disappear.

I've gotten varying results, sometimes storing 5 crops, sometimes 30.

And remember, quick like a bunny.

they do the task you assign them to, not sure where you get this from, if you don't assign them some automatically do something but if you assign them tasks its what they do, if you assign them to defense thats what they will always do, if you assign them to crops thats what they do, if you assign them to the scrap stations thats what they do and for the op, you need some people i think, i donk't think codsworth works on crops, i've never seen him do that and i tried assigning him to crops, you need about a dozen to 14 of each crop, you can do more but each settler accounts for 6 crops, so you need like 4 or 5 people assigned to crops to make sure all the plants are producing, i usually have 14 of each, corn, mutfruit, tato then 10 carrots, 2 razorgrain, 2 of each kind of melons and thats my standard "loadout" for the castle and sanctuary and that assures i have enough for adhesive and overall food for the settlers, smaller settlements need less but if you want adhesive just plant a dozen to 15 of each, mutfruit, corn and tato, you'll need settlers to work on them and thats it, do that for each settlement and you'll have plenty of adehsive, you'll have hundreds and hundreds before you know it. but you need water also, so build industrial purifiers, i have 8 purifiers at the castle and 8 at sanctuary. and thats lots of water, hundreds of bottles every day.
