Why Jeanie May, why?

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 9:41 pm

First I would like to say I know this is just a game.

But one of the few times I felt bad betraying an npc, was when I found out Jeanie May sold Boone's wife to the legion. She was so nice, and she gave me a room at her hotel. A room I could stay in indefinitely for a mere 100 caps.

Another npc I felt bad betraying was Mr. House. I felt bad because he trusted me, and I betrayed that trust. Because of my my own blind ambition (I wanted to rule New Vegas).

Are there any npc's you've felt bad about betraying or killing? If so please share.

Well, as far as I can tell Boone's wife was a complete and total [censored], makes me wonder if she didn't deserve to be enslaved, might teach her to act like a proper human being.
Only thing I found 'evil' about Jeanie was that she knew that Boone's wife was pregnant and sold her anyway.

Anyway. I feel bad for Legion when I use their neutrality against them and end up killing them on my NCR playthroughs when I get to the fort.

Oh and I also feel bad for Meyer when I take over with the Legion cause I know he'll be killed whatever I do.

I've never really felt bad for killing anyone, with the exception of my current play through.
I have decided to slaughter everything and everyone that is on my path, which led me to kill everybody in Goodsprings. The poor people that saved my life, slaughtered.
Everybody in Novac. Boone didn't deserve that, or did he?
Cass in that NCR post, and all the other inhabitants, slaughtered.
The only one I've cared for is veronica, and it's because she's one of my favorite NPC's, and I made a decision to let her travel with me. That is, until I must destroy the BoS. :stare:

I was working for House and I was at the bit where I had to blow up the Hidden Valley bunker. I had Veronica with me, and I'd completed her quest and everything, so I trusted her as a companion, she saved my ass a bunch of times, gave me a heads up on many a Legionnaire assassin, etc. I blow up the place, she leaves, sad moment. Later on in the game, I find myself passing through the 188, and I see Veronica there, so I want to see what happens if I try and strike up a conversation. "Leave me alone." Well, that's a bummer. Then I notice the little boy under the bridge, and I get to talking with him. Then he gives me his forecast for "Here".

"Local, local, the here and now... little of interest.. things to buy, false hopes, and regrets watered down, washed down in dirty glasses. With regret comes a girl... smiling sad, brown robe, name Veronica, half here. Wraps her and her heart up like a pack, in the pack, a key, some say. Forecast: Cloudy, with a chance of friendship."

That was probably one of the sadder moments of my House playthrough. Well sort of, it turned into an Independent playthrough a short while afterwards.

She didn't just know. There's a clause in the contract promising her extra money because of it. She was actively trying to profit off selling the unborn child as well, and then pretending it was a raid rather than a sale that got Boone's wife taken...just so she could keep Boone forever up in the mouth of that dinosaur.

Boone's wife can't have been so [censored]y that life as a breeding slave is deserved. There's no amount of [censored]iness that deserves that.

On my first playthrough I was honestly suprised to find out that Jean sold Boone's wife over to the Legion. Was such a nice lady but I guess appearances can be deceiving

Why, because he wants revenge for somebody selling his wife? I dunno about you but if somebody sold my wife I'd kill them too.

Not just against Legion, he has a nut loose.
If not Legion then somebody else is gonna rub him the wrong way and he's gonna want to go 'hunting' them too.

My first time playing Fallout NV, I supported Cass and followed that path. This time, I let 'Mr. Evil' (the Van Graff brother) execute her at the Silver Rush when finishing the quest. Received tons of goodies, yet walked away feeling quite morally tarnished...

Boone's wife wasn't a bad person, she just wanted more for her husband. She was unsatisfied living a nomdic existance without a place to call their own where they could start their family. This is it, she was a good person and she was sold by a money hungry woman who was by definition, evil. I've always wondered if I kill Jeannie Mae but then find the note, what would happen.

Boone is a scarred man from witnessing a slaughter of innocent people and having to "save" his wife from a life of slavery. If you finish his quest line, he gets his act together. He needs some closure from some of the pain he has endured and caused.

Well I ain't gonna give him closure or help him get it.
Rather just burn a hole through his head and toss the sick bastard off of the Dino Byte Shop.

Carla was a b-tch, no doubt, but she didn't deserve to be sold into slavery..

Oh man, totally this. One of the reasons I don't actually get to the House ending all that often, despite often starting characters meaning with the intent of following House. :(

House is the one guy that i dont enjoy killing. Such a fontain of knowledge geetting wasted like that. I know there is no possible way but which that Caesar would make true allies.
But, as I said they have COMPLETELY different ways of looking at problems.

I enjoy killing Mr. House, but I don't enjoy killing Boone. His life has been harsh, and all he seeks is vengeance for his wife and unborn child. Mr. House is just fun to kill, especially when him and his entire machine turn to a pile of goop.

I always hated massacring the kings with the NCR squad. In reality tensions just built up and as a result of the NCR's lack of care or will to think the problem over they just killed them all.

I don't feel the least bit bad about leading Jeanie May to her doom. I do it every time. What she did was despicable, regardless of how much of a [censored] Carla was or a psycho Boone is.

I don't feel bad about betraying House, but killing him makes me feel bad. It seems like such a waste.

I also felt a little bad about blowing up the BoS bunker.

Right, forgot about the Kings. I always do the best that I can to keep them alive. I always have them start a war with the NCR in GI Blues when I'm doing Independent or House playthroughs, and make peace with them during NCR playthroughs. Legion playthroughs are a bit difficult to get around, so I usually just kill the King myself, as opposed to having them all get enslaved. The King's speech when you ask about the Kings really got me, and I tend to join the Kings in every playthrough, if only to wear the jacket and cavort around Freeside like a proper King - and leather jackets are just cool. So yeah, losing Veronica and killing the Kings, those are the two things I never like doing in New Vegas.

I always try to stay as true to 'me' as I can on my first run... Act as I would in the situation with the skill my character has. I had also decided to listen to all sides before truly joining anyone.

I saunter into Nipton under orders from a pale sniper when I see these jerks who tried to kill the good people of Goodspring all up on crucifixes. I think to myself... "Meh these Legion dudes don't mess around, finally a force doing something instead of complaining about orders.

As I walk up to town hall this guy walks out flanked by guards. Kinda epic...

Then I notice his... helmet. I duck behind a building, pull out my hunting rifle, and shoot the man between the eyes.

My shotgun, and a handful of stimpacks later I am wearing my new dog helmet... Then it dawns on me. I just killed a man for a hat. I did not think about the consequences. I just had to have that hat, and reacted without thinking. That really took me back for a bit.
