Why kill the Customization?

Post » Sat Jan 22, 2011 6:59 pm

Why is all the customization that make the Elder Scrolls series a unique ROLE PLAYING experience being removed? I was upset about the fact that Classes were being removed but said "Well... maybe it will turn out for the best...". But now I see Spell Crafting has been removed as well?!?!? Whats next Enchanting, Facial Customization, Races? I play the Elder Scrolls for the unique customization the game has given! Now it just feels like we are going to be "Generic Hero #182373". Why alienate the fans who have come to love the Elder Scrolls for its amazing customization by making the game more generic and cookie-cutter?

I loved when I could make my Demon Infused Wood Elf, Nez'Keth Val'Nekrazoth, The Deathbringer Sniper who used Demonic Infused Blood Magic! Such as "Nether Soul Devour" to drain the health of my enemy and force their soul into a prison within a Soul Shard! Now ill just be Nezketh Val'Nekrazoth the guy who uses a bow and some drain spells. What is there to make me "me" now? Do I really have to rely on the mod community to fix whats going to be killed? Do they have to bring the "Role Playing" back to the "role playing game" franchise that is the Elder Scrolls?

I by no means am trying to speak for everyone either. But I can promise there is a large group of players like me who have made up your fan base for years. Fans who feel like we are getting shafted for no real reason... I do not want to see the Elder Scrolls slip into the role of just another mediocre RPG...

Classes actually didn't add to customization much. But I do think a lot of cusomtization had been taken out, with regards to the spell crafting, if it's really out, I mean that was half the fun of playing a mage >.<, it's an RPG we wanna create our own stuff.Secondly If we see the same lackluster amount of armor slots in this game as was in oblivion, it also takes greatly away from customization

Well, it seems that way so far, but I'll withhold my final judgement until every bit of info has been released concerning it.

But yeah. I'm not really too happy with Skyrim right now.

Oh. And I didn't care much for classes either. Only thing I really liked was the title it gave me, but I didn't like being limited to a certain number of skills in order to level up.

Yeah, I heard they're taking out character customization, and you can't name your character anymore, and you have to pick Nord, and you can only wear one armor for the whole game and only one weapon, a sword. Ignore any comments that the developers make about making the series more customizable and more character-specific and making it possible for you to play the type of character you want, that's all false and not true. There's just one quest where you kill a dragon and win.

Yep. That's Skyrim for ya. Woop woop.

I voted no because customization is not being removed, it's being implemented differently.

I don't like the fact that alot of features that made MY character different from others are being cut. but there is never a lack of customization in TES the CS (and the KIT) always make sure that game play is unlimited through and through.

also, there is going to be loads more physical customization to the character creation (or moderate as devs for all game studios seem to over state their claims)

People are just afraid of change. They think that anything different than Morrowind will be horrible and they also think that they deserve something for some reason.

This. I anything classes killed customization and role-playing. To be good you HAD to not use your class skills. Secondly, you will now be able to specialize without having to worry about that crap. The only thing missing is naming your class. And honestly that's not really a big deal. Believe me, the removal of classes in Elder Scrolls is a good thing. Mainly because Elder Scrolls is awesome and never says "Okay, you picked mage. You can only do mage stuff" like a lot of RPG's. Classes never really mattered. As for spell-making we don't know if that's in or out. And if they can implement on the fly spell-combination like they want too it would be pointless anyway.

There are still 10 races, many skills, there is even DEEPER customization in terms of decals. I'm not worried one bit.

Personally i think we'll have more customization in this than we've ever had.
From what we know already it sounds like that,be it combat, skills, magic, our appearance etc.
I have no problem with it so far....and there is way more to come yet.

We should set up camp, and segregate those people from our community.

If it's a better realised world to role play in, with economies, afull set of guilds, and better AI ( guards, I'm talking to you ), then you can keep your 3 skills and your spell making.

I never really considered the series to have classes to begin with. What you name your profession based on your skills is irrelevant. What should be relevant isn't what you pick at the beginning, but how you play your character. Like Ultima Online; You don't pick a class. Well... You CAN, but it's just like TES in a sense: your skills only raise based on usage. You could create your character as a Warrior and start with higher fighting skills, but then play as a mage and have your initial fighting skills diminish while your magical abilities get stronger.

I'm really excited about the leveling system, so I'll vote no.

On the other hand, I damn well hate that they've taken out spellcrafting. It's the biggest pile since Tails couldn't fly in Sonic 2.

This time it will be different, though. I'm sure of it. The console players did it. The enemy has won and we have been destroyed. :sadvaultboy:

Wait a minute. Is that a Fallout emoticon? Bethesda, please just announce Fallout 4 and I will be happy... until the next day when I start worrying that the game will be horrible.

It's not a rehash, therefore everything good about the game is gone and the customization is devoid!

...Or it's just different, and if anything just as deep. Plus in terms of visual customization we'll have plenty more than we did before!
