Why LASER weapons are so unrealistic in Fallout?

Post » Tue Mar 22, 2016 6:45 pm

If by hand held you mean "man portable" and by prototype you mean "completely impractical" then maybe. Otherwise I'm calling Shenanigans

It's laser weapons for soldiers holding in their hands.

It is not shenanigans since the United States Government spends hundreds of millions of dollars (USD) or billions of dollars (USD) in Research and Development (R&D) of taxpayers money for handheld laser weapons.

There is so much more that the United States military knows that they are keeping secret from us. The United States military with what they show us they always have something that is 20 years ahead more advanced or even 40 years ahead more advanced.

That tinfoil hat looks good on you.

I served, I even achieved a respectable rank before I decided to move on to the 1stCivDiv. I have friends still in and we on occasion still talk about the state of affairs in the military.

I've never heard anything of a practical hand held laser weapon, and anyone that does know isn't posting that crap on a gaming forum. Which means you've got nothing but speculation. Trust me if we had junk 40 years ahead of time I'd have used it.

You wouldn't be saying it if you did use it because your not allowed to disclose military secrets at all. Unless you want to be tried for treason.

Ballowers, are you drunk?

My uncle works for a company that manufactures war machines (Ships and Tanks mainly) and i can assure you that the only laser weapons are mounted on large warships, there are currently 3 in service, 2 on US warships and one on a british one.

Know how much one of them costs? £100 Million+

What about that website article I posted on uh page 1 I think?

Do you honestly believe service members would give out secrets of new technology they know about?

That is a laser cannon, i would like to see you carry that in your pocket.

Britain and America have both said that they are researching laser weaponry, there are no secrets.

Now put down your tin foil hat please.

Are you simply telling me the U.S. Government is not spending taxpayers money on Research and Development (R&D) for hand held laser weapons to become a reality?

I know it's not a secret, but what they are trying to develop or what they are succeeding is a secret.

I just said they are, and so are Britain, and they are openly stating it.

No secrets, no conspiracies.

Honestly, are you drunk?

Ok here is my question.

Do you think it's impossible for hand held laser weapons to exist?

I mean in 2016 we conducted gravitational waves experiments which proves Albert Einsteins theory from 1916 that they exist.

No, i don't, but they don't exist yet, and probably won't for a long time.

They already are using laser cannons in combat.

Microwave weaponry also exists but it is illegal.

Ok there it is. You answered my question. I didn't even say they exist yet.

All I said is that the U.S. Government is doing Research and Development (R&D) to make them exist one day.

All the military programs though they don't TELL you EVERYTHING that they are doing.

And they also have laser weapons on airplanes to blow up missiles.

The ones on planes are missile deterrents, they have existed for years, laser WEAPONS though, they are very new.

They don't have the battery tech for them to exist yet. If they did, they'd have already been using those batteries for powering other things.

That's why I also said that the United States Department of Energy has achieves a huge breakthrough in batteries.

For now it's for large scale use for grids for cities, but there is hope for small use as in smart phones and with new chemicals and materials that can be better than lithium ion.

The next 20 years should be interesting for advancements in batteries and laser weaponry.

Nobody says they can be used as weapons, they are nowhere near powerful enough to do significant harm to anything more than a missile, i know this, my uncle works for BAE

Ok your uncle may work for BAE, but I live a 15 minute drive from my house is a Air Force base and a grocery store I go to has Air Force service members who come in from time to time and a few of them in the last four years tell me this.

I don't know why they tell me, maybe their oaths that their sworn in? I don't know.

American military is different from British military? Cultural differences? I don't know.

Make what you will of it, but that is what I'm told by them.

Sounds like they are winding you up.

There is a military guy who goes into a shop near me, he is always telling things like this to the staff to wind them up.

Wind them up for what? To get me to ask more questions about secret military programs? To make me mad?

why are we arguing over the 'realism' of FICTIONAL laser weapons in a FICTIONAL post-apocalyptic setting? With things like portable nuclear arms, power (something like robotic) armor, mutated monsters, this is a problem? priorities, huh.
