Why I live in Alchemists shack, and why YOU should too...

Don't you get creeped out at night? You know, having a bloodthirsty demon that lives in your basemant and raqes people and turns them into vile cannibals is kind of unnerving for some...

Errr...kinda  But my character is a vampire, so a shrine to Molag Bal feels like an essential home accessory. :)

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Nilheim

It's a stone's throw from Ivarstead and once you clear it of the bandits then it's safe and has 2 chests which don't respawn. It's open, has bedrolls to sleep and a wood chopping block, but the best part is the http://images.uesp.net/1/1a/SR-place-Nilheim.jpg. YOU should live there

Oh and I hate to burst your bubble but according to UESP, the Alchemists Shack isn't safe: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Category:Skyrim-Places-Safe

If you visit it frequently then you need not worry but stay away longer then a week and you might be mad.

Anise's cabin is better and it has an enchanting table as well as an alchemy lab.

I prefer Anis' Cabin near Riverwood. That way, at least you have access to nearby shops and a smith.

I stopped using actual "player homes" last year. I used to find dungeons that don't respawn, like Ustengrav.

Now, I set up shop anywhere the given character likes. It doesn't matter if it respawns or not. I use a couple of mods that allows me to craft all kinds of containers and even pick up and pack crafting stations as well as furniture and even purchase banners and decor for a place.

The USEP lists all areas that are safe and do not respawn. As well as all the types of containers that are safe no matter if the cell respawns or not.

Everything but the barrels/sacks should be safe, example: The dressers and nightstands.

True but isn't the bed owned? I won't stay anywhere that I can't sleep.

I am quite comfortable in Valthume, but thank you for the offer. Indeed, that house is a much more appealing place than most homes constructed in the "nordic" "cities" of today.

One of the noble Altmer living in a shack? That's why it's so good to live amongst humans, you just don't find humour like this in the Isles.

I think its time you put those loyal followers of yours to work. Your home is ruined! Stone everywhere!

Well, it really only matters if you need to sleep, like with Basic Needs mods that require occasional sleep. If you have that, you can really just set everything in the entire cabin to be owned by you. If not, it doesn't really matter.

The end table in Alchemists shack is 100% safe... I have been using it with all my characters and it was listed on UESP, no idea why it was taken down.

But GJ on NIlheim, I'll have to check that one out.

Fixed months ago.

Never thought of actually setting up shop there. Always used player homes.

Yeah, this house always reminded me of my home in Bruma. <3 Ah, good times...

Anise's Cabin was my Rangers home for a while. It's perfect. I set up shop there until I received a letter from the Jarl of Falkreath regarding some real estate up for sale.

It wasn't taken down from the "Safe Places" list. It was never on there, as the cell respawns. However, the end table is safe because it is... an end table. Just one of the many "http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Containers#Safe_Containers" throughout the gameworld that never respawns, no matter if the cell does or not.
