Why do so many people hate Twilight?

Post » Tue Apr 29, 2014 3:30 pm

First of all I'm a vampire fan, have been since childhoold. My favorite movie is interview with the vampire. My favorite books is the vampire lestat. I always play a vampire in Skyrim and The Sims 3, and whatever other games allows it. My profile pic is my vampire from Skyrim....and I love the Twilight movies. I own the first three. Although these movies can't top Interview with the Vampire, no vampire movie I've seen since has, in my opinion. I still watch that movie atleast once a year. I own the original VHS version.

Because many people are outside of the target demographic.

I like the role that immortal monsters can play in fiction as well. I just didn't particularly like the story surrounding the vampires in those films.

Because the writing is garbage, and the fan base is absolutely terrible.

Mostly I hate Twilight (and almost all modern representations of vampires) because it doesn't stick with what vampires truly were about: being creepy, evil, unholy, immortal beings that kill indiscriminately. And don't forget the castles, moats, and chains. :D

I'm sorry but, vampires that can walk out into the sun without bursting into flames? What??? Sparkles? Drinking animal blood? Pleeeeeease.

Because shows like Tru-Blood and things like Twilight are awful. Vampires have gone from this dark and sinister creatures to cosmopolitan (Let's just say its another word for kitty cats) with zero scare appeal or any levels of badass.

Because the cast is absolutely horrid at acting (movie wise), the writing is rubbish, and the entire concept of these metrosixual vampires that glitter in the sunshine is so unappealing it could make me heave twice. Puking a second time just from thinking about it.

I think you guys are more than alittle too critical.....and vampires don't have to be "evil".....ever read any of the books from Anne Rice? Marious wasn't evil, in fact he only fed from evil doers...and some of the vampires in those books could walk in the sun, though chose not to. Dracula could walk in the sun. Personally, I like the way vampires are depicted today....and Tru Blood is awesome! Eric is hot!...too bad he cut his hair, though.

Damn straight. People that like those shows need to go watch Nosferatu. THEN they'll see what vampires really are supposed to be.

This ^ also Vampire aren't some love pixie they're demons of the night who prey on victims blood to maintain their "life". Honestly can you see Simon Belmont from Castlevania series battling a Twilight vampire . Also the main character Bella is the worst female lead in movie history....here I'll let the Nostalgia Critic explain it----> http://youtu.be/o4uxoBQxxQs .

I just ignore it. Even if one isn't fond of the premise, I see no reason to get upset over it. Truth be told, "classic" vampires already deviate heavily from the original myths and lore. True, Twilight vampires come off as more like faeries than vampires, my meager knowledge of European folklore tells me that if anything, that makes them more disturbing and threatening.

And I admittedly know very little, but I believe that even in the Twilight-verse, most vampires are not as discreet as the Cullens when it comes to feeding.

Because twilight isn't about vampires. It's about lovey dovey tween's in some kind of strange relationship that happens to include vampires. At least, that's my reason.

Vampires are hunters of the night. They feed on blood and other's life-force, predators. There supposed to be morally ambiguous at best.

I read the first book, and my issue with it is that it's written like complete garbage. I can appreciate why someone might like the story, even if I think it's terrible and insulting, but the writing itself looks like that of someone who didn't graduate high school. The movies themselves are really badly acted, and have (in my opinion) the same issues with the story itself. Additionally, the 2nd movie was so unbelievably boring, and the ending to the last movie was so atrocious (nothing actually happens). It's unfortunate, because I saw the first movie when it came out, didn't think it was really that bad, and thought that the rest of the movies actually had some potential. The movies went downhill quickly after the first, and I never read any of the books after the first.

I remember someone accurately summarised Twilight in a single sentence once by saying Twilight's a story about an angsty teen's choice between necrophilia and bestiality.

Vampires drink Human Blood. They either turn their victim into another Vampire, or kill them. Sounds pretty "evil" to me. The again, you have these new metro-sixual Vampires so all the kids can identify with them better.

Vampires are based on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vlad_the_Impaler, an old Wallachian Noble that got his reputation by impaling his defeated foes. Dracula comes from his family name.

Some variation on some myths and legends I can handle. Twilight (along with Tru-Blood) goes way too far and totally misses the whole point of what Vampires were.
