It would ruin the game if there was a mount that you didn't have to use? Plus, there was the Highwayman in FO2.

The highwayman just made fast travel faster (and acted as a moving footlocker), it didn't have as huge effect as adding a mount in FO3 would

Where would they get the fuel? Most sources seem to indicate that fuels like gas and diesel would last a maximum of 2 years before going bad. Even if they had oil, who would know how to turn refine it? I know some vehicles are nuclear powered. However, who knows how to repair them? If a nuclear exchange occurred then there probably wouldn't be many people with that knowledge around.

There arent many, but we know there are some, like Smitty in Den.

Walking must be hard for some in a game, all that time spent exploring, seeing a huge game world that the developers have made and all some want to do is rush around super fast and not see any of it.

I never used horses in Oblivion, I walked everywhere and once I found plenty of places, I used fast travel or just walked there. So much to see in games like Fallout and Oblivion, why rush?

Nuff Said.

I agree 100% that walking everywhere forces you to see alot more, and I enjoy that Alot. :)

As for capability, for the record, the engine can Most Certainly handle horses. Agent_c was correct in that this is the same engine as Oblivion, now upgraded twice from those days. The lack of horses in the Fallout games is a Choice by the devs, not a limitation of the engine. Cars are different, but horses are definitely supported if you have the models, sounds and animations to do it.

NCR has Trains, how about that? :P

And there are chances of finding some old cars that still work out there, like a Highway man from FO2. With a game like New Vegas though, you're MEANT to walk/run/jog, the entire map was made so that running around would make you feel the distance.

If the game was map-based like FO1/2, then you can definitely have a vehicle around, no reason why they shouldn't give you one.

*FIX*

Do you think mounts or fast methods of travel will allow you to walk and see anything? They obviously made it so we can see all of it, so why have mounts, so you won't discover as much as you're supposed to?

I think not.

Mounts and the Gamebryo engine aren't exactly a winning combination, be glad there aren't any.

Indeed. And just imagine how the threads will be after the game releases, with the constant complaints. :shakehead:

Back on topic, what everyone else said before me applies.

- Just wouldn't fit the game
- Gamebryo + Mounts = HELL NO
- Walking allows you to discover more
- And if you really want to get somewhere faster, that's why there's fast travel

And if you really want a mount so bad, then I suppose you can wait until somebody ports http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3104 over to New Vegas.

Hrm..a mount would be possible as far as lore is concerned. A diesel engine can use just 'bout anything for fuel, and gasoline ones will run on alcohol which can be grown, so it's not like fuel is hard to come by. a dune buggy or motorcycle would be feasible to build.

Obsidian didn't give us one for two reasons. One: Game world is too small. Two: Game engine doesn't agree with high-speed transit as it is. Anyone using one of the various flying machine mods for FO3 can attest to that. I've out-flown the game's ability to load terrain and crashed it with my jetpack.

And if you really want a mount so bad, then I suppose you can wait until somebody ports http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3104 over to New Vegas.

Have to wait for a mod to get a car.

(I hope to complete this one for NV soon after release ~but no guarantees)

Hah, that's actually pretty slick. I've never tried any of the FO3 vehicle mods, mounts in Oblivion were pretty gawdawful though. I never used any (except the Magic Carpet from Midas Magic, that one was all right except for the sound).

Just as I keep stating, vehicles = bland game environment. RDR came out and proved me right. Besides the towns and quests there was almost nowhere to explore in between. Glad there aren't any.

I totally agree. The deserts in RDR were very boring with nothing to keep you intererested. On a vehicle, you would most likely drive by everything (depending on player, of course).
