Why not?

Given the rubble, rocks, and limited fuel, not as useful as you might think...

Go play Fallen Earth. Mounts would be a huge change to the playstyle of the game.

Just as I keep stating, vehicles = bland game environment. RDR came out and proved me right. Besides the towns and quests there was almost nowhere to explore in between. Glad there aren't any.

I ate all the horses and slashed every tire in America. You are very welcome.

But seriously? Because we have fast travel most likely.

In Oblivion, most of the terrain was usually flat, or at least somewhat even. That, and the fact that it was set in the middle ages made horses viable. However, at least IN FO3, the terrain was usually craggy and uneven, making the addition of Horses/Bikes somewhat problematic, and the fact that it was set in the future, where horses would be even more scarce that today, and the knowledge of making Motorcycles would be long lost. That said, I'm sure that there will be a mod that adds horses to the game shortly.

That was the most common responce when the topic of "there should be cars or mounts" came up.

Walking must be hard for some in a game, all that time spent exploring, seeing a huge game world that the developers have made and all some want to do is rush around super fast and not see any of it.

I never used horses in Oblivion, I walked everywhere and once I found plenty of places, I used fast travel or just walked there. So much to see in games like Fallout and Oblivion, why rush?

It would ruin the game if there was a mount that you didn't have to use? Plus, there was the Highwayman in FO2.
But, I don't want a mount, I find wandering the wastes on foot, exploring every nook and cranny, makes the game much more interesting and worth-while.

All mounts would cause is less exploration. You would drive fast to exactly where you want to go instead of exploring around a little. Also this would be stupid as far as the Fallout world is.

You should get a Mad Max-style helicopter when you're done exploring everything on foot. (in a DLC perhaps)

Like posters above me already indicated: Because it wouldn't add a whole lot to the game. It's more fun to roam around on foot.

To illustrate my point, I point to Borderlands: The novelty of running over bad guys in your dune buggy quickly wore off very fast, and I usually found myself deliberately EXITING the vehicle to engage in combat.

I'd love mounts if done right.
But with this engine, no thanks.
Holding my thumbs for Fallout 4.

Gyrocopter? The engine couldn't handle that, well I guess it could, to a point. You'd most likely have to be stuck at one elevation the whole time, but I'd imagine it being extremely buggy. Extremely Unlikely.

Where would they get the fuel? Most sources seem to indicate that fuels like gas and diesel would last a maximum of 2 years before going bad. Even if they had oil, who would know how to turn refine it? I know some vehicles are nuclear powered. However, who knows how to repair them? If a nuclear exchange occurred then there probably wouldn't be many people with that knowledge around. Even if they did survive, repairing motor vehicles would not be their priority.

Does anyone know how long non-radioactive metals like steel and aluminum would remain radioactive after being exposed to radiation?

It's true by 2077 fossil fuels were used up but maybe someone will discover ethanol but that's a topic for when FO4 threads get started.

From what I remember if you have a high enough rep with the NCR you can take a train directly to their base. How that happens or where it is a mystery to me :ninja:
