Why so much animosity towards Bosmer?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 8:12 pm

I have noticed that many people on the forum have invidious feelings towards the Bosmer, and I do not understand why. I have always thought they were pretty cool, I will admit, many of the annoying characters were Bosmer, but in general, I do not see the problem. Can someone please explain?

I'm pretty sure this question has already been asked hundereds of times. Read http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:A_Dance_in_Fire to learn a little about the race and their quirks. Also it comes from the irritating voices they have and a character called http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Fargoth.

It's the annoying characters that do it.
They're actually a pretty cool race, lore-wise and in-game. Well, I like them, and all mer.

I have nothing against the Bosmer, though I don't like how they didn't have their horns or black eyes in Oblivion.

When bosmer get a high disposition, they say "I have the feeling you and I are getting very close" or something like that. And since fargoth get 80+ in disp if you give him his ring, he will most often say that... And young boys are not known for being secure in themselves

I like bosmer. Although I haven't played that many characters that were wood elves, they are cool and lethal archers.

I like the Oblivion version the most, but I just can't play a Bosmer after learning that they're cannibals. Of course I could always bea non-cannibalistic Bosmer. Hmmm....

Because he thinks that he and you can become very close... :hubbahubba:

It's not just the text but how the actor voiced the line too, he sounds like a creepy peado or something.

I like them, and find them far easier to enjoy than the Altmer. Give me an "I feel you and I are going to become very close." to a "I hope this won't take too much of my time, outlander." any day.

As for the cannibal thing...what's worse, the mere eating of their dead as a respect issue, or that other Dunmer "quirk" that the woman in Oblivion skirts in conversation with her "let's just say this wouldn't be the first offense..", (parap). Eat the dead, or shag them? I'll take the barbecue for 200 Alex.

It also seems as if Beth wants Bosmers to be hated. I mean it is not only Fargoth, but also Geanor, the adoring fan and the one in Skingrad (forgot his name).

His name was Glarthir.

And it is just in their tribal customs to eat their dead, Latin American's also do that (of course, the minority does, but you don't see Bosmer in Cyrodil and Morrowind eating each other).

It's not our fault, it's Bethesda's. They seem to go out of their way to make Bosmer "joke" characters. It's sort of hard to remember that Bosmer are actually badasses (i.e. cannibalism, The Great Hunt, the Camoran Usurper) when they're consistently given poor VAs and "silly" roles.

This thread sort of makes me want to go out and create a badass Bosmer character right now.

I always thought people were mostly just poking fun at the bosmer since they were kinda silly and obviously not a real life people. Always fun to make jokes about something like that.

Aye, someone gets it. What's the deal, Bethesda? Did a bosmer run away with your wife?

Well, you know what they say about being.. very close.

Sorry. Don't hurt me. Just couldn't help it.

^^ I thought I was the only one upset about this.

But yeah, they are acutally a pretty cool race. What I think it is.. is that to people that play the game in general, and who aren't too in-depth with the lore, only remember the annoying bosmer.

This is probably the case. To the uninitiated, Bosmer are just the annoying little [censored] who keep losing their magical ring.

Their Lore is kinda cool, but they seem to be the clowns of Nirn. Sometimes I just want to squish them with an anvil or something (preferrably Anvil).

But, although I find them annoying, I hope that Beth makes them cooler for TES:V.

Ya, but they seem kinda suited to do silly things and loose magic rings.

Why? Because they're short?

They'll just transform into a 10-foot-tall beast and rip our heads off.

No, maybe I just have that conception because I am used to them doing facetious things.

Bosmer, are kind of annoying when they are not the character you make.

But you all forgot the Bosmer who fell out of the sky.

I'll give you a hint, it happens just outside of Seyda Neen.

I remember him, and I got a pretty good weapon :)

And they are only annoying because of the way Bethesda manifests them.
