Whats with all the hate on Argonians, they are my favorite race but everyone else I know hates them and says they svck?

I've used them since Morrowind and I want to know if I've been making a bad choice this entire time, one thing is for sure tho, they're abilities are much more handy in Morrowind.
This is my first time here, and I gotta admit you guys are very mature and intelligent, hopefully you can give my your opinions and insight on this matter.

Because a LOT of people are really angry that the argonians took over Morrowind and kicked out the dunmer. Dunmer fans are almost as bad as the Chicago Cubs fans.

For me, they have been my favorite race since I got my first Elder Scrolls game. The EQ Iksar has something to do with it.

Are you kidding? Argonians are, for some reason, one of the most favorited races of all on the forums. I don't even know why, but they're right up there with Dunmer.

Any "hate" for them recently is probably due to the fact that they wiped out the Dunmer and took over Morrowind, so all the Dunmer fans are upset about it.

Also, probably not the best forum for this. Nothing to do with Skyrim.

I don't understand why anyone would be upset about what happened to Morrowind. It's bad for the more innocent people but as for the former slavers and slaver apologists? They had it coming.

This is...unsettling? You need someone else to tell you if your preferences are right? There is no such thing as "bad choice". You like Argonians, you make Argonian characters. What others think shouldn't matter. In the race polls I noticed there is a lot of love for Argonians. I for one love Argonians and my first Oblivion character was Argonian. My first character in Skyrm will be Argonian. I love their looks, their racials, their homeland as depicted in books. I [censored] love these guys, and I never question my preferences! Once Argonian, always Argonian

They really did have it coming. For some reason, a lot of people played Morrowind without getting the impression that the Dunmer were almost all a bunch of racist xenophobes, or else they just didn't mind. The Dunmeri people are probably the most morally deplorable in all of Tamriel. Their physical appearance even reflects that, as does their fate.

I've never seen argonian hate... well 'cept for the no shoes no helms stuff...

I think they're awesome, they're a lot like Iksar.

They steal babies and leave their feculents EVERYWHERE.

I personally think its just through immersion of their own TES characters. Like me for example; although I respect the argonians and do think they are a great and unique race, through my character who is a dunmer I dislike them, and will probably dislike them more in Skyrim as they will have a bit more of a swagger after the events since oblivion.
So i think people just get caught up in the immersion of it all and post from their character's point of view.

argonians are my least favorite. their accent is what makes me dislike them, they wanna sound like a snake when speaking >.<

just wondering, has anyone seen the kajhit in oblivion (in one of the cities) where this guy said he was an argonian??? idk if it was a bug or w/e but this khajit was telling me he was an argonian? maybe he was high??? i've only seen him once! the next day i tried 2 find him but couldn't!

Khajiit are known for their delusions.

Like thinking that they are people, that they are invisible when they are clearly not and somehow frightening. I for one think they look tasty.

I don't know, High Elves would have to be right up there. They're actually extremely similar to the Dunmer in many ways.

Argonians are awesome. The haters are just unenlightened. But don't worry, someday we will enlighten EVERYONE ... just like we did the Dunmer.

Yeah, but the Dunmer were just Aldmer who turned away from the traditional teachings to worship the Daedra. So it was like the Altmer AND Daedra worshipers. Dreadful. I think they might have been the only race to dominantly worship Daedra as the primary gods. All others worship(ed) various Aedra, Lorkhan, or cultural heroes. Of course, eventually the Tribunal came along and changed some of that, but still, most of the general beliefs remained the same, as Mephala, Boethia, and Azura were still revered. If only the Dunmer really followed the teachings of Vivec.

The Altmer are definitely quite obnoxious in their own right though. Perhaps worse in some ways.


Also, I'd like to ask the exact opposite of the OP, why do you guys like Argonians so much? They're my least favorite race (which isn't saying much, I still really like them!) and I can't get into playing one at all. I barely understand how the Argonian's think, I couldn't possibly roleplay as one. Plus, it's a lizard-person. They don't look like me, talk like me, or even think like me, how could I relate to them? I could maybe play as a Khajiit at this point, because I've learned a bunch about their culture and general mindset. With some effort, I could get behind it. With Argonians, we know so little, I would hardly know where to begin.

The only thing that sets me against Argonians is their racism towards me when I'm not one. "Hmm... Fresh Game." "The prey approaches." I dunno; do they react that way as a response to racism perpetrated towards them, or do they really see me as a hunk of meat to be roasted on a spit?

Otherwise, I have no problem with them. In fact, I oftentimes find that female Argonian NPCs are some of the most conscientous folks you will come across.

I have to agree with the folks that harbor disdain for the Altmer and Dunmer. I put a heck of a lot of time into Morrowind, but never really got that far with anything, because I just had no sympathy, NONE, for the indigenous inhabitants of Vvardenfell. I wanted nothing to do with their houses, their politics, their... anything. They were a deplorable bunch of colloquial, xenophobic ethnocentrists. In the end, I just hated being there in the first place. Sadly, it's so bad for me that I really don't wish to play the game any more.

Altmer? Geez. Every time I see one, I have in the back of my mind that they want most everyone else to non-exist, and would verily have the world Eaten in order to achieve that. They're the very worst.

I would happily play as an Argonian, if my (admittedly mild) roleplay requirements made one the best choice. It's the elves that I have the most trouble with.

Well, when one race is racist, it tends to go the other way as well, because they are intentionally seperating their cultures out of the belief that theirs is superior. You think you're better than me? Well, I think that's a stupid way to think, therefore I am better than you because I don't have that attitude!

My best character in Oblivion is Argonian and i respect all of the races i do hate it where racism is a factor in this game as well and people like to choose sides, Haters. :flamethrower:

I've disliked them since Infernal City. But I don't hate them. I hate the Altmer much more, just because they have a tendency to be rude.

Huh. I've never thought of that as rascism. I always just viewed it as hunting being a part of their culture to the extent that its always on their mind. I doubt most Argonians actively want to hunt people of other races unless they were harmed by those people.

Agreed. Those phrases are used at a Neutral disposition.

Well,I grew a disliking after hearing they conquered Morrowind.

Still,I cannot say I hate Argonians.I'd judge them with their own personality,as I do in real life too.

They were though. My Nerevarine was a Dunmer and no one liked me because I was an outlander.
