seems to me a bunch of people describing a gameplay video isnt a particularly great way to sell a game
i understand it creates a certain buzz or whatever, but they could have been shown oblivion and described the exact same thing
"a creature just, like, comes over a hill and todd totally kills it with a sword, then he runs into a cave. it was like, wow."

i figure our own wow-ing at this point is more important than some magazine guy's wow

it seems that bethesda wants an article in every single gaming mag before they show us a proper video
but it seems a little redundant because i have a sneaking suspicion that when they do show a gameplay video itll be the exact video we've already heard described today

i was just watching a rage gameplay video and an article really wouldnt have been worth reading
i need to see it happening

You're apparently not a marketing expert if you can't see the genius of what they are doing right now. They have us hooked. And they damn well know it.
There is nothing that they could do that would make people not buy this game at this point. They have a handle on it, trust me. But whether or not you believe that is irrelevant, facts are facts, this game is going to sell, and they know it.

Like Shino says, it's all about marketing baby.

If they show us screens first, it builds mystique around the video, and makes us more satisfied when we see it. It also delays the video, which leaves a shorts gap between this video and the next info they released, making us overall more pleased and willing to stick around. They are doing the marketing wise thing.

Because they are still working on the game and some of the people on these forums(or any forum really) go crazy over the smallest details things(see veiny arm thread), which may change before release. They will show a gameplay video when they are ready, probably e3.

The most powerful tool in marketing is make someone want what they can't have so they want it more. They passed marketing 101 with flying colors. This is Cartman Land all over again.

The video they showed to the journalists was an hour long live action demo. They can't show us that much any way.

Game still not finished,and as such if we the comunnity would get his hands on that preview right now,we wouldnt see the amazing game Skyrim is preparing to be,we would only find the ridiculous little tiny flaws everyone complains in here about and then instead of the mess that was this monday with complaints here the TES forums would go down with all the bickering about the video missing every possible combination of races/genders,armors/weapons,all the crafts,guilds,shouts,weapon magical effects,not having Crysis graphics....

hype can also disappoint- high expectations are dangerous
i think more often than not, building something up too much leads to disappointment

all im asking for is a game as good as their past games
the fact is, this game isnt much different than those, so i figure the best way to show the differences is with video
edit: theyve already sold me though, so im not particularly important


also i know theyre doing the right thing, this is mostly me complaining because i want to see it for myself
but i do believe showing the video wouldve been as good or better advertising than anything ive read today

Exactly. Not only is Bethesda toying with you on a marketing level, they are owning you psychologically. They know what you want. They'll seep information through the cracks every few months/weeks, but no. They wont give you what you want. Not until you've spent every last free hour you have on these forums begging for it. Then, maybe a gameplay video.
Bethesda understands how their fan-base works. Which is why we are all here.
