Why not take FO to other countries?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 7:20 am

How many US military bases are there world wide? I know that there is a huge US military base here in Australia, as I am sure that there are many others all over the world. After the fall many may well loose contact with one another, but computer records will still list them. A good storyline concept could be that various tech may be required from different bases for a project or experament or just a desire for reunification. The possabilties are endless and shouldn't be limited by which FO faction is here and nowhere else. Give me a half baked reason why it won't work and I'll shoot it down with logic and imagination. The Fallout series of games have been played world wide. So why not take it world wide?

This is going to get way out of hand.

I can give you very good reasons.

1) Canon wise America no longer had military bases around the world. America became extreme isolationists. The European Union fell apart, the United Nations fell apart. The world ran out of resources. America no longer had allies to protect or natural resources to protect. America was also fighting three wars at the sametime so every avalable military personal would be dedicated to them. The first War is the Sino-American War and second and third are the taking over of Canada and Mexico. America told the world to screw off and the world said the same back to America.

2) America would not have been selling or giving tech like Power Armour to other nations. Power Armour, Robots, Vault (as we know them), Laser weapons were all American only.

3) Other countries besides Canada and Mexico wouldn't have the American 1950s feel or culture. Again they wouldn't have the tech as well.

4) There is already so much of America left to see.

5) Going to another none English speaking country and have all the people speaking english would be stupid

6) No American factions would be seen or mentioned in a game outside North America. If they are it would be seriously stupid.

7) There would be no super mutants, and depending where the game is say Australia, there would also be no Deathclaws or mole rats.

8) Bethesda has already said they would not take Fallout outside of America. Keep in mind Canada was apart of America so maybe Canada in a future game.

Number 3 is the most important feel.

For example, China wouldn't have the same 50s vibe as America.

Besides, would it feel stupid hearing the poor English translated Chinese voices? Like how the commie soldiers in tranquollity lane sounded, stupid.

I have to agree with Styles on this..

Canada and Mexico are about as far as I can see the Fallout universe expanding, and even that's kinda stretching it a bit.

All of what Styles said, and because all of the Lore behind Fallout games is centered around America. There's mention of the European Union (European Commonwealth in the FO Universe,) but everything is centered around what happened in America, leading up to the Great War.

I just want to add before a certain one that is obsessed with the idea of taking Fallout to Europe comes on here (and we all know he will) and picks through my post goes on about how everything I said is wrong blah blah blah blah. I just want to say that I am very tired of having this debate. Everything I said in my other post is 100% right.

Now don't get me wrong, I am not saying Fallout shouldn't be outside of America (North America). I am simply saying it would be a very different game from what we already know. It would be a spin-off series set in the Fallout Universe (with the same timeline) but it would be almost unrecognizable from the Fallout games set in America. I wouldn't even want it to be called Fallout. I am not against such a series, its just I want Fallout to focus on America alot more before it takes such a dramtic jump to another part of the world which would change the series completely.

I doubt an American game company could do another country justice. If they tried they would get things wrong or just be a bad interpretation of it.

Though a spinoff made by people from the setting or someone who has actually lived there for quite some time and knows their culture would be a different story.

Yep. Number 3.

The original developers and the new guys have all stated this. Fallout exists on the backbone of Americana. 'Tis the whole point.
