Why numbers of creatures goes down with every next tes game?

Land Dreugh

Skyrim on multiple disks wouldn't work very well. There's too much re-use of assets, meaning they'd have to be included on each disk. Not to mention where would you divide it up? Exterior world and interiors? Every time you walk in or out of a city you have to switch disks? No, multiple disks wouldn't be practical for Skyrim.

Lol, the games saved to a storage device would mean no need to swap discs. The games install on 360 is less than 4gb. Its clear your perception is still stuck thinking that we have to play off the disc at all times. We can easily install games to HDD's or memory sticks. I have other games on 360 with bigger installs, and double discs. Hell Forza 3 is two discs and tells you to install disc 1 & 2 when to fire it up the first time.

You may think It has less creatures because a lot of them are actually "animals", but I made the count and that's what I got (I counted things like Scamp ad stunted scamp as only one, for instance).

According to UESP:

Morrowind list:
Spoiler
1 Ascended Sleeper
2 Ash Ghoul
3 Ash Slave
4 Ash Vampire
5 Ash Zombie
6 Corprus Stalker
7 Lame Corprus
8 Alit
9 Cliff Racer
10 Dreugh
11 Guar
12 Kagouti
13 Mudcrab
14 Netch
15 Nix-Hound
16 Rat
17 Shalk
18 Slaughterfish
19 Flame Atronach
20 Frost Atronach
21Storm Atronach
22 Clannfear
23 Daedroth
24 Dremora
25 Golden Saint
26 Hunger
27 Ogrim
28 Scamp
29 Winged Twilight
30 Centurion Sphere
31 Centurion Spider
32 Steam Centurion
33 Kwama Forager
34 Kwama Queen
35 Kwama Warrior
36 Kwama Worker
37 Scrib
38 Ancestor Ghost
39 Bonelord
40 Bonewalker
41 Skeleton

Counting Kwama and similar creatures separatedly.

That's weird, all animal enemies I can remember in skyrim are bears, wolves, rats and sabre cats lol
yeah and mammoths too

Don't call the devs lazy. I'm sure there was MUCH more they wanted to put in but couldn't....because of the execs Evil Men In Suits, who ultimately decide what goes into the game and what gets left out because of their draconian deadline policies. Hopefully the guy who did Martigens Monster Mod for Oblivion is still gaming and awaiting the creation kit...

I made the count yesterday, special creatures (Vivec, Mehrunes Dagon) and humanoid (bandits, necromancers...) aside, Morrowind and Oblivion have 30 creature models, while Skyrim has 40 (I'm not counting twice for different recolors of mobs). I didn't count dragons either.

EDIT.: Also, I didn't include DLC or expansions.

Another complaint we can put to rest! :tops:

Ah ah ah....not just yet. Sure it has more creature models, but how many of them engage you in COMBAT?

I can tell you that I absolutely hate foxes. They serve no purpose but fantastical verisimilitude and their panting always puts me on alarm, thinking I'm getting flanked by wolves whose howls I didn't hear. So exclude the non-combative creatures and you suddenly have LESS than in previous titles ;)

Save for the fact that not every creature in Oblivion or Morrowind were hostile either.

Non aggresive stuff adds as much as aggresive, It makes the world feel more alive. Besides, to that matter, Skyrim would be the only choice, for creatures in previous TES games had a similar melee combat and no strategy whatsoever.

Final count is 42 for Morrowind, 32 for Oblivion and 46 for Skyrim, check my previous post.

Oh, not to mention these: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Passive_Creatures

Creatures like Udyrfrykte's

Those are already in the game: Udyrfrykte is just the Nordic name for "Troll".

And yet, not all Xbox 360s have hard-drives (Mine doesn't). Bethesda made a conscious choice to restrict the game to one disk so there's no need for hard-installs or disk-swapping.

Actually, there's a single one:

It's a frost troll, nonetheless.

The question was "number of creatures". Not "the number of creatures you like in the game" or "number of creatures that will try to kill you"

Why it went down? I have no freaking clue. If I worked with Bethesda I would know but to ask a forum full of members that don't work at Bethesda that question is odd. Anyways I would like more thank you.

I think too many is unrealistic. I mean, how many wolves do you expect to run into in the country in RL? How would anyone be able to work on their farm for all the monsters attacking them?

It's allright, I used to do that a lot. I made an ass out of myself too many times over something pointless that was already answerd by everyone.

Now if I make an ass of myself it's on my own damn terms!!

Skyrim may have more creatures but it is a lot more boring than the past two titles. You walk for hours here and nothing bloody happens.
And if you make the mistake of taking a follower, well you can just about kiss goodbye any combat at all.

Most of what you see are animals undead or bandits.

This is the main problem with Skyrim. It has a good number of creatures but who cares if they are only pooled from the same group 80% of the time...

If anybody else has noticed, the Better the graphics get in a game, the less content it ends up having.

Compare Dragon Age I to Dragon Age II
Morrowind to Oblivion to Skyrim.

Especially the PC/Console crossovers, because the current consoles came out in 2006/2007 and have non-upgradeable parts, they are 4 to 5 years behind PC
hardware now, so game developers are making the games "Look" good, but they have to sacrifice features in order to accommodate 4 to 5 year old hardware.

I.E. the better the graphics, the less NPC's/Creatures in the world, to balance out the processing.

Now, I'm not trying to blame consoles for this, I'm just pointing out, that the hardware in the consoles is now 4 to 5 years old and
far behind PC specs now.

Most games today are sold on their "WOW Factor" of Graphics, seeing that the consoles have aging hardware, if a game manufacturer goes for the Wow Factor of great graphics,
they are going to have to make sacrifices in other departments such as having less NPC's/Animals roaming the world at any given point,
because a ton of NPC's/Animals on the screen at the same time will bog down any CPU/GPU combination.
