Why do Older time players have such prejudice against FO4?

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 5:24 pm

I played FO3 round about 9 Hours and NV 30 Minutes. I have read about the RPG Problems and i think those People are right. Fallout 4 is for me a simply post-apocalyptic Gore-FPS with a few RPG Elements. Shooting here shooting there. The Story is linear and you just kill over kill over kill. Without the Settlement System this Game woudl be really bad. My Expectation on Fallout 4 was a bit higher. The Endings of Minutemen, BoS and Railroad are just copy/paste, and iam not talking about the ending Sequence. I talk about how they beat the Institute. They do all the same. To bad that the Institute cant beat themself so Bethesda could copy it a 4th Time. The only real Factions are for me the Institute and BoS but the Fight between those is ending to fast. Its sad that we see here less Love.

50-something - and I'm very happy with FO4.

Games I first played had less resolution than my avatar, so any game these days is graphical nirvana by comparison.

And life's too short to spend it grumbling about minutiae.

My Problem is it isnt a RPG at all. I have played enough Shooter in my Life and i didnt paid for the next one. Everyone says, even Bethesda, this is a RPG. This is a Fraud. Its like you pay for Pepsi but at the End you get Cola.

Like the Dialogwheel, why its in the Game there is no use for it.

Well, i refer to TES as Murder Hobo Adventures, and Bethesda's Fallout as Murder Hobo Adventures Post Apocalyptic, less confusion with the marketing names that way :teehee:
Though between Dollhouse for MHA5 and slumlord feature of MHAPA 2, it seems they're trying get rid of the "Hobo" part. However, in my opinion just "Murder Adventures" sounds wrong.

Yes, i do think i'm funny :teehee: Yes, i also know i'm not

Well, seeing that sailing ship, that had rockets, because reasons, take off was pretty cool. And playing the comic book hero.
...I'm pretty sure there were other quests too...

I don't think any older FO fan knocks the game for graphics. World looks pretty spectacular to me. It is the depth that is lacking, in a big major way.

In NV you didn't even have fight the BoS to get rid of them.

Im a die hard fallout fan,I have every Fallout game from pc to console and enjoy them all.

But I do love 1 and 2 the most.

If they remastered them for consoles it would be amazing.

I do miss the drop top view and turned based action.

100% agree with you!! That's why I love Fallout NV so much and also enjoyed playing FO 1 and 2, because my actions have real consequences. I fell in love with Beth games, when I first played Morrowind - a huge world to explore and also an surprisingly amazing story line. So, what happened to that? Their games become more beautiful and the worlds are awe-inspiring, but the meat of the game, the story, the quests are growing increasingly shallow.

Now, I enjoy the heck out of Fallout 4. I love the world, the combat and the exploration factor. I also have to applaud them of creating better companions this time around. And granted, I still have to finish the main quest (yes at lvl 61, I'm still not done lol - taking my time), so I'm not sure how my actions affect the world yet. However, in Skyrim, nothing ever changed. I could be the head of each faction and nobody recognized it.

Is it so hard to ask for a game with depth, where my actions affect an area, the people, AND to have a breathtakingly amazing world to explore?

It's obvious you haven't played the game. It's filled with quests that have multiple outcomes based on decisions you make. To name a few (without spoilers):

The Big Dig

Kid in a Fridge

Drumlin Diner

Even the main quest has multiple endings.

I have no idea why people say there are no choices in this game.

Maybe try playing the game before coming to the forums and posting things that are blatantly false.

This.

Even tho I'm only 31 I played games way older than Morrowind and to me people complaining loudest seem to be the younger ones, who think they've been around.

The Cabot House quest is my favourite so far with different endings.

Also an RPG qualifies itself over against a shooter by having different items you can put on and customize your character.

In a shooter you have only different guns and ammo.

I haven't played the first two because turn based games aren't really my thing. I've played FO3 and New Vegas for hundreds of hours each, and love them. I'm edging close to 300 hours in Fallout 4 now though, and it is by far my favorite of the series. In my opinion, it is an improvement in essentially every way over FO3 and NV. I'll probably go back and play the first two at some point just to get the rest of the story, but I doubt they'll have much replay value for me.

I think some people just don't like change. Fallout 4 differs in many ways from the previous ones. That's just how it works though. Fallout 1 and 2 are legendary games to many people, and when Fallout 3 came out they were upset because it "wasn't a real Fallout game" because of how much it differed. The same people complained about New Vegas for the same reasons, it "wasn't a real Fallout game" because of how much it differed from the first two. Now Fallout 4 is out and some people are complaining about how it "isn't a real Fallout game" because of how much it differs from Fallout 3 and New Vegas. And when Fallout 5 comes out, they'll probably complain about how it "isn't a real Fallout game" because of how much it differs from Fallout 4.

I don't let it get to me. Fallout 4 is one of the best games I've ever played, and I'm thoroughly enjoying every moment of it. I still haven't finished my first play through. I've got nearly 300 hours in and I'm at level 81. I'm edging dangerously close to the point of no return where I have to decide between the factions. I'm trying my hardest to juggle all four factions at one time, and it's getting difficult. I've got a couple of "point of no return" quests logged right now.

2 options (which are usually kill person A or person B.) is not much "choice". Especially when previous games gave you more than double that

Both Kid in a Fridge and Big Dig had an option to talk the way out of the situation I seem to remember. I make that three choices. Don't know about Drumlin, there was an incursion of Bloodbugs into the situation.

The main thing I liked a lot more in earlier Fallout games was diolog options based on SPECIAL and not random chance based on Charisma. And a lot more speech options that actually changed what happened in the game.

Played all the Fallout games, liked them all too, but it's become seriously watered down with this latest installment. Not only has the gameplay/RPG elements been so simplified that it doesn't feel like a RPG anymore, but a lot of the Fallout elements that really created the whole setting and atmosphere in the first place are gone. I guess it's hard to make a sequel to something amazing, kinda like Star Wars 1, 2 and 3 in comparison to 4, 5 and 6. Yeah, the effects are better, the visuals are better, the explosion are bigger and the machines are shinier and more detailed, but the acting is terrible and the storyline is written be a 5 year old.

There is literally NO challenge in playing FO4. I don't have to worry about solving mysterious and riddles or making moral choices that would affect people's view on my character. It's just a Disney shoot-em-up theme park at this point. Which is fun, and probably why people put a lot of hours in it, but it's got very little to do with Fallout.

But that's it. Compared to FO3 and NV that's nothing. I love Fallout 4 but it lack options imo.

drumlin had 3. The previous games still more than doubled the options.

In New Vegas there was this quest for the NCR to convince the Kings to stop harming NCR squatters in Freeside. There were 6 ways to do that quest off the top of my head.

1:use your 1 favor with the king if you already did that questline

2:kill pacer

3:kill pacer but pin it on someone else (van graffs)

4:go to Colonel Hsu and get him to send supplies to Freeside

5:go to Colonel Moore and have a squad of Troopers march into the King's base

6:kill the king yourself

This doesn't even count all the little conversation options that can also get the result

We don't ;) You will find as many with prejudice among new players. It's matter of personal taste. Bethesda managed to keep to the spirit of original Fallouts quit well while improve on the franchise. Which of course does not necessarily mean there is nothing to criticize.

Yep, there are multiple ways to go with that quest also. I have no idea why people are jumping on this "there are no options" bandwagon. I can only assume they just haven't tried other options.

I should point out I'm 46 (probably the oldest geek around here on this forum ) and I am gleefully loving FO 3 and FO 4 ! so much so, I bought myself a new PS4(only to play FO4) just cuz. my sons are leeched to the other console (also on FO4) & no sharetime for Pa :nope: B)

300 euros spend for a 45 euro game.....shows how much this old geezer loves the game !

ive got well over 150 hours into the game and can be considered an older player.

anyone who tells you they've gotten over at least 40 hours into this game and still playing, saying they hate it, is just lying.
