Not by a long shot, young man. I'll be 49 later this month. Also, there are a number of retired folks playing, though I can't remember if I've seen their posts here or the TES forums.

Wait, are you saying an informed opinion is better than unfounded rage??
Same here. I've been playing video games since original Doom and BGS has hit mt sweat spot just a little more with each game. everybody has different likes and dislikes and the games do diverge significantly. So O get some folks are disappointed. In many ways it IS like an elder scrolls game because that's their style and their style is a perfect fit for me. Again I understand disappointment,FONV was a huge disappointment to me but I just didn't play much. FO3 I played for years just like an Elder scrolls game. FO4 will also engage me for years with , for me, its almost infinite variety of playthroughs.
57 until January and loving FO4. Retired also. I still have some kids at home that eat into my playtime though.
oh geez just stop already with the W3 hype....The only thing redeeming on W3 is the story, Geralt is a very boring character overall. Besides the pretty graphics the world is as bland as hell.
The OP has some weird all for or all against bias. I played FO1, FO2, FOT, FO3, FO:NV and close to 200 hours through two play throughs of FO4. I enjoy them all but the BGS games have such a vastly different feel to them that they are almost a different series. The black humor is almost nonexistent unless you go out of your way and then its still mostly the player being a stand out sarcastic ass in an otherwise humorless world. quests almost always devolve into kill everything in the area too. SPECIAL stats barely affect how you interact with the world aside from supply lines, lock picking and hacking.
I love the upgrading systems, being able to set up a little economy to support adventuring, being able to build things in general. They were all good ideas. I do feel they could have been better polished for launch and they dont really do anything to keep the lineage of the games going.
So yeah, i dont hate the game, i think it is great fun. It is the only game in the genre out right now so i'll probably keep playing it for months more. but it is lacking in some areas that Fallout was previously amazing in. and, dear god, over a month since it was launched and still so many basic things that need patching and polishing...
Well, I won't get into the discussion which Fallout is best or whatnot. Since it rest entirely on personal opinions. Suffice to say, that my own personal opinion, having played all Fallout games, is that I find 4 lacking in the RPG department.
I just think, that perhaps Beth's relatively small size (compared to others) have finally caught up with them. I mean, FO4 is dense, and with the added, somewhat optional, SimBuilder'ish, I'd imagine, that those things have taken time. Something have to give within the timeframe they have set for themselves, and unfortunately as I see it, the deep RPG elements went to the chopping block.
I have a little over 200 hours in the game, and I enjoy the shooter and exploration part, but it is beginning to get "old" now. I simply can't feel invested in the world, the same way other titles in the series had me invested.
Well that's BGS for you, now run along you little scamp....
But yeah, like every FO game it has it's issues, what pisses me off is that as the game gets more attention we get these little trolls who never probably played a FO game and are bored and looking for the next big thing running in and blabbing W3 W3 W3 W3 W3 W3 W3 till they're blue in the face. Yes we know W3 is GOTY already, W3 in my opinion suffers from shining turd syndrome. Other then story and shiny graphics the games pretty hollow...
I'm pleased. I think F4 is the best of the 3D Fallout games so far. It's certainly an entertaiing shooter. I'm almost 70.
Wow !...and I thought I was the oldest here ....heh heh heh ....
Exactly this. I'm debating a second playthrough, but so far I just haven't seen any signs that a second playthrough would be any different from the first one. You're not presented with clear cut choices that defines your character and the route he takes through the wasteland. It all ends up the same regardless of what you do, making a replay somewhat redundant.
Yes on all counts.
My favourite game of all time is Diablo. Its an unplayable pixelated mess now and the mechanics are painful, but it was a fantastic experience at the time. Likewise with Morrowind, I spent years playing that game, but it got to the point I would could not create another character. I played a lot of games, including FO2, that never did much for me and I felt no urge to replay.
Basically Beth is a business and they need to keep their fan base happy and make money. These days that means releasing unfinished games and trying to please as many of their fan base as possible. Is FO 4 the best game Beth have ever made? Qualified yes. Its not perfect, they have made a mess of the RP aspect with the backstories of the PC and also with the dialogue system being rather clunky. For the rest is is actually pretty damn good. Morrowind was made at a time when hand placed loot and 390 quests seemed like a good idea. Its simply not possible any more because that is so time consuming, and time is money. The other thing was that only about 2% of people completed the main quest. Compare that to skyrim. 25% of the people who bought skyrim have reached level 50 and more than that have competed the MQ, that is a lot more happy customers who will buy their next game.
But, but.... change.... I am scared of it.... hold me.....
You know, say what you want about Bethesda, i don't like it but i usually bite my tongue or how YOU don't care for their games but you need to keep me out of your [censored] mouths.
I take exception to being called a dumb and lazy gamer just because i enjoy Bethesda's games more than any other in the industry.
I'm 40 years old, have been gaming for over 30 years and for ME, Bethesda's games are the ultimate gaming experience. Don't agree? That's fine but don't presume to tell me the games i love are made for the dumb and lazy.
I'm 50 something myself.
I had to learn as each game came out that changing something, even removing something, isn't necessarily bad. There were some 'bad' features in the prior games and certainly features that could have been done better. I've also had to get over thinking that 'More Complicated' meant better ... it doesn't. Things can be streamlined, simplified, and the game be better for it. Complexity for complexity's sake is not a good thing.
Did they go too far in FO4? Maybe on some things. I still hate the dialog wheel and am still getting 'surprise' responses to my choices. There's already a mod to fix this but I decided not to add any mods until the official mod kit comes out. The Settlements are a cool idea but need a lot of work. I hope that Bethesda doesn't expect modders to fix this for them. Not crazy about the limited number of base weapons. The weapon modding is cool and all but sometimes it's a little too much. I mean modding the handle of a pistol to give you +2 accuracy? What's the point of all of that. So many of the mods are really pointless and not worth bothering with. But I don't want to start on my many issues with FO4. I'll save that for another thread.
But I didn't like a lot of the changes made to Skyrim, but still have 1500+ hours in the game. I'm sure FO4 will end up being the same.
Goodness, everyone telling their age in here like it's a badge of honor. I'm too old to be telling my age so I'll just refrain from that part. One thing I do know however is that everything changes with time. We can either resist change or embrace it. We can walk away from it and ignore it or we can find what we like about the changes and join in with the new or stay behind and be seen as grumpy old folks who don't understand the new generations and what they enjoy. I'm one to embrace the new. Doesn't mean I don't like to go back and taste the old, but I try to roll with the changes in everything that comes my way.
And that's what I do with these games. I've enjoyed them all in their day but I embrace the new ones for what they are. They are made for new generations with new desires and new ideas or what they enjoy. So bring it on. Being old doesn't have to make us bitter and it doesn't have to make us throw insults at those who come after us. We so cleverly come up with terms like "casual players" and "dumbed down" and "those who don't like to read" to describe the new generations of games somehow waving our flags of "I'm old school", "I'm smarter", "I'm superior" when really we're just an old bunch of people who are resistive to change and stuck in the past. We make no points in doing that.
And it doesn't matter if we are talking about games or anything else, we like to walk around like we are superior humans when in fact, we get smarter every generation. So like it or leave it behind is what I say. This game is the next in a series. Yes, it's a different company than the originals and it's done differently but for those who enjoy it...let them enjoy it.
Ah well, that's my story for the day. Now I must move this to the series section because it's comparing the series and not really about just this game.
I hate to say it, it's just how games/gamers are these days. I've played all platforms even new consoles and I will go there. Majority of console players don't have a huge attention span (at least the ones I know) and just bounce from game to game to get there fix. It's all about quick turn around on franchises these days. At the corporate level if they don't dumb down *cough* I mean streamline for consoles someone is getting fired fast. Praise the modding community is what I'll leave off with, they always get things straight for the most part.
That's the thing some people here can't seem to comprehend...that we might have some issues with a game but still love it. For example, I am still disappointed they took climbing out of Morrowind, levitate out of Oblivion, and despise all of those vampire and dragon attacks on towns in Skyrim. Horses are clumsy, escort NPCs get into naked fist fights with things 100 levels higher than them, quest journals are inadequate due to fast travel, dark brotherhood are teenage psychopaths rather than professionals (Morag Tong ftw), not enough questlines for good-aligned characters, etc. etc. Yet, I love all of the games and still play them as the good things still vastly outweigh the bad. Yet, I could choose to focus on any of these things above and make pages of rants about any of them, but why would I want to allow minor issues to destroy my enjoyment of the game when I could instead focus on everything that makes them good?
There are some things I don't like or feel could use some improvement in Fallout 4, but they are minor compared to the hours of fun I am having while playing.
It always seems to be the same people responding to these things, and they always seem to say pretty much the same things. In my experience, they are 85% wrong and I suspect they came into the game with a preconceived notion or two. You just cannot please some people.
The game has some deficiencies, even some serious flaws as it stands right now. But the Mona Lisa has flaws too. So does every work of art ever made.
Comparing a work to previous or other contemporary works can be edifying. But only in so far as it is a method to judge any given work on its own merits.
over 40 here and still think FO4 is the best of the series, followed by FO3, FO1 and FO2 respectively. Gameplay mechanics have been progressively oversimplified, but I'm fine with it.
