Why is my one handed skill RED and 21 POINTS below actual?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 8:01 am

So, in the skills screen, my one-handed is listed at the bottom at 15 in bright red letters. It is actually 36... even says so when I select a perk to see if I qualify for it based on minimum requirement. So, something is making my one handed skill lower, but I have no idea and there is no indication of what that may be under the "active affects" section.

I like a mystery as much as the next guy, but this feels gameruiningly stupid to me. Seriously, no indication what is gimping my character? Can anyone help?

Regards,
HairTie

No jail time. Is one supposed to guess that one has a disease and just down a potion? Why would a disease only affect one skill. That would completely break the entire concept of the fantasy world that has been created?

I've had that happen a few times. If its sitting at 15, its a bug. Train at a trainer for one point or reload from a previous save.

Should be under active effects but i think there may be a bug that sometimes makes diseases not show up.

Jailtime doesn't decrease your skills, I thought, just removes your progress to the next skill up.

It's probably disease. Go to the magic window and scroll down to the bottom, should say "active effects". You can see there if you are diseased or not (only way to tell, from what I've found)

You have Rockjoint. Contracted from a wolf. Congrats, you're now a gimp with a sword.

Or a trap.

You can get it from traps too.

Still, use a cure disease potion, spell, or shrine.

A vigilant of Stendarr will also cure you, provided you do not kill them on sight, and actually talk to them.

Just to close this out, cure disease did not work and there was no indication of disease under my "active effects" tab within magic. The issue went away after my one handed skill increased. The poster above who said it is a bug appears to be have been correct. Fairly frustrating, but at least now I know.

Had this happen to me. No active effects listed and never been to jail. Did some research and found its a bug, so I did what everyone told me to do, increase the skill in one handed. Worked like a charm, back up to 80.

Go to your main menu. Look under the Help section. it is why it is included in the game. You can also find that sort of information in you user manual. That is why they make them...

hahaha, contracting a disease that targets specific skills breaks the entire concept of fantasy worlds? what in God's name are you smoking.

I wouldn't say that it breaks entire concepts or whatnot, but it is rather odd. You get a disease and suddenly you can't swing a sword with one hand as well? But swinging it with two hands is ok? Then again, seeing as how they removed attributes, what other option was there for diseases?

Same thing happened to me, only it was about 60 points and it was Archery. I was down from the 70s somewhere to around 15 or 20. And I was a Wherewolf, by the way, thus 100% resistant to diseases. Once I increased the skill normally, though, it returned to the correct value. Seems like a bug to me.

yeah. i just think it was an insanely silly claim to make, considering it IS fantasy. maybe that one hand is weakened, meaning you hit less hard when holding onto a sword with just that hand, but your other good hand adds enough strength and stability to stay effective with two-handers :D.

It's a bug and I have no idea what causes it. Occasionally it effects a single one of the weapon skills (One-handed, Two-handed, Archery). Obviously it's not a disease, as it doesn't appear in the Active Effects and drinking a Cure Disease potion doesn't help. It always seems to disappear eventually.

There is nothing in the help menu about bugs. Save your pontificating for the toddler forums.

I get that it is fantasy, but even in a fantasy world there needs to be some semblance of consistency (or a declaration that nothing is consistent...which is okay too, but not a game that I'd buy).

In this case, the combination of issues I experienced, if by design, would be (in my opinion) [censored]:
  • Only one combat skill significantly reduced
  • Absolutely no indication of what it was... anywhere
  • No guidance on how to discover what the issue is
  • Expectation that one will just chug potions to see what makes it go away

Game design needs to balance fantasy world and its rules with helping the player understand/be aware of what is happening.

In this case its a bug, so we can stop sweatpumping this.

Broken or shattered limb. It's hard to get but I got it once. Just go to any shrine and the divine blessing should remove it. Alternatively sleeping also removes any unwanted effect except vampirism.
