Why do Orcs get an armor and no other race does?!

Post » Thu Sep 01, 2011 4:55 am

Dwalven armor is obvious dwalven armor made by the Dwemer and it (or its components) are found in Dwemer ruins scattered across Morrowind & Hammerfell), Elven armor to my knowledge Aylied armor and pieces were found in the many ruins scattered across Cyrodil.

The all other armors being constantly featured are just armors made from raw materials such as animal hide, steel, mithril, (adamantium ?), glass & ebony

So why does orcish armor keep coming back??!! Great if you are playing an orc (or Altmer and just pretend its the origin design) but what about some Khajiit, Argonian, Altmer, Dunmer, Nordic or Redguard armor?

1. Skyrim will be full of Nord armour.
2. Orcish armour is of superior quality.

yer I thought that but all the recent topics about the same armors seen in Oblivion re-surfacing has put doubt in my mind.

Lets hope so

TES IV had Elven armor, and both Glass and Ebony are associated with elves as well even if it isn't explicit in their name. TES III had both Imperial and Nordic Trollbone armor. So these games do commonly have armors associated with other races.

Orcs, like Dwarves, are renowned as smiths and I'd imagine that's why they have eponymous armors that have shown up in so many games.

Because there have been some excellent Orcish armoursmiths?
Any race can wear Orcish armour, I think I read somewhere that the higher up legion troops wore Orcish to battle.

In Elder Scrolls Orcs are the best blacksmiths (as opposed to Dwarves of generic fantasy) ergo meaning that Orcish armour is some of the best you can find. In Morrowind there was Nordic armour and Imperial steel armour. Anyway, this time round apparently there will be a set of armour for each race so maybe your wishes will be answered.

I think Orc's got their own armor in earlier games because according to Lore Orcs are particularly skilled at crafting armor.

Orcish armor is widely renowned as being the best armor still manufactured, superior to all but Ebony and Daedric armors.

That's why.

The Dunmer made plenty of high quality armors of their own, mostly out of bones from Morrowind's native creatures. Some, like the armor used by the group 'Her Hands', probably has few equals.

No other race does? It's no called Dwalven it's Dwarven (Dwemer). elven armor should cover all of the elven races so you wouldn't need a Bosmer armor, Altmer armor, Dunmer armor. Nords, Imperials and Redguards are human.. so the raw material armors are consistent with whatever you could classify as a human armor. Bretons are half human half Altmer.. As for Khajiit and Argonian it wouldn't make sense to have beast armors unless they had beast legs.

Orcs are the best smiths in the games so makes sense they got some bad ass armor.

That.

The Orcs have a system of creating their own armor. If you read up about them, they are well-known for their black-smithing potential. None of the other races have made anything particularly unique.

This, there's lots of Dunmer armor in Morrowind, I hope to see some of those back in Skyrim! The Netch or Chitin armors would be great as a Dunmer armor in TESV. Also Nordic Trollbone would be a nice return, especially since the game is set in the Nordic province and trolls will be quite common, I think.

No, I beg to differ on this greatly. No where has it ever said glass or ebony is a Elven invented armor. Nords & Imperials seem more the warlords when it comes to armor manufacturer.

It is the Imperials with their East Empire Company that mine and control most the glass and ebony mining and distribution. Plus the Imperial dragon armor looks like it is made of Ebony. I imagine glass and ebony to be a TES modern armor material that came around since the time of the united Empire.

Khajiit I imagine to be more chainmail and leather based.
Elven designs tend to be superior as in it uses a lot of more natural parts carefully wound together (Like the Japanese with their Samurai armor made from bamboo as opposed to the Europeans with their smithing skills of plate metal).

In previous TES games name one Elven race which has high stats in smithing other than orcs (& we can assume Dwemer)?

Some of the best armors yet have been the Nord armors seen in Bloodmoon.

No... no they aren't.

Orcs are hands down the ABSOLUTE BEST armorsmiths in the gmaes. The orcs don't need glass and ebony to make effective armor: It says something about their crafting skill when they can make armor almost as good as Ebony out of nothing but iron.

Imperial Dragon Armor, despite being made from Ebony, was inferior to Orcish armor. Orc-crafted ebony armor would be far better than any ever seen before.

Who's the better shield-smith? The guy who can take a large chunk of rock, smelt it into iron, and work the iron into a well-tempered shield capable of withstanding blows that could shatter any other shield made from the same metal while also being easy to carry and maneuver with, or the guy who straps an indestructable rock to his arm?

The lore itself says that Orcs are known for their armor and weapon smithing. In TES III Orcs are the only race with a bonus (+10) to armorer, and in TES IV they have the highest (+10) skill bonus. Yes we have seen a large number of Nordic smiths, but then we've traveled to Nordic territory. Daggerfall did let you visit Orsinium but it was a dungeon as they hadn't joined the Empire yet and weren't playable. I suspect if a new game brought us there we'd see plenty of Orc master smiths.

Bretons are half human half Altmer.

Breton have a little elven blood in them, but they aren't half-Elves.

Fun fact, the orcish armor in Daggerfall was only beaten by daedric armor.

Pretty damn good if you ask me, considering orcs almost always have nothing to work with due to living a nomadic life, constantly facing the threat of extinction at the hands of bretons and redguards. It's also why they prefer to use axes; it's a tool and a weapon.

the lore also says that the Orcs copied their design (or at least the one in Morrowind) from High Elven (Altmer) armor design.

Why can't we see the Altmer armor that the Morrowind Orchish armor was copied from. The one in Morrowind looked great and kinda like Japanese Samurai armor. I'd love to make a samurai warrior style Altmer.

Because orcish armor surpassed and replaced it. Why settle for the Model T when you have today's market to choose from?

Why go for a Horse+Buggy when you can have an M1A2 Abrams?

Because the armor in Oblivion was a different design to the one in Morrowind. One was heavy and one was medium. The one in Morrowind looked Japanese and the one in Oblivion looked more like something Hunnic or Mongolian

They may look the same (or were supposed to), but orsimer armor uses different materials, is constructed differently, and is vastly superior to the altmer model.
