Why do people feel the need to murder adoring fans?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 11:53 am

As the title says, why do you think people always wanted to brutally kill the adoring fan, who did nothing wrong but worship the ground you walked on? What went through your mind as you knew you was going to kill him?

If there is another adoring fan in Skyrim, would you murder him? If you would then why?

I can't tell if your making fun of the other thread or not, but it still made me laugh.

I would kill him in the most brutal way possible, eat his spleen, and then offer up whatever's left to Molag Bal.

I killed him on dive rock. I got bored and left after trying to throw his suprisingly heavy body off of the cliff.

I know people killed him in cruelly inventive ways but my question is why? He was our greatest fan!

Yeah I never understood why people made a big deal about him. When I met him I simply said "no" when he wanted to follow me, and I never spoke to him again. Some people just like to beat a dead horse.

To answer your question. No I wouldn't murder him.

Adoring Fan is just a kinder, gentler word for stalker. Mark my words, his "worship" was more Ed Gein than Leave Britney Alone.

There's nothing wrong with an adoring fan, but if he's a 30 year old wood elf acting like an 8 year old, then there are some issues.

Same here. He′s not worth the trouble. Although, it seems that The Black Horse Courier recently dug into http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1241697-your-own-black-horse-courier-article/page__view__findpost__p__18837147...

I never killed the adoring fan. If he's too annoying, just send him back to the arena district.

My decrepit avatar never met the man. During his first incarnation he advanced to the penultimate position. But on learning the situation behind what would have been his ultimate confrontation he walked away and never looked back. This play-through he was too busy putting out major fires... tasks that kept him gainfully occupied until it made no sense for him to participate in the Arena.

I like to think that had they met my avatar would treat the 'fan' with all due respect.

If you ask maybe they′ll put it back into the Skyrim forum? They probably thought you were talking about Oblivion since no one yet knows if there′s gonna be a fan in Skyrim.

I agree. In my mind, the adoring fan is a very skillful enigma purposely placed in Oblivion by the Beth.. He is un-attractive, annoying and of very little use in assisting you with your goals. However, he is one of the few NPC's in the game that truly admires you for "you," and not what he can gain from a potential friendship. With the dearth of companions available in the game (especially those that actually like you), my characters normally welcome his friendship and company. Unfortunately, my first character did accidentally kill him. He died while exploring a cave with her, and then re-spawned when she was deep within the nether tunnels of Oblivion. She lovingly looked at him with a tear in her eye knowing that even her awesome skills could never get him out of there alive. She was right and he died "permanently" in that gate; in that game.

My second character is much more careful with him. She does cut his annoying speech off. He only manages to get a few words out when they talk.
1. By Azura,......... cut off.
2. Yes!,....... cut off.
3. Here?.... cut off.

He is only allowed to accompany her when she conducts business with vendors/guilds and on strolls to collect alchemy ingredients. She fervently protects him from wild life during any attacks on these expeditions. She got totally pissed with him when she spent time and money reverse pickpocketing zero weighted attire that was more visually appealing, and carefully enchanted with shield and reflect damage. He dissapeared (ran away) once after a bear attacked picking flowers, and returned with the expensive enchanted attire missing. Since then, he has to wait patiently for his grand champion in her Choral home or wizard's tower while she is vanquishing evil. But, she would never intentionally kill him. She would simply dismiss him first.

It seems to be part of quite few games to have one NPC which is attracting anger & supposed to annoy - there was Fargoth in "Morrowind" (and all those comments, threads, hints and last not least mods regarding him got - in a certain sense - more annoying after a while than he himself). There was Mud in "Gothic", who certainly was there to annoy. Well - in Gothic especially it was rather easy getting rid of him (after beating him several times, no need - but still the possibility - to kill him), and there especially it seemed to me as part of the story, as some "quest" without questmarker or diary entry - a possibility to actually roleplay - in a way that would make you THINK about how you would react in real life: feeling sorry for him? Beating him? Because some guy like that COULD be met in RL, too... Interesting mixture of harsh annoyance and pity, a true underdog found wanting...
With Fargoth it wasn′t so fleshed out (that′s not a strength of Bethesda- RPGs) - there I more had the impression that all the fuss about him was more some kind of group dynamics on the forums. - As if someone was starting that tradition which was then adapted quickly. For me personally, he didn′t stand out in any way, but if anything there was more hick-hack around him than around the adoring fan. The latter was easily to be recognized as some kind of successor of Fargoth - far more obvious to be recognized as the annoyance-char, though (which is not necessarily a good thing). I could easily imagine that this tradition is being continued in Skyrim (hopefully not with another drop in quality)
And no, I′m not killing neither the adoring fan nor (I guess) any successors in Skyrim (Fargoth never bothered me at all, anyway - IMO he was MADE to be "annoying" by the community). When I′ve finally started to slap Mud in "Gothic", I actually felt like I had failed the test... The adoring fan doesn′t get anywhere close to be worth such decision-making...

Yea, that is kinda weird. But truth is you'll get less attitude, and a more mature more discussion here.

I've only had one game get to the Adoring Fan part, that was like almost 3 years ago. My memory is foggy, but I don't think Renee Gade I ever killed Adoring Fan on purpose. Matter of fact, she was happy to have somebody along who carried a torch.

First, your title says nothing about Skyrim. Second, your initial question is this: "...why do you think people always wanted to brutally kill the adoring fan, who did nothing wrong but worship the ground you walked on? What went through your mind as you knew you was going to kill him?" This also has nothing to do with Skyrim.

Your post spends more time referring to Oblivion than it does to Skyrim. So it was moved to the Oblivion General forum.

He's just funny because you can do with him whatever you want to. He will follow you to any place, and you can have fun and stuff. You know what I mean... not that kind of fun.
