Why do people hate the Metro tunnels?

For me they're one of the best parts about the game. Nothing beats the atmosphere of going on a week long expedition through the tunnels. I just love the lonliness down there.. I feel like a lost soul clinging to the dusty remnants of a long dead civilisation. But the exploration is just awesome too... Bethesda could have easily made the tunnels a straight A-B affair, but we have various exits, junctions, alternate tunnels etc.. the place is like one giant labrynth. And the fact that you cant simply pop into a trader makes it a real fight for survival. There is something eerie about them, walking along a long empty tunnel with nothing but the utter silence around me. That's not even counting the surface level DC ruins with all the random battles you face, Im talking purely the underground parts, the atmosphere is unbeatable.

Just had to share my love of the Metro tunnels....

Once i figured out how to read the Subway Maps, then the subways became much easier to deal with. I imagine the real world subways are the same way, until you figure out the maps, it's just a big hole in the ground that you get lost in. I also think that making the player deal with the subways early in the game to find a place that is difficult to find when you know where it is works against subway acceptance.

Now, it's just the gargling ghouls that bug me. Not that I am afraid of them, it's the gargling. I would rather hear fingernails on a chalkboard (for those of you who know what a chalkboard is and what it sounds like)

The metro tunnels are kind of claustrophobic, compared to the big wide world aboveground.

I don't exactly hate them, but I avoid them when possible.

Was thinking the other day, wouldn't someone who grew up in a vault prefer being underground in the tunnels?

I can see why people might not like them, but personally I enjoy wandering through them.

I don't like them because of their linearity, they all look exactly the same, and because you must use them to get to some parts of DC. I really don't like any long tedious dungeon type areas in any game.

Lack of direction has always been my biggest problem. The Metro tunnels aren't truly connected, so this presents a bit of a problem when you're running north in one tunnel, then all of a sudden running west in another.

A couple of weekends ago, I mapped out every entrance to the tunnels, with compass directions, so I know if I'm going in a door, I should be facing "W" on the other side.

It's really helped me navigate.

Other than that, I don't mind them at all.

I find the rubble I can't climb in the DC area to be a bigger problem, since you know, my opposing thumb can hold a weapon but can't be used to climb rubble. :P
