Why do people have a Ninja complex about the light class?

Post » Fri Sep 03, 2010 7:34 am

Why do so many people have a misconception that because they're choosing the light body type they'll be able to instantly disapear in the dark or fly across the map at supersonic speed (yes i am exagerating). Lights are fast but they're not unnaturally faster than the other body types. Bethesda worked hard to balance all the builds. So sorry for those who think they'll be able to jump over and around heavy's and take them out with their smg's but it's not gonna happen, heavies have increased health so a clip of smg probably won't kill them, or you'll die first in the fiefight. You're either gonna try something like that and die or you'll try to "outrun" them by jumping over gaps and around corners and get shot A LOT by the heavy's LMG and die.
Yes I'm still gonna be a light but i know i'll get gunned down by heavy's and mediums

For the love of god its never going to die when people keep restarting the conversation every other day.

Edit you'll get gunned it a straight gun fight, hence don't. Fight smarter.

You should read the youtube comments for the Get Smart General Gameplay vid.
Some think they'll be lights with shotguns being ninjas and getting 1 shot 1 kills.

yeah so long as people keep on bringing it up it will continue, however there are people who do think this.
On the other side though, there are heavies who think that no one will ever be able to take them down.
A far as i can tell everyone just thinks the body type that they have already chosen will be the best, and thats a perfectly normal thing to think, but when you try to make others think like you do is when you run into problems.

You can't blame them for not having this much freedom of movement combined with good shooter mechanics combined in a game before. Which is why I will be playing a light operative not because I necessarily want to be a ninja but because this class and body type combination suits my talents the best. It's not as if I'm going to run directly into the line of fire, attempt kill everyone while dodging bullets and be on my way. No, I plan shying away from the heat of battle occasionally acting as a distraction and mostly just trying to be as much of a nuisance as possible.

Your thread is a pitiless and repeated topic that the newcomers never seem to drop.

Thank you for your concern, but it is not needed, and will most likely cause a flame war.

Snipers. Not the OHK demon beast snipers, but the really annoying half your health gone snipers.

Hit and run is key. I've done this before. Worry about yourself, not about others.

No offense but that comment represents everything thats wrong with the fps genre currently.

Operative or not, if you don't kill to protect or aid your teammates, then you are nothing more then a waste of space.

I have a feeling it's going to be like Sammy from Streets of Rage II (kid on roller skates). Fighting a Heavy is going to require all the ninja'ing possible.

On this forum I see far more posts asking why people think that than posts of people actually thinking that.

I plan on being a light soldier, and I plan on using the skills that I have developed over years of playing games with a "light mentatlity"; doesn't mean "ninja" but don't expect me to not ninja you just because "that's not what the light type is".

You do need to worry about others. I don't know why the Operative is seen as some lone wolf class. This is a team game and the Operative is still capable of doing what it needs to do within a team concept. Lone wolves will die off quickly. You weren't wrong about the hit and run strategy though. As previously stated - agreed :)

It's kind of like a Scout/Spy with a smattering of Hunter thrown in :D

That's not what I meant. I was saying that people like the OP shouldn't worry about how others plan to play.

I like using my knowledge of all the escape routes to bolt at the last second leaving my enemies disoriented and as they foolishly follow me I lead them into an ambush from my team.

Yeah, everybody knows Lights are NO Ninjas....

May I suggest a new topic:

Heavies ARE Ninjas!

Well I know that my light soldier wont be gunned down at all, my plan is to build him up as a grenadier - I'll get up real high like and support my team mates below by causing explosive terror on our foes, hopfully they'll panic and scatter making them easy targets for my sqaud >;3

Point im trying to make is as long as youve got a solid plan you can make a character work with ANY bodytype.
