Why do people not like blunt weapons

Post » Tue Jul 12, 2011 8:50 am

There has been a lot of threads and polls on what you will use in skyrim because we can dual wield and I have noticed that every time blunt weapons get the least amount of votes. I personally would way rather have a sword but I don't really have a reason, why do you guys like blades over blunt and if you like blunt more then why.

I was thinking about it and I have no idea why an axe is a blunt weapon. It as a blade attached to a handle..that is not a blunt. Blunt weapons like a war hammer basically crush bones and what not. An axe would chop through someone so I have no idea why it is considered a blunt weapon...It makes absolutly no sense to me. Can someone explain that to me.

I was hoping bethesda does a lot more for blunt weapons in Skyrim considering it is a more barbaric culture which is where axes and blunt weapons would fit most.. Do you Agree?

Mace is my first choice of weapon on any game if available. Then I use a dagger for backup. (Chance for this to shine is on Mount & blade)

Edit: My main reason I like maces is because internal bleeding is a lot more painful and deadly than external (Maces > Swords over time)
Also because swords are like the Call of Duty of medieval style games... So I use what isn't popular... Ironic..

I think its more to do with the way its handled, you don't stab someone with an axe.

I like blade weapons. Blunt style strike me (no pun intended) as... barbaric. The main reason I never used the hammers in oblivion is because they were huge and unrealistic. I did sometimes use the axes, though they are technically blades.

Dunno, I love blunt weapons myself. I like axes too.

Hell, I'd even vote for blunt weapons in question 1 if axes weren't incorrectly lumped in with them.

Some rubbish they cooked up while "streamlining" Oblivion.

I would call them "hafted" weapons and include halberds and such with them.

I always use blunt weapons. My favorite weapon to use is a huge 2handed warhammer where I just smash peoples' heads in. I can't wait to see what the kill sequences are for warhammers.

I refuse to vote. The first question doesn't give me the option of both. Some of us like to be versatile you know.;)

maces are pretty awesome... why chop off a head when u can make it explode? One weapon I have never seen in a game though that I really want to see is a morning star... those are sweet...

Amen to the morningstar bit. That or a flail would convince me to use blunt much more often.

"Blunt" weapons in general aren't really that popular. I can't remember for the life of me the last time I saw a blunt weapon used in a medieval setting.

To be honest, swords look cooler most of the time. Also, what fantasy-genre pop culture exists (which is limited) glorifies swords. All the badasses get swords with dagger backups. Only sidekicks get axes, and no one really uses hammers. There are exceptions, but this is the norm.

People just aren't really that interesting in Blunt weapons. Swords are featured in media much more than any other kind of medieval weapon, and as such, people have always had more exposure to bladed weapons than any other type. Also, long blades were always the best weapons in both Morrowind and Oblivion, being featured far more and having superior stats/being the best enchanted weapon. People have simply grown accustomed to long blades being the weapons which are featured predominantly in all forms of media.

Blunt weapons have their uses. "Theoretically" bladed weapons would be less effective against skeletons and hard bodied/stone solid monsters because there's nothing to "cut" off those creatures. It is in those situations where "smashing" makes more sense.

I don't like either weapon catagory, as I almost always play a mage, but when I played a warrior in Morrowind, I used Long Blade and Axe as my primary combat skills.

I am glad to see the 1-handed and 2-handed skills in Skyrim, because skill with a shortsword does not mean skill with a claymore.

I accidentally selected blade weapon at first, until I read the descriptions. Axe is a blunt weapon?! Lol, I guess you know my answers to the next questions from that. :D

I like bladed weapons more, but only because I think of axes as bladed weapons.

what is a morning star?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morning_star_(weapon)

Basically a mace with pointed ends, sometimes attached to a chain, which was attached to a pole, used to flail the weapon around and strike using the weapon's momentum for force.
