Why do people say the water is worse in Crysis 2?

Go see the gamespot comparison of C1 and C2.

Oh well, iPwn if you say Crysis didn't take advantage of ANY DX10 specific features, then you have not played it on VERY HIGH settings. Crysis has PER OBJECT MOTION BLUR, which is unsupported on DX9.

Also, Crysis 2 water doesn't seem any kind of a higher vertice amount water; the only change i've seen is that Crysis 2 water has the ripple propagation, and of course a little different shader.

Water textures were low res compared to crysis water, and did you see any puddles? they were pre-rendered...

just like crysis 1

There's no way that Crysis 2 screenie is on extreme. Is that even the PC version? I mean the game looks bad, but not that bad.

There is. The jpeg compression causes some distortion.

Doesnt even matter. Crysis 2 water looks like a cheap gooey blob, not like proper water. It lacks any kind of dynamics and you can anolyse the technical features of it all you want, it still looks fake. Maybe we will get some proper tesselation with the DX11 patch but as of now the water is just poorly done.

Same angle? I lack the skill to script the camera into an angle of specific amount of degrees.

Someone post a screenshot from a game you think showcases the best water you've ever seen in computer games.

The combination of lightning and water make it look at least equal for sure IMO and remember: DX9

interesting. A thread where the OP uses his brain. Cool.

You may as well mention that the water effects in Crysis 2 are actually vastly superior to Crysis 1 (un-modded). THERE'S ACTUALLY RIPPLES when you shoot, not drawn out animated circles.

The replies to this thread are depressing me. FFS comparing it to HL2? Sure this game isn't the best looking game out there, but it's way above average. HL2 water was far from impressive. Most UE3 games have better water than HL2. And you might wanna mention that was HL2 Lost Coats...an HDR Tech Demo..not even the actual HL2.

It could help it not look so globby and rigid which is one of my biggest complaints. Yes in the picture above the water looks nice but not amazing. Some of the water effects with lighting and interactivity are ok but also come off very rigid (ripples).

My gripe is not so much with the small puddles or the water picture above but with the moving water. The stream, waterfall and fountain water needs a lot of work. Some blur, mist and a few other things could really improve it.

In my opinion the water in C2 is about half way done. Another quarter complete and it would look like Crysis on Very High and another quarter complete and it would look better...like it should. I don't ever look at the water in C2 and think WOW that's freakin beautiful...I most of the time think...WTF??? Which is very dissapointing and I'm not confusing NYC water with tropical island water either.

Then be depressed. You asked a question. You got an overwhelming answer. The water in C2 svcks. C1 / Wars water is much better. Of course, pretty much anything is better in C1 / Wars. C2 is a total XBox console port after all.

Thats alot of crap you are spitting there. Crysis 2 looks gorgeous and besides of the water it looks ALOT better than Crysis 1/Warhead. The textures arent mashy and flat like they are in Crysis 1 and they pulled all that off on DX9. Imagine DX11 with its tesselation and now tell me Crysis 1 does stand a chance against Crysis 2.

To me they look like they have been slapped onto the objects. While Crysis 1 looked stunning, it looks terrible up close in my opinion. Maybe its just me but Crysis 2 looks alot more 3D, if you get what I mean.

Ehm yea, Crysis 2 is limited by console, CryENGINE 3 isn't limited by consoles.

If you don't get what i trying to tell you then you should try to learn kids how to play lego.
