Why do people seem to think skyrim will look bad on p.c?

I am not worrying about the graphics, but things like UI and proper porting to PC.

But as Deutchland said, PC can handle much greater graphics, but most multiplatform games graphics have to be held back to be supported on consoles, consequently developers doesn't focus on bringing wonderful graphics for us and they only stick to making it look good on consoles while not exceeding it's capabilities.

But honestly, I like this, it keeps me from upgrading my PC.

Also, please can a mod lock this, it's unnecessary to discuss this and it will result in flaming and console bashing.

I don't think it will look bad on PC. Actually, it will look amazing, plus with the texture replacers on it will look even better.

The general consensus is fear that it may be designed for consoles and then ported to PC, instead of the other way around. Hence the graphics won't be as high as possible on the PC.

Because seeing the compressed images printed onto magazines and then scanned make those certain people think Skyrim will be uglier than Orc.

The more important question is why do people think Skyrim looks bad when they have no evidence of such a thing. The pictures in GI are not to be taken as proof of how it looks. Any picture sized down looks significantly worse than the full resolution version. The pictures in GI are a lower resolution and thus don't look nearly as good as it would at full resolution which we will say is 1280x 1060 or something of the like. You have to wait until they show digital screenies at full resolution before you can make that decision, I don't care who you are and what kind of "eye" you have for comparison of a low-resolution picture to a high resolution picture of another game.

Having a good computer or graphic card does not improve the game graphics. It only runs smoother.

It's like saying that if I play a PS1 game on the PS3 it will have PS3 graphics.

The game has to support it to be able to use DX11's graphical capabilities.

And, that's a good idea. Imah tweet Nick and Pete. :)

I hate to use it as an example but... Take Crysis for example. Arguably has The most Beautifully Crafted Graphics known to the PC world. Nobody Really cared about the main quest, because the game was so beautiful. Yes it Crippled PC's, Yes it still does cripple PC's (Mine Can't even load the Main menu :sadvaultboy: ) But current consoles Will NEVER Be able to Render such Beauty. I am Not Graphics [Censored] . But my golly , if a hot chick wants to date me I'm all for the challenge. ( Chick being Graphics and Challenge being building a computer to Render the Beauty) Of course Console players have nothing to worry as it will be optimized to play on there Mainstream fun boxes.

Because The newer ES games are custom tailored for Xbox. The simple truth is that Bethesda goes where the money smells the strongest, and right now that's with the 360.

well the main reason bethesda's graphics are kinda low, it is because they want to be sure everyone will be able to play it, Oblivion only required a geforce 4500 I believe, so it probably will not have the best graphics but it is gonna be a whole lot better than Oblivion, but it wont be the best out there, also there is gonna be some mods for graphics

The same reason people would complain if Oblivion on 360 had looked like Morrowind. The graphics bar is set so far ahead of consoles on PC that its practically a generational leap. Something that looks good in the perspective of a console game looks like a 2005 game to PC users.
Do I think Skyrim will look bad on PC? I dont know. I havent seen the PC version. If it uses DX11, with tessellation, compute shader, has some 2011 level shader effects then it will look just fine and probably incredible. But if its some DX9 port then no it wont. I have faith in Bethesda though.

i am one of the biggest PC graphics snobs around. that being said, unless some new game footage shows up with really crappy graphics, im actually not to worried about the graphics. its a custom engine so they wont have to worry about gamebryos issues and i read somewhere that they had discussions with the ID developers about game engine design...........that right there is a big plus for me cause it means that maybe they took some of the technology or know how from the rage engine and used it in their own engine.

in my perfect world they would have used cryengine or dunia or something but as long as they are at least talking with the ID people im very hopeful that they took stuff to heart. im hoping that they do what reality pump did with 2 worlds and customize the engines for the various platforms.

Oblivion was one of the best out there when it came out and it supported much older hardware. Crysis even supports something as old as a 6800 and runs fine on it. Just because you have a low bottom line doesn't mean you cant have your max settings hitting a high mark.

also ES games take so long so it really isn't 2011 technology it may be like 2008 technology, because that is when the game started, though they could have predicted this when making it, but they really cant be too sure, I dont know how this stuff really works this is just my guess, though I do make money selling 3d models
