Why do Protectron(s) have personality options?

Post » Fri Feb 19, 2016 8:34 am

What's the point? Why when i activate Protectrons, would i ever choose anything other than default or law enforcement?

Each type of protectron has a different weapon. So if you are using it for ghouls you might pick firefighter and for supermutants you might pick police to get the optimal effect.

Also, one of the announced DLC's will be about robots. You will be able to build your own and give it a personality, so they needed to put the programming infrastructure into the base game.

Just adds a little backstory for me, the Pod they come in is universal so makes sense to be able to choose any personality as in theory they may have any Protectron in there.

No Fisto though, I miss Fisto.

I just thought it was a sort of driver update so that if there's a nonstandard Protectron in the pod, it can actually make use of the nonstandard weaponry.

Police officer may actually be the worst choice, as he will turn on you for shooting anything

Subway Stewart will shoot anything that can't produce a subway token

Construction worker will complain about not getting a union break

I always thought you had to match the personality with the type of Protectron in the Pod?

Most often it is default, but in Subways, I pick Subway Steward etc.

I think the Construction Protectron is my favourite though.

Firefighter Protectron is by far the strongest. I saw it almost take out a deathclaw.

I like the medical Protectron vs Ferals... hilarious.

He asks them if they're feeling ok, before annihilating them. :P

Yeah, they all come with different weapons. Some of which are ridiculously deadly. I remember hacking one to be a temporary companion, the construction worker one. He was pinning the heads of Super Mutants against the walls, I'll say that much.

It also adds fleshing to the back story of how and why they were made differently to serve humanity in different ways though.

One thing you didn't point out though, is that the descriptions of some of the police alternative models only "might' be sporting a device usable as a weapon. For instance the paramedic ones usually can use shock as a weapon, but only once of the 3 times I deployed one as a construction worker did he have a nail gun to use, and the description for that model warns you of that.

For that reason I only deploy the police models, but after having leveled fairly high, I don't bother with them anymore. They are way too slow to get to the enemies, and when you have powerful weapons and armor, they're not needed anyway. Hell, I really don't even have powerful armor. I don't usually wear power armor, and have yet to use ballistic weave on any of the clothes I wear under my light armor.

Seems to happen every time they see me shoot, even if I'm helping said bot. It'll mutter something like "fugitive sighted" then open fire on me

Yeah I tend to get shot by protectrons quite regularly too - like it malfunctions and attacks me even though, often, I don't have my gun out or anything.

Shoddy tech I guess but it makes things more lively!

Well, choose certain perks and you can hack them. Useful bots I collect.

I always choose either Subway Stewart or Construction worker... They are just more fun!

There doesn't seem to be much difference between there fighting ability...

Never mind the personalities. I don't use them in the first place. I activate them, and shoot them for their loot :D

Never got attacked by a utility protectron for not wearing a hard hat so that's kinda weird I guess?

If you have these railway coins, you don't need to wear hard hat.

Nice little easter egg if you activate the construction mode while wearing a hardhat. Not sure if it works with any of the other modes and attire.
